Tsandripsh settlement (also Tsandrypsh or Gantiadi) - the village in Abkhazia, the closest resort to the Russian border, is separated from the Psou checkpoint by only 5 kilometers (Tsandripsh on the map of Abkhazia).

In general, if we talk from a tourist point of view, then under Tsandrypsh or Gantiadi, tourists usually perceive a whole series of villages and villages that begin immediately after the border with the Russian Federation and continuously stretch along the coast for almost 8 kilometers. These are settlements: Leselidze (aka, Gyachrypsh or Gyachrypsh); the village of Kheivani (aka Amzara), and Tsandripsh itself. There are no borders between them, as there is no division into beaches. Tsandripsh is the most touristically developed resort village in Abkhazia. Of course, it can not be compared with the cities of Gagra, Sukhum, Pitsunda, New Athos, but if we talk about quiet resort villages, then it is the most tourist. The proximity to the Russian border does its job, and here you can even feel the atmosphere of the resort: tourists walk along the streets, goods for recreation are sold, there is entertainment on the beaches. However, like all other places in Abkhazia, the village is neglected and dilapidated: for many years nothing is done, not repaired, desolation comes.

Beach in Tsandripsh

The length of the beach line is almost 8 kilometers. It is not interrupted by concrete breakwaters or fences, it is wide enough. The water is clean, there are almost no people even in the peak season (July and August). The beach is pebbly, with large and very large stones, so special beach shoes for comfortable swimming are mandatory. Gray coarse sand is only a dozen meters from the water. There is no embankment, and the coastal strip is chaotically built up with cafes and kebabs. Umbrellas and sun beds are offered, sometimes there are entertainments in the form of jet ski rental, banana riding and parachuting.

Infrastructure and entertainment in Tsandripsh

In the village itself there are shops, a market with fruits, vegetables and meat, shops with goods for tourists, selling excursions, cafes and kebabs, even some simple children's entertainment like a shooting gallery, trampoline, inflatable slides. As such a tourist area, there are no places for walking or parks. If you are not on the beach, you will have to spend time either in the room, or on excursions, or in a cafe.

Attractions in Tsandripsh

There are two attractions in Tsandrypsh: beach with White Rocks and ancient temple of Tsandripsh fifteen hundred years old. Without problems, you can buy inexpensive group excursions to all the popular sights of Abkhazia, or independently by car or bus to go Gagra, or even if you wish to New Athos or Sukhum. If you like active recreation, you can go on your own or with a group on a one-day or multi-day trekking trip along the Hashupse River Gorge.

Weather and tourist seasons in Tsandripsh, when to go

As in the whole of Abkhazia, the tourist season in Tsandripsh runs from May to October, and the height of the season is in July and August. In May, it is already getting hot here and you can sunbathe, but the sea for swimming is still cool. In October, especially in the second half, the opposite is true: the sea is still warm, but the air is already cool.

How to get to Tsandripsh

Tsandripsh and other villages of this resort begin almost immediately after passing the border, and stretch for almost 8 kilometers. After passing the checkpoint on the Abkhaz side of the border, construction and even accommodation options that can be reached on foot immediately begin. The center of the village of Tsandripsh is located a little further, 6 kilometers, in the same place as the railway station of the same name. (Gudauta on the map of Abkhazia). You can get here by bus, train or car. By plane, the way will lie through Adler airport (Sochi).

It is better for Russian citizens to get to Abkhazia from the territory of the Russian Federation through the PSOU checkpoint in the village of Veseloe (Sochi) using an internal Russian passport, and in no case present a foreign one. A note in the passport about crossing the border of the Russian Federation-Abkhazia can further cause serious problems when visiting Georgia (see more about this How to get to Abkhazia). If you want to get here officially from the point of view of the Georgian authorities, then this can be done only with a foreign passport after obtaining the appropriate permits through the Inguri checkpoint on the border with Georgia.

• To Tsandripsh by plane

  Abkhazia does not yet have a functioning airport, so you can only get by plane through the nearest Adler airport (airport on the map). It operates many flights from the regions of the Russian Federation, especially in the high season (in summer). From the regions you can fly directly or through Moscow on convenient connections. It is better to buy tickets in advance, because in high season prices rise, there are few waiants.

  How to get from the airport to Tsandripsh

  To get from Sochi airport to Tsandripsh, you need to cross the state border of the Russian Federation and Abkhazia at the PSOU checkpoint, go through passport and customs control there, after which you almost already find yourself in the village, you just need to get to the right hotel or guesthouse. There is no through transport from the airport across the border. Taxi drivers from the airport do not really want to go across the border because of the queues. Therefore, if you want to get there quickly and without transfers, it is best to book a tourist transfer in advance. It is more expensive than a private taxi, but more comfortable, and the driver of the car will meet you at the airport with a sign and take you across the border to the hotel.   If the budget does not allow you to order a transfer, you can take bus number 173 to the Psou checkpoint, cross the border on foot, and then take a minibus or private taxi (if your hotel is far away), or even walk.

  Taxis in the direction of Gagra and other cities depart in the daytime from the Station Square (Bus Station), which is located immediately after the checkpoint on the side of Abkhazia. From the bus station, these minibuses buses go along the main highway along all the villages and villages of the resort of Tsandripsh, and you will have to get off on the main road and walk further, or arrange with the driver to call in the village. They are sent from 7:00 to about 21:00, they are sent by filling approximately every 20-30 minutes. The fare starts from 50 rubles.

• To Tsandripsh by train

  Tsandripsh can be reached by long-distance trains from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Belgorod, Samara and other cities along the way. If there are no trains from your region, then you can take the train to the railway station Adler, and there transfer to the train or bus to Tsandripsh.   Tsandripsh railway station is located quite far on the outskirts of the entire resort array of villages, and from there you will have to get to the hotel by taxi if it is far from the station (railway station on the map).

• Tsandripsh by bus

  Regular buses to Tsandripsh from the cities of the Russian Federation do not exist, but you can get through Sochi. From there to the border with Abkhazia (PSOU checkpoint) there are local city buses:

  • #125 (from the center of Sochi via Khosta, Kudepstu, Adler)
  • No. 173 (from Sochi airport, Adler, Kudepsta)

• Tsandripsh by car

  You can get to Abkhazia by car only through the PSOU checkpoint, which is located on the border with the Russian Federation (PSOU checkpoint on the map) in the Krasnodar Territory, Sochi, Adler district, Veseloe settlement. The road to the border runs along the Black Sea coast through the cities of Greater Sochi, and this is the only way here. If you have never been to Sochi, then keep in mind that the section from Dzhubga to the checkpoint is a very difficult mountain winding road. Its length is 200 kilometers, but you can drive it in 5-6 hours with good weather and a free highway. Gasoline on this site is consumed decently.

Transport

The entire resort area of several villages is quite long, almost 8 kilometers, but there is no public transport. If you need to get to the market, railway station, border, you can take a taxi (there is no official company taxi here, only private cabs), or go to the main road, where you can get into any passing minibus from the Psou checkpoint towards Gagra or back. But as a rule, transport is very rarely needed here, because wherever you stop, there will be a beach, cafes, and small shops within walking distance.
