General information about holidays in the village of Golden Coast

Gold Coast is a small resort village on the coast of Abkhazia, located between the towns of Pitsunda and Gudauta, 60 kilometers from the Psou checkpoint on the border with the Russian Federation (Golden Coast on the map of Abkhazia). However, as far as we know, officially the village of Golden Coast does not exist, and administratively this area and the beach is part of the village of Mgudzyrhua in the Gudauta district.

The Golden Coast was once a popular and developed Soviet resort with gorgeous beautiful sanatoriums with its own territory and developed infrastructure for a relaxing therapeutic and preventive rest. But all this is in the past, and today only the ruins of abandoned sanatoriums remain from the former luxury. Therefore, it is difficult to call the Gold Coast a fully developed resort now, because apart from several sanatoriums, hotels, the private sector and a couple of cafes there is nothing tourist here. If you decide to relax here, then you need to understand that all your rest will take place in a rustic setting with minimal infrastructure, there is not even a normal store here. The tourist infrastructure is also not developed. For example, when we got acquainted with this village, we couldn't even find a sale of excursions.

But the beach of the Gold Coast is very decent. It stretches for at least two kilometers, while it does not end on the outskirts of the village, and you can walk along the shore even further. There are very few vacationers here, even at the peak of the season. There are mostly pebbles on the shore, but if you go further along the shore towards Pitsunda, you can get to sandy beaches with yellow sand. The water is clean, but there is one peculiarity: its transparency strongly depends on the weather, because after the rains the rivers Mchishta and the Barn carry silt and clay into the sea. But usually it goes away in a day or two, and the water becomes clear and pleasant for swimming again.

There are very few accommodation options on the Golden Coast beach, only a few. Here is the famous boarding house "Golden Coast", several mini-hotels and private housing for rent, but it is not so easy to find and book accommodation online, there are almost no options in the booking systems. So if you want to relax here, you may have to come and look for accommodation on the spot, or search in advance through bulletin boards or acquaintances.

The tourist season in Gudauta district and on the Golden Coast beach runs from May to October, and the best time to visit is from July to August. How to get to the Gold Coast

The Golden Coast is located 60 kilometers from the border crossing on the border with the Russian Federation on the main highway of Abkhazia, along which the city can be reached in one and a half to two hours (Golden Coast on the map of Abkhazia). Considering that there is no settlement of the Golden Coast as such, transport does not go here either, there is no bus station or bus stop here. However, the Sukhumi Highway, the main highway of Abkhazia, passes near the village, along which all intercity buses and minibuses pass from the border. And just 10 kilometers away in Gudauta there is a railway station where you can get by train and from there to the village by taxi or again by passing buses or minibuses. • By plane

  

  There is no operating airport in Abkhazia yet, so you can only get there by plane through the nearest Adler airport (airport on the map).   How to get from the airport to the Gold Coast

  To get from the airport to the Gold Coast, you first need to get to the Psou checkpoint at the border (about 10 kilometers), go through passport and customs control there, and then go through Abkhazia for another 60 kilometers. There is no through public transport on this route, you will have to change at the border. Taxi drivers from the airport do not really want to go this way either. Therefore, if you want to get there quickly and without transfers, it is best to book a tourist transfer. The driver of the car will meet you at the airport and take you across the border to the hotel.   You can also try to order a taxi through the Yandex.taxi app or on the website or through the local taxi app A-taxi or GarudaTaxi, then the trip will cost from 3,500 rubles. A taxi from Yandex will be a little cheaper, but you may have to wait a long time for the car to be delivered, especially during the high tourist season.

  If the budget does not allow you to order a transfer, you can use the following methods:

  • Group transfer

    In our opinion, this is the most convenient and relatively inexpensive way to get from the airport to Gudauta, although it is suitable primarily for single travelers. And if you are traveling with your family or with friends in a group of at least 3 people, it will be cheaper and more convenient to take a taxi.

    The group transfer is organized by the carrier and the taxi company Garuda. Minibuses with air conditioning or medium buses run along the route (depending on the workload). The journey takes about 3 hours, but it may be longer if there is a queue at the border. The cost 1600 rubles / person, children under 2 years old are free of charge. Minibuses run every hour, but you need to book a transfer in advance on the company's website https://abhaztaxi.ru/transfer/. There is no Gold Coast in the list of destinations there, so you need to book a transfer to Gudauta and ask the driver to drop you off on the highway opposite the Gold Coast, from where you will have to hitchhike or taxi 2-3 kilometers to your hotel or rented accommodation.

  • By bus

    As we have already said, there is no direct transport from the airport, you need to go with a change of buses at the border. First you need to get by bus number 558 to the Psou checkpoint, cross the border on foot, and then take a minibus to Gudauta. They don't go to the Gold Coast, they'll have to get off the highway and hitchhike or taxi 2-3 kilometers to the hotel. Well, or you can try to negotiate with the minibus driver about arrival in the village for an additional fee. Minibuses from the Psou checkpoint depart during the daytime from the forecourt (bus station), which is located after the checkpoint on the side of Abkhazia, but do not confuse it, it is not after the Russian checkpoint and then after the second checkpoint at the entrance to Abkhazia. From the bus station buses go to all popular resorts, including direct to Gudauta and passing to New Athos and Sukhum. They are sent from 7:00 to about 21:00 by filling approximately every 20-30 minutes. But sometimes much less often, it all depends on the flow of passengers. The fare is 150 rubles, about an hour on the way.

• To the Gold Coast by train

  

  There is no railway in the village of Zolotoy Bereg, but you can get to Gudauta by long-distance trains from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Belgorod, Samara and other cities along the route. But the launch of flights not from Moscow and St. Petersburg does not happen every season, so there is no guarantee. Therefore, if there are no trains from your region, then you can take the train to Adler railway station, and there transfer to the train or bus to Gudauta. From her to the hotel in the Gold Coast can be reached by passing cars or minibuses, or by taxi. • To the Gold Coast by car

  

  You can get to Abkhazia by car only through the checkpoint "Psou", which is located on the border with the Russian Federation (Psou checkpoint on the map) in the Krasnodar Territory, Sochi, Adler district, Veseloe settlement. The road to the border runs along the Black Sea coast through the cities of Greater Sochi, and this is the only way here. If you have never been to Sochi, then keep in mind that the section from Dzhubga to the checkpoint is a very difficult mountain winding road. Its length is 200 kilometers, but you can spend 5-6 hours on it with good weather and a free highway, and in peak season you can get stuck for all 12 hours. Gasoline on this site is consumed decently. After passing the border at the checkpoint to the Gold Coast will have to drive 60 kilometers on a flat good road.
