Beaches in Gagra

The beach strip of the Gagra district stretches continuously for almost 50 kilometers, and in the city limits of Gagra there is about 5 kilometers of coast. It is along these five kilometers that the city and the entire tourist infrastructure are located.

Almost the entire coast is pebbly, in some places you can find large gray sand. But the entrance to the water is covered with pebbles everywhere, so special beach shoes are very useful for swimming here, so that it does not hurt to walk on the stones. The depth is decent, already a couple of meters from the shore will be waist-deep, so children should be carefully watched. The water is clean, at least objectively more transparent than in the resorts of Sochi.

There are traditional water activities on the shore. Ride a jet ski costs from 1000 rubles for 15 minutes, riding a banana-300 rubles per person. In the area of Novaya Gagra near the coast there is the only water park in the country.

Infrastructure and amenities on the beaches are available, but not everywhere. Renting a chaise longue, umbrella or mattress costs 150 rubles for two hours (for each of the items). More or less decent promenade and entertainment is only in the center. It is worth moving further away, as you will encounter dilapidation and destruction, but there will be much fewer vacationers.

Despite the division of beaches by name and their assignment to sanatoriums, they are all free and publicly accessible. In some places, of course, you can see the conditional oblique fences separating one site from another, but if you go to this territory, there will be no questions. To study each of these individual beaches and figure out which is better, in fact, there is no need for tourists. To understand and choose a place to stay, it is enough to divide all the beaches of Gagra into two large ones: old Gagra and New Gagra. They belong to the respective districts of the city (see districts and hotels in Gagra) and there is no clear boundary between them, although they are quite different.

• New Gagra. A more developed area, especially in the center. There is entertainment, a water park, cafes and kebabs. In the very center of the beach here is more or less decent, there is a promenade. On the outskirts of the promenade is broken, like the beach itself.
• Staraya Gagra. Quiet and peaceful area, where except to relax on the beach, there is nothing to do. The beach is in a rather deplorable state, there is no embankment.
