What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting

Akhshtyr cave will not please you with bizarre formations of stalactites and stalagmites. It will not surprise you with its gigantic size, you can get around all of it in 15 minutes. So we would definitely not take it to a spectacular and beautiful cave, and would advise instead to visit the much more interesting and beautiful Vorontsov cave.

Nevertheless, the Akhshtyr cave is known and remarkable for the artifacts found in it during excavations: the remains of a cave bear, which was supposedly eaten by Neanderthals; traces of charcoal fires; the remains of tools of ancient people. Unfortunately, you will not see anything found during the visit. This is just a cave with equipped paths (decking) and lighting, and nothing more. At the entrance to the stands there is a brief "dry" information about the finds and historical layers. As a result, walking along it without a tour escort, or if you are not an archaeologist yourself, is not at all interesting. It is worth visiting it only on the way to Skybridge suspension bridge and SkyPark amusement park, and then on condition that it will not be a pity to pay 200 rubles for the entrance. In our opinion (the authors of the site), the cost of visiting is clearly overstated.

A little further down the path there is another small cave Malaya Kazachebrodskaya, or rather even a grotto, with an icon of the mother of God inside. Find it easily by signs.

🚶 How to get there

Akhshtyr cave is located in the village of Kazachiy Brod, 45 kilometers from the center of Sochi and 20 kilometers from Adler (cave on the map. The entrance to it is not in the village itself, but higher on the mountain. You can get there by public transport or private car (there is parking). It is convenient to combine a visit to the cave with a trip to the Skybridge suspension bridge and SkyPark amusement park, for which you can use the park shuttle.

SkyPark transfer

8 times a day from 09:30 to 16:30 every hour from the railway station Adler departs a bus worth 100 rubles in both directions. The bus takes you to the entrance to the park, from where you can reach the cave on the trail (short way) or walk on the asphalt. City buses

The only city bus number 131 from the railway station Adler goes to the stop "Akhshtyrskaya cave", from where to the entrance to walk another 5 minutes. This bus can also be taken at the Novy Vek stop near Central Market or at Adler airport. But the route goes quite rarely, about every 1-2 hours according to the schedule. Here is the schedule in 2021: 05:40, 06:50, 08:10, 09:40, 11:30, 12:50, 13:50, 15:20, 18:00, 19:00. The fare is 80 rubles. If you need to get from another place, including from the mountain resorts of Krasnaya Polyana then you can take buses №№ 105, 535, 219, 221, 130 get to the stop Hamshensky Dvor, and already on it transfer to the bus number 131, which will take you up to the park.

Well, an option for those who are ready to walk a little on foot. Take any of the buses №№ 105, 535, 219, 221, 130 and go to the stop "Trout Farm". From here, the cave can be reached on foot via a marked trail. The trail starts from the river on Forelevaya street from building 45, There is a sign and markers along the trail. We (the authors of the site) overcame this climb with short breaks in 20 minutes.
