General information about holidays in c. Kyndyg

Kyndyg is a small village in the south of Abkhazia in the Ochamchira district, located 150 kilometers from the checkpoint on the border in the Russian Federation further beyond Sukhum, and 37 kilometers from the capital Sukhum itself (Kyndyg on the map of Abkhazia). This is one of the most remote resorts in Abkhazia, further behind it is only Ochamchira.

Kyndig is not a developed resort and a popular place to relax. However, some experienced and knowledgeable travelers specially go to Kyndig, and for good reason. The fact is that in c. Kyndig there are two equipped complexes of paid hot springs at once, and on the way to Kyndig there is another place with free hot springs. Also in the village there is a very good unequipped pebble beach. So if you want to relax in a peaceful rural setting, visit hot springs and at the same time have the opportunity to swim in the sea and sunbathe on a deserted beach, then welcome to Kyndig.

However, it is worth knowing about the disadvantages of rest in c. Kyndig. First of all, you need to understand that this is a village, and the infrastructure here is appropriate: there are no supermarkets and markets, but only a few rural shops, there is no entertainment, there is no sale of excursions. So you will have to organize all your cultural leisure and entertainment yourself, and for this it is best to come here by your own transport. And in general, getting to Kyndig is not so easy, so going here by car will be the right decision for this reason as well.

Another problem is the lack of comfortable tourist accommodation. There are only a few small private hotels and guest houses here, but mostly accommodation is offered in the private sector by local residents. Moreover, it is difficult to find and book accommodation online here, there are almost no options in booking systems, so you will probably have to come and look for accommodation on the spot or search for it through bulletin boards and chat rooms, but you need to be careful with this.

But if you prefer to rest in a tent, then in c. Kyndig you can camp right next to the beach, there are several very convenient places. One of them is the territory of an abandoned recreation center or camping "Fir" in the eastern part of the village, the entrance along Beregovaya Street. We spent the night in this place, it was very quiet and peaceful there, going down to the beach by a small staircase. In general, a wonderful place for lovers of tent recreation. But just don't leave any garbage behind and don't party.

How to get to Kyndig

Kyndig is located far from the checkpoint on the border with the Russian Federation and it is one of the farthest resorts, beyond it only Ochamchira. The village is small, there is no own bus station and there are no trains coming here, so it's not easy to get there. We will tell you about all the ways to get to Kyndig in more detail:

  The airport in Abkhazia does not work, although there are talks about its launch by the end of 2024. In the meantime, you can fly here only through Adler airport (Sochi).

  Upon arrival from Sochi airport to Kyndig, you can take a taxi directly, which will cost about 7000 rubles. Moreover, it is not a fact that you will be able to find a taxi driver on the spot who is ready to go here, so it is better to take care of ordering a taxi or transfer in advance. You can book a transfer in advance on the websites kiwitaxi.ru or intui.travel, then the driver He will meet you at the airport and take you to your destination. Or try to order a car, for example, through the app or on the website of local taxis A-taxi or Garuda. The Yandex.Money app also works, but only in one direction from the Russian Federation to Abkhazia.

  You can also leave the airport for Kyndig by buses with a group transfer. This is a convenient and relatively inexpensive way, although it is suitable primarily for single travelers. And if you are traveling with your family or with friends in a group of at least 3 people, it will be cheaper and more convenient to take a taxi. This group transfer is organized by the carrier and the taxi company Garuda. Minibuses with air conditioning or medium buses run along the route (depending on the workload). The journey takes longer than 4 hours, but it may be longer if there is a queue at the border. The cost 2400 rubles / person, children under 2 years old are free of charge. Minibuses run every hour, but you need to book a transfer in advance on the company's website https://abhaztaxi.ru/transfer/.

  If you can't afford a taxi or a transfer, then you can get there much cheaper, but with transfers. First, you need to get from the airport to the Psou checkpoint (you can take a Yandex taxi, Maxim or other applications, the cost is about 600 USD), or by city bus No. 558. You cross the border at the checkpoint on your own on foot, and then on the side of Abkhazia again take a taxi to Ochamchira or at the local bus station take a minibus to Gal (Gali) or Ochamchira. The cost is about 500 rubles, it takes 3-4 hours to drive. Minibuses do not come directly to Kyndig, but you can get off at the turn and walk to the hotel on foot, walk to the beach in the village about one and a half kilometers.

  If you do not wait for a minibus to Ochamchira or Gala, then take a minibus to Sukhum, they go more often. Cost about 400 rubles, drive 3 hours. In Sukhum, without changing the bus station, transfer to the bus to Ochamchira. This bus from Sukhum to Ochamchira runs from 11 to 18 o'clock approximately every hour, the cost is about 150 rubles. It also needs to get off on the main highway on the outskirts of the village, then on foot or hitchhiking.

  Although there is a railway and a railway station in c. Kyndig, you can't get here by train. But in high season you can take the train to Sukhum from Moscow and St. Petersburg.

  Trains arrive at the railway station in the center of Sukhum, and there is a bus station right there, from where you can immediately go to Kyndig by bus, which goes to Ochamchira.

  If there are no trains from your city to Sukhum, then you can go to the railway station in Adler, and from there to the Psou checkpoint and then get there, as we wrote above, with a transfer by taxi or a local minibus.

  

• By car

  A trip by private transport to Kyndig in our opinion is generally the most convenient option not only to get here, but also to relax here. After all, there is almost no urban and tourist infrastructure in the village, so it will be very difficult without your own transport.

Attractions in c. Kyndyg

There are practically no attractions and entertainment in the village of Kyndig except for a couple of places: hot springs and ruins of the ancient fortress of San Tommaso, we will tell you more about them below.

Excursions to c. Kyndig are not sold, at least, we have not met. So you have to go everywhere on your own on your own transport, or hire a car with a driver-guide here on the spot. During the day from here you can go and see the sights in Sukhum, Ochamchira, even in New Athos and Lake Ritsa. Well, the closest interesting places that are worth visiting from Kyndig are:

• Fortress of San Tommaso

  

  The ancient fortress of San Tommaso is located near the village of Kyndig in the southern part of Abkhazia. This is a little-known tourist place, it is visited only by the most connoisseurs of history and lovers of sights, and group excursions are not carried here. Meanwhile, this attraction is very interesting. It was built during the period when the Genoese came to these lands, and this is the period from the 13th to the 15th century.   🚶 How to get there: the fortress is located on the outskirts of the village of Kyndig on the Black Sea coast, 36 kilometers from Sukhum (fortress on the map). You can get to it by private car, or get to the village by minibus in the direction of Ochamchira from the main market of Sukhum.

• Hot spring in the village of Kyndyg

  

  The hot spring in the village of Kyndig is the most famous therapeutic thermal springs of Abkhazia. Hot chloride, calcium-sodium water with a temperature of more than 100 degrees and a strong smell of hydrogen sulfide (the smell of rotten eggs) breaks out to the surface, and then is distributed through a system of pipes to the pools, gradually cooling down in them. Also, the water falls from a height of about 10 meters with several powerful jets, standing under which you can get a massage with healing water. In addition to hot water, therapeutic mud comes to the surface here, which can also be used in wellness treatments. It is believed that for recovery it is necessary to visit the springs at least 10 times.

• New Kyndig hot spring

  

  Not far from the village of Kyndig, right next to the main road, there is another complex of hot springs. This is a new place, although it is equipped in exactly the same way as the most famous spring on the outskirts of the village. Here, hot healing water from underground is distributed through a pipe system to the pools, gradually cooling down in them. There are several pools with different temperatures, you can choose the most pleasant one for yourself. Also, the water falls from a height of about 10 meters with several powerful jets, standing under which you can get a massage with healing water. In addition to hot water, therapeutic mud comes to the surface here, which can also be used in wellness treatments. It is believed that for recovery it is necessary to visit the springs at least 10 times, so some tourists specially stop in the village of Kyndig to have access to the springs.
