What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Deep pit or Dragon's mouth - one of the highest waterfalls in Sochi and in the entire Krasnodar Territory, its height is more than 41 meters. It is formed by the waters of the deep Yar River near the place of its confluence with the Mzymta. What is remarkable is that it consists of the upper part (this is a visible waterfall that breaks off the cliff) and underground (water comes out at the bottom from a crevice in the rock). The underground part is called The Deep Yar cave, but it is impossible to visit it, because it is filled with water. From the cave, water is taken into pipes for water supply.
At the foot of the waterfall there is a pool in which theoretically you can plunge, but the depth is small, and the water is icy Even in summer. And this is not surprising, since the deep Yar River is mainly fed by the waters of melting glaciers. Downstream, after the pool between the stones, there are several more small waterfalls and water slides.
In our opinion, there are much more convenient and picturesque waterfalls in Sochi, but if you decide to visit this one, we advise you to simultaneously look at the ruins of the IX century fortress temple and walk along the abaski Eco-Trail, which are located nearby. However, to see the fortress and enter the trail, you will first have to overcome a steep climb on the rock. Read more about the IX century fortress temple and the abaski eco-trail here.

the waterfall is available all year round, visit Strictly during daylight hours. The best season to visit it is Vesta and summer. In late autumn and winter, the waterfall dries up, there is nothing to see.
