What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Some pseudo-guides on the Internet describe the Akhshtyr Gorge (canyon) as one of the most notable sights of Sochi and an incredible creation of nature. In our opinion (the authors of the site) these are rather advertising exaggerations. In fact, the Akhshtyr Canyon is just a long deep gorge (about 200 Meters) formed by the Mzymta River in the rocks, and one of the stopping points for a few minutes during group excursions, and nothing more. Therefore, it makes no sense to visit the Akhshtyr Gorge as an independent natural attraction, since a long trip to it from Adler or the center of Sochi is not worth it. But around it there are several interesting places that can be visited in the complex.
-
First of all, this is Suspension Bridge and Skypark extreme entertainment park. The bridge and park are located at the top of the gorge at an altitude of 207 meters. for more information about how to visit them, see here.
-
Another remarkable place is Akhshtyr cave. It is not very spectacular and beautiful, but it is known for the artifacts found in it at the site of the ancient man. To decide for yourself whether it is worth visiting, it is better to first read the full guide to it here.
-
If you like hiking, you can cross the river on a pedestrian suspension bridge to the other side. This is not about a paid SkyBridge at the top, but about an ordinary pedestrian bridge right over the river. On the other side there are "folk" routes to the Dzykhrin waterfall (about 500 meters and 70 meters in height) and Akhshtyr Lake (one and a half kilometers and 250 meters in height).
-
You can take a break and swim in the cool water of the mountain river Mzymta at the local beach with black sand.
-
Well, you can finish your stay in this place in a cafe on the beach, where fresh trout from the local Trout Farmis served.
To visit the canyon, the SkyBridge Bridge and the cave, we recommend setting aside half a day, and with a walk to the lake and waterfall, and dinner in a cafe - the whole day.
🕐 Working hours
around the clock, but visiting the gorge is best tied to the opening hours of the cave (from 10:00 to 18:00) and the Skypark entertainment park (from 10:00 to 17:30).
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price
free.
🚶 How to get there
the gorge is located on the Mzymta River between the villages of Kazachiy Brod and Akhshtyr, 40 kilometers from the center of Sochi and 15 kilometers from Adler (Gorge (canyon) on the map). You can get here by bus №№ 105, 535, 219, 221, 130 to the stop "Trout Farm". You can also take the Skypark company transfer (8 times a day from 09:30 to 16:30 every hour from the Adler railway station, the cost is 100 USD), visit the park and then go down to the canyon along the trail through the Akhshtyr cave.
