Khosta - beach and therapeutic resort in Greater Sochi, located 20 kilometers south of the center of Sochi (Khosta city center on the map. When planning a holiday in Khost, it is important to understand the geography of this resort and area, since everything here is not so simple and somewhat confusing. Due to a misunderstanding of the difference between Khosta and Khostinsky district, some tourists make a mistake when choosing a place of rest and as a result do not get exactly what they expected.

Directly from the host - this is one of the microdistricts of Greater Sochi and the center of the greater Khostinsky district. The center or microdistrict of Khosta is compact and developed, it is in it that most of the tourist infrastructure is concentrated, hotels, sanatoriums, entertainment, residential buildings, shops and institutions. In fact, it is in the center or microdistrict of Khosta that most of the tourist life of this resort takes place. There is an important railway station and a small bus station for suburban buses.
Khostinsky district – this is a vast territory that stretches along the coast for more than 15 kilometers from the center of Sochi to Adler, and goes far from the coast into the mountains as far as the borders with the Republic of Adygea. Moreover, most of the district is located on the territory of Sochi National Park. Khostinsky district includes coastal settlements and resorts Kudepsta, Matsesta, Maly Akhun and a huge number of mountain villages and hamlets. But unlike the compact center of the resort, the infrastructure and tourist life in them is much less developed, the atmosphere of rest is completely different.

Since most hotel booking systems and package tour designations may designate all holiday destinations within the Khosta district as Khost, it may well be that while waiting for accommodation in the center in the thick of things and close to tourist and urban infrastructure, you will instead find yourself somewhere on the outskirts of the rest. Or vice versa: instead of the desired secluded sanatorium on the beach away from civilization, you will find yourself in the bustling urban environment of the center. Therefore, when choosing a package tour or hotel, carefully check its real location on the map, depending on your wishes. And our guide to Khosta will help you in this.

Holidays in Khost

Khosta is a traditional beach resort of Greater Sochi, which is famous for its beautiful nature, clean air, and even, as it is believed, a milder climate compared to neighboring resorts. This Khosta owes its location among the low peaks that protect the territory from strong winds and snow. Snow, by the way, is a very rare phenomenon here: if it falls in the middle of winter, then only for a few days.

But not only beach holidays and a comfortable subtropical climate attract vacationers and tourists here. On the territory of Khostinsky district there are many interesting natural and historical sights. True, for the sake of objectivity, it is worth noting that in the center of Khosta there is actually only one attraction – this is a very modest museum of local lore. All other notable places are scattered far from the center of the district, and to visit them, you will have to take excursions or independently get to them by car or local buses. Beaches in Khost

The beaches in Khosta and the arrangement of the coastal strip are, in our opinion, the weakest point of the resort, and contrary to the enthusiastic descriptions in commercial pseudo – guidebooks, there are enough minuses here.

The beaches here are mostly pebbly, although there are places mixed with gray sand. To enter the water, and in general for walking along the shore and swimming, it is better to wear special beach shoes, or at least beach slippers for approaching the water. The slope of the bottom is small and there are places suitable for swimming even with small children. In addition, safety is provided not only by rescuers, but also by a wall of concrete blocks under water about 20 meters from the shore.

During the high season, the main amenities for recreation appear on the shore: changing cabins, showers, toilets, sun beds and umbrellas for rent (200 rubles/day), storage boxes (50 USD). On some beaches there are bars with music and animators who lure everyone to beach and water activities. As for the latter, as in any other resort of Sochi there is everything to have fun on the waves: riding on "bananas" and "tablets"; renting jet skis, catamarans, boards for SUP-surfing; parachute, etc.within walking distance there are cafes and fast food sales, draft drinks are sold, including alcoholic.

This is where all the charms of khostino beaches end, and the minuses begin:

The beach line in Khosta is divided into short sections by old concrete breakwaters from Soviet times. They look shabby, as if from the century before last. In the area of osvod beaches and Kavkaz sanatorium, 20-30 meters from the shore, a wall of concrete blocks is equipped in the water, which is supposedly designed to ensure the safety of swimmers, but it all looks very scary.

A railway runs along the coast through the whole of Khosta, which separates the beaches from the resort, makes it difficult to get to them and "decorates" the resort with rows of barbed wire on fences. As a result, you can go to the beaches in just a few places: in the center near the mouth of the Khosta River; passage next to the railway station, from the Sanatorium "Cape Vidny", near the stop "branch of the sanatorium "Aurora".

There are also problems with access to individual sanatorium beaches, which take away space for recreation on an already unstrung and narrow shore. Fortunately, you can walk along the shore in the direction of Kudepsta for about a kilometer, where there are plenty of places on wild beaches.

If these shortcomings do not frighten you, then during your stay in Khosta you can relax on two conditional beach areas lying on different sides of the river. You can cross the river on a pedestrian bridge:

On the Right Bank of the river there is a municipal beach "Osvod", the beach of the Sanatorium Caucasus, sanatorium Aurora, breeze, Blue Hill, Central. Here is a simple promenade with cafes and restaurants operating in high season, Children's attractions. Outside of the high season, the infrastructure on the embankment is "dead".
On the Left Bank of the river 300 meters stretch the beaches of the sanatoriums "wave", "Crystal", "Khosta". Their territory is surrounded by a fence, but there is no big problem to get to the shore here. Further for one and a half kilometers to Kudepsta stretches a wild unfurnished beach, and closer to Kudepsta there are several sanatoriums. By the way, nudists have chosen the same places here. But the bad thing is that access to and from the shore along this entire length is possible only near the stop "branch of the Aurora sanatorium "through the old and terrible dilapidated underpass under the railway.

Infrastructure in the host

While relaxing in the host from the infrastructure you will find everything you need, but no frills. There are many small shops, there are inexpensive chain supermarkets "Magnet" and "Pyaterochka". There are no shopping centers, but there is something like a shopping gallery on Platanovaya Street on the way to the beach.

At the main Khosta market you can buy fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, souvenirs and goods for tourists, local tea, cheeses and other locally produced products. Prices, frankly, are not low, even local fruits are more expensive than in other regions of the Russian Federation, but you can bargain on the market. In addition, during the high season, stalls and tents with tourist goods and souvenirs appear on the embankment and passages to the beaches. If you want to do more serious shopping, you can take buses to Adler Market and visit large modern shopping centers there.

The developed tourist infrastructure in Khosta appears only during the high tourist season (in summer). There is a sale of excursions, cafes and restaurants, fast food and entertainment open on the embankment. The rest of the year the embankment is almost empty.

Weather in Khosta and tourist seasons

Khosta is a summer beach resort, it is best to visit it from May to October, sometimes you can stay until November. Unlike the neighboring Adler or the village of Sirius, which even in winter come for a change of scenery, for the sake of ski holidays at resorts of Krasnaya Polyana and trips on excursions, in Khost, tourist life outside the beach season almost freezes: excursions are not offered for sale, cafes and restaurants are closed, devastation reigns on the beach and embankment.

🌞 need to go from June to August. The beach tourist season takes place in the summer months, especially popular – July and August.
⛅ you can go in May, September-November. Late spring and autumn are also suitable for recreation, but, of course, do not expect comfortable conditions for swimming and heat. In November, the swimming season is actually closed, but sunbathing and swimming on some days is still possible.
🌨 do not go from December to April. These months are too cold and not at all suitable for a holiday in Khost.

How to get to Khost

Khosta is approximately halfway between the center of Sochi and Adler (Khosta on the map), and it is one of the most accessible holiday destinations, easily accessible by train or plane. There is a railway station, and next door in Adler Sochi International Airport.

By plane

Sochi International Airport is only 13 kilometers or 20 minutes drive from Khosta (airport on the map). We recommend looking for tickets to it on the website of the Russian search engine Aviasales, which selects the cheapest flights, including transfers.

From the airport to the place of rest in Khost, you can take a taxi (15-30 minutes, from 500 USD) or city bus number 105 (20-30 minutes on the way, 42 USD).

By train

Khosta has a railway station (Station on the map), where all long-distance trains from Russian regions and cities to Sochi and Adler stop. Also, it stops all suburban trains (trains) in the Krasnodar Territory and from neighboring regions.

Upon arrival at the station, the hotel can be reached on foot or by taxi. The cost of a taxi when ordering through applications within the resort starts from 69 rubles. Much more money is asked by "bombers" in the parking lot when leaving the station building, so we advise you to refuse their services.
By bus

Near the railway station of Khosta there is a platform with buses of the local bus station, but as such there is no bus station building here. The functions of the waiting room are performed by the railway station building.

Suburban and city buses arrive and depart here, but there are no long-distance buses. If you want to get to Khosta from a city outside of Greater Sochi, you will have to drive to Adler or the center of Sochi, and from there go to the resort by local transport.
By car

From Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities in the Western (European) part of the Russian Federation, Khosta can be reached by the M4-don toll Federal Highway or by free roads. The fare on the M4 toll sections will be from 1720 rubles. For all information about toll booths and payment procedures, see on the Rosavtodor website. On free roads, spend an additional few hours, because you will have to go through settlements with traffic jams.

The most difficult section of the road will have to be overcome after Krasnodar. In order to drive these 305 kilometers, at the height of the tourist season, it can take up to 8 hours due to constant traffic jams. The situation is especially difficult on the road from Dzhubga to Tuapse and from Tuapse to the center of Sochi, so if possible, plan to go at night or early in the morning. If you see at the entrance to Krasnodar on the Navigator that the Dzhubga-Tuapse road is in a dead traffic jam, then you can go around it through the Shahumyansky pass. This road is 75 kilometers longer, and through the pass you have to drive 7 kilometers on a terribly dusty and uncomfortable Macadam road.

Attractions and entertainment in Khost

Khosta is a small modest resort, and the list of entertainment and attractions here is also very modest. Most of the interesting places for tourists are located far beyond the resort area of Khosta in the Khostinsky district and other areas of Greater Sochi.

Unfortunately, a lot of confusion in the list of attractions hosts make low-grade guidebooks on the internet, praising the rest at the resort. In particular, "authoritative" sites in the top lines of search results suffer from this. For example, from source to source migrates a certain water park Breeze, which "offers a full range of water Entertainment". In fact, there is no water park in Khost, and the mentioned Breeze is just a small swimming pool at the hotel with a couple of water slides. Similarly, in pseudo-guidebooks to the resort, other tourist fakes or attractions located hundreds of kilometers away are attributed.

Fortunately for tourists, from Khosta with the help of excursions or independently it is easy to visit almost any sights and entertainment of Sochi and even make an excursion trip to Abkhazia (without a passport). True, unlike Adler, the center of Sochi and other major resorts, in the low season, inexpensive group excursions from Khosta are not so easy to find. But in the summer they are offered by distributors on the streets and the embankment, in hotels, on the internet. We recommend these sites for searching and booking excursions:

There is no great variety of entertainment in the host, rather the opposite. On the beach in the season there are traditional banana rides, rental of jet skis, catamarans and SUP surfboards. With small children you can go to the amusement park, and that's all in the host. To make it more fun on vacation, you will have to go for entertainment to neighboring resorts. We advise you to go to the center of Sochi to the Rivera amusement park; you can visit the water park, aquarium and dolphinarium in Adler; visit the Singing Fountain Show in the Olympic Park.

If you are a surfer, then in Khosta there is a good spot, considered one of the best in Sochi. But there is no service and rental, so you have to come with your board.
