Beaches and areas in Adler and where to stay

Article and Section Navigation

Overview of beaches, prices and services

The main thing is what they go to Adler for, of course, a beach holiday. There are many beaches here, their length is more than 8 kilometers, but objectively they cannot be called the cleanest and most attractive on the coast of Sochi. The fact is that the mountain river Mzymta flowing into the sea brings with it silt and sand, which makes the water muddy. Well, the old concrete breakwaters that break the beach into short sections of 50-60 meters do not add beauty at all, and the reinforcement sticking out of concrete and huge blocks under water along the shore also spoil the view. By the way, rebar and concrete blocks under water also pose a danger: there have been cases when vacationers have received serious injuries about them.

Therefore, if you are looking for a perfectly clean and well-groomed beach, it may be worth looking towards other resorts. For example, in the new resort village of Sirius south of Adler, the coast is without breakwaters, and the water is noticeably clearer. If you do not have a "point" about the purity of the water and the beauty of the coastline, then Adler is quite suitable as the main place of rest.

Holidays in Adler

The beaches of Adler are well equipped, especially the central "Ogonek" and "Chaika". A pedestrian embankment stretches along the shore, equipped with benches and decorated with palm trees and sculptures. There are cafes and restaurants, fast food and draft drinks, excursions are sold, there are stalls with souvenirs and leisure goods. There is a full set of infrastructure on the shore: changing cabins, showers, toilets, sun beds and umbrellas, massage, etc. Water sports and rental services are organized in separate technical areas. Here are the prices for services and entertainment for the landmark:

  • Access to the beaches is free.
  • Rental of sun loungers - from 250 rubles/ day, 150 rubles / half a day.
  • Toilet and shower – from 30 rubles.
  • Draft alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages - from 60 rubles/0.5 liters.
  • Banana riding - 300 rubles/person.
  • Riding on a "tablet" (cheesecake) – 400 rubles / person.
  • Catamaran rental – 300 rubles/hour.
  • Rent a jet ski – 1000 rubles / 15 minutes.

Sand or pebbles

The beaches in Adler are mostly pebbly, and only a few sandy-pebbly. There is sand on the municipal beaches "Ogonyok" and "Chaika", mostly large, gray in color. There is yellow sand on the "Ogonek", but, apparently, it is imported and eventually washed into the sea, so its presence every season is not guaranteed. On other beaches, there is sand under water a few meters from the shore, but not everywhere.

The pebbles in Adler are mostly small, it doesn't really hurt to walk on them, but special shoes for swimming aquashouses still won't hurt. Such shoes are sold at local tourist markets, the price starts from 250 rubles per pair.

Paid and free beaches

Officially, access to the beaches in Adler is not restricted anywhere, all of them are free according to the law. But there are unpleasant subtleties. So, at the height of the season on some beaches, large areas are leased by the administration for the equipment of recreation areas of increased comfort, i.e., in fact, to provide sun loungers and sunbeds to vacationers for a fee. With the tacit consent of the resort administration, tenants drive away vacationers who want to relax on their towels or mats for free, even to the point of excuses that they are located in the shade of a paid umbrella and have to pay or leave. Unfortunately, because of this, conflicts arise, sometimes even with the involvement of the police, but vacationers in them always turn out to be right. The Yuzhny-2 beach suffers especially from this, where larger and larger zones are becoming conditionally paid, and there is no place left for free accommodation at all.

Which is the best beach in Adler

You probably want to get a quick answer to the question: "What is the best beach in Adler?". Unfortunately, it is impossible to answer it unequivocally, since everything is too subjective, the variety of beaches is too great, and besides, the situation changes from season to season. For example, we, the authors of the site, consider the central city "Chaika" and "Ogonyok" to be the best, because here there is an opportunity to buy, and there are many places for shopping, entertainment and walking along the embankment. But perhaps you may not like them, because it's too noisy and hectic here.

Therefore, if you are in search of the best beach in order to choose a place for your hotel or rented accommodation, we advise you to read our full review of each of the beaches of Adler, and at the end of the article additionally and briefly about each of the districts and its infrastructure:

List and description of Adler beaches

Adler has a huge number of beaches, among which there are very tiny sections of the coast, attributed to a particular hotel, sanatorium or cafe. You can quite count more than a dozen of them, and if you describe each of them, then you are more likely to get confused and simply will not be able to choose a suitable place for you to relax in all this variety. Therefore, below we intentionally give descriptions of large beaches and neighborhoods of Adler with photos to make it easier for you to choose a place to relax and stay:

  • Municipal Chaika Beach

    • Located in the center of the resort
    • Perfectly equipped, lots of entertainment and has all the amenities
    • Crowded during peak season
    • Dirty and unsafe water

Chaika is the main municipal beach of Adler and the longest. It stretches for more than one and a half kilometers from the Mzymta River to the sanatorium "Southern seaside" (Seagull on the map). The most developed and beautiful part of the embankment runs along it, but, unfortunately, the shore itself is divided into short sections by breakwaters. Opposite this beach is the most developed part of the resort – the center of Adler.

The main disadvantage of the Seagull is its proximity to the mouth of the Mzymta River, which is why the water here is the muddiest on the entire Adler coast. And by the way, there is an opinion that along with the waters of Mzymta, the main part of sewage also gets into the sea, which is why there is a high probability of catching an infection here. And it's easy to believe if you walk along the banks of the river, littered with mountains of garbage. And it is also crowded with vacationers during the peak season in July and August: you need to come and take a free seat in the morning, or pay for a chaise longue.

Otherwise, Chaika is a great place to relax, because it is the most developed beach in the resort. There are pebbles and grayish sand on the shore, but the entrance to the water is only by pebbles. The depth is moderate, suitable for bathing children.

Approximately in the middle of the Seagull there is a special children's beach with a shallow depth, small pebbles and sand, children's pools. Adults are illegally charged 250-300 rubles to enter it during the peak season, children under 7 years old are free of charge. According to the laws of the Russian Federation, charging for passage to the shore is prohibited, and passage to official children's beaches for adults from outside while children are simply unacceptable.

There are a lot of water activities, there is all the necessary infrastructure (changing cabins, toilets, showers), sun beds and umbrellas for rent (from 250 rubles / day, 150 rubles / half day). On the embankment there are also simple entertainments such as shooting galleries, children's trampolines, rental of children's electric and bicycle cars, etc.; tour distributors work; shops with goods for recreation; there are cafes and canteens, fast food, draft drinks.

  • Vinograd Beach or Mandarin

    • There is a private pool
    • Comfortable sun loungers and bungalows
    • High price for renting a bungalow and a large deposit

On the southern outskirts of the "Chaika" and the mouth of the Mzymta there is a recreation area with increased comfort Vinograd Beach (Vinograd Beach on the map). In fact, this is still the same shore of Chaika Beach, but if you want to stay in comfortable beach bungalows and you don't mind spending a few thousand rubles on it, then welcome here. After paying the rent money, you also get the right to use the pool and tables in the restaurant. Renting a bungalow for 4 people costs from 3000 rubles, for 8 people - 6000 rubles. You will also have to pay a considerable refundable deposit of 20t.p.

  • The beach of the sanatorium "Southern Seaside"

    • Well equipped
    • Conditionally - a closed beach, all services are only for guests of the sanatorium

This is a sanatorium beach with a length of 375 meters, broken by breakwaters. It is located between two city beaches Chaika and Ogonyok, and you can freely pass through it ("Southern Seaside" on the map). You can get to it only by the shore or through the territory of the sanatorium, if you live there.

The beach is well equipped: there are changing cabins, summer showers, sun loungers. There is a zone of increased comfort for the guests of the Luxury rooms. In practice, it is even possible to accommodate guests from the side on the shore, but if you do not have a sanatorium book, you will not be able to use all the amenities and the security may ask you to leave. Well, to take advantage of all the advantages of this beach, it is best become a guest of the sanatorium "Southern Seaside"

  • Ogonek Municipal Beach

    • Convenient shallow entrance to the water
    • A lot of sand, including yellow sand
    • There are fewer vacationers than in the center
    • It is far from the center
    • Less entertainment and amenities

Ogonek Beach is located somewhat away from the central part of the resort towards Adler railway station (A light on the map). If you stop in the center, then you can walk here along the embankment for 2 kilometers or take any bus along Lenin Street towards Sochi to the stops "Take-off", "Cosmos" or "Adler Sanatorium".

Ogonyok compares favorably with the central Chaika beach by the absence of concrete breakwaters and a large amount of almost yellow sand over a length of more than a kilometer. In addition, there are fewer vacationers here and there are no problems with free space even during peak season, it is enough just to walk a little towards the railway station. The entrance to the water is more gentle and there are places with a sandy entrance.

But it is equipped and equipped much more modestly, especially if you go further from the center. In principle, there is everything for recreation, even a free toilet at the entrance from Chamomile Street, but everything is on a much smaller scale than in the center. The embankment along the shore also passes here, but in places it turns into a dilapidated pedestrian path.

Well, what else is inconvenient: if you decide to stay in the area opposite this beach, then you will have to go ashore only through the passages on the streets of Daisies, Enlightenment or Gogol, which are far from each other, and the rest of the coastal territory is impassable.

  • City beach "Parus"

This is a relatively small beach, its length is just over 200 meters. Located near Adler railway station ("Parus" on the map), respectively, you can get here by any bus to the station. To walk from the center of the district and the beaches of Chaika or Ogonyok, you will have to go not along the shore, but around, since there will be a closed territory of the Adler sanatorium along the way.

The shore here is divided into breakwaters every 50 meters. There is no sand, only pebbles. There is no entertainment on the shore, there is an abundance of cafes and services, too, but there is quite a neat promenade. The peculiarity of the "Parus" is that here on the first line there is a chain of guest houses with access directly to the embankment.

  • Beaches near the railway station

    • Small pebbles and sand
    • Few vacationers, almost wild beaches
    • There is no infrastructure, cafes, entertainment
    • There are few passages to the shore due to the railway

A chain of short beaches separated by breakwaters with a total length of almost 2 kilometers stretches along the shore in the residential district "Blue Distances" along the street of Enlightenment from the railway station in both directions (the beach of the railway station on the map). These include small beaches with the names "Parus", "Wagon depot", "Boarding house "Orbit" and "Green Hill", although, in fact, they do not stand out in any way and are part of a common beach near the station.

There are almost no residential areas nearby and very few options for accommodation (hotels), and an insurmountable wide strip of railway tracks and railway maintenance facilities runs along the coast. Access to the beach is possible only along Prosveshcheniya Street from the railway station, or through the passage under the tracks from Panfilov Street.

This is not a very pleasant neighborhood, when trains periodically rumble over your heads, it is compensated by the transparency of the water, the sparseness of the coast and small pebbles. There is no embankment here, as there are no cafes and any tourist infrastructure on the shore and nearby. Only to the south (to the left) of the railway station there is a small equipped embankment area called the "Parus" beach. You can even say that this is a local wild beach in the city.

You can get here from anywhere in Adler by buses going to the railway station, and these are almost all routes along Lenin Street, the fare costs 28 rubles. But the most convenient thing is that this is one of the few beaches where you can come by car and park it for free. There are quite a lot of parking places on the street. Enlightenment near the Car depot.

The beach near the railway station in Adler
This is how the beach looks in the area of the railway station
  • Beaches of the "Resort town"

    • Developed resort area with hotels and sanatoriums
    • Nearby there is a dolphinarium, a water park and other entertainment
    • Access to the beach only through the crossings under the railway

The resort town is a microdistrict of Adler, mainly formed by sanatoriums and hotels with a territory located behind the railway station (the beach of the "Resort town" on the map). Also, sometimes this place is called "Izvestia" after the name of the sanatorium and the train stop. This is quite a good area for accommodation: there are both sanatoriums and hotels with their own territory, as well as mini-hotels and private housing for rent. The area is developed, there is everything for recreation, including a local water park, a dolphinarium and an oceanarium.

Along the shore of the Resort town stretches 2 kilometers of purely pebble beaches belonging to one or another sanatorium, hotel or cafe. They are called "Wave", "Coral", "Izvestia", "Dolphin", "Frigate", "Barracuda" and others. But we do not recommend paying any attention to this division by name, since they are all available to visit for free, but differ only in the conditions of service and the presence on their territory of zones with free sun beds and sun loungers for guests of sanatoriums. For vacationers from the outside, the standard rental fee is 250 rubles/day.

There are only pebbles on the shore, but sand begins a few meters under the water. The slope of the bottom varies greatly depending on the location, but mostly 5-8 meters from the shore the depth is already up to the shoulders of adults. But you can find shallow and fenced off with floats places for swimming with children.

Along the entire neighborhood and beaches there is a developed embankment with cafes and restaurants, the sale of excursions and leisure goods, fast food and draft drinks. The only inconvenience, perhaps, is that the railway runs close to the shore, and the exits to the beach are equipped in the form of underground passages under the rails.

    A resort town in Adler
    Resort town
  • Beaches "Yuzhny-2" and "Barracuda"

    • Is not well developed, there is entertainment and a promenade
    • Located far from the center
    • A narrow strip of shore, little place to rest

Contrary to the name, Yuzhny is actually the northernmost beach of Adler, Kudepsta begins behind it ("Yuzhny-2" on the map). "Barracuda" is located nearby ("Barracuda" on the map). There are 8 kilometers from the center of the resort here, which during the rest is best overcome by bus or taxi, and there are very few parking places for personal transport. All buses go here from the center towards Sochi and Khosta, go to the stop "Pension Znanie" or "Pension Yuzhny".

This is a developed beach and a residential area for recreation with a sufficient number of hotels and housing. There are no small pebbles on the shore and the usual breakwaters every 50 meters, but sand begins a few meters under the water. There is an embankment with traditional cafes, excursions, fast food, etc.

But in our subjective opinion (the authors of the site), the situation on these beaches is somewhat chaotic, it is not always possible to relax comfortably. So, there is a problem with a free place on the shore, since the beach strip is narrow and limited by a railway passing almost close to the vacationers. The lack of space is compounded by the fact that a considerable part of the beaches are rented out to accommodate paid sun loungers and umbrellas, and tourists resting on their towels are being driven away from there in every possible way. There is no space on the water either, because there are areas with water attractions and rentals right next to each other, so catamarans and bananas ride almost between the swimmers. Well, another drawback: the exits to the shore lead directly over the railway tracks.

  • Beaches of Sirius or Imereti

To the south of Adler, beyond the Mzymta River, the territory of the Imereti resort or the village of Sirius begins. Here, too, there are several wonderful beaches for recreation, and they stand out favorably for their cleanliness and amenities. You can get there by a pedestrian bridge over Mzymta, but you will have to walk a couple of kilometers to the main beach and Imereti embankment.

There are only three beaches in Sirius:

    • "Lego" or "Sochifornia". Small, located at the mouth of the Mzymta. The water here is muddy, but there is a swimming pool (for a fee) and in general it is well equipped.
    • Imereti beach. Very long, completely pebbly. The water is excellent, transparent most of the time. A multi-kilometer new embankment runs along the shore.
    • Beach at the border. Almost a wild beach near the border with Abkhazia.

Hotels and accommodation in Adler, where is it better to stay

If you have read the description of the large beaches above, then you probably have most of the questions about where it is better to stay in Adler. If you are a little confused, then here is a summary:

  • Adler Center. This is the most developed part of the resort, starting from the bank of the Myzmta River opposite Chaika beach (center on the map). You may be surprised not by the central geographical location of the uty district, but until 2021 it was the geographical center of Adler, until the village of Sirius was separated from it. It is worth choosing accommodation here if you want to be" in the center of events", near shopping centers and within walking distance from the main municipal beaches of Chaika and Ogonyok.
  • Blue Dali Microdistrict. This is the area opposite the railway station (Blue Distances on the map). The peculiarity of the accommodation here is that all accommodation options are separated from the shore by a railway station and a car depot, which makes it difficult to get to the beach. The beaches themselves are almost wild here, but the water is clean and there are few vacationers. And it is also convenient to settle here in winter to relax in ski resorts, to be close to the railway station and to get up from it daily by train.
  • Resort Town microdistrict. Located behind the railway station (Resort town on the map). This is practically the second city center and a developed place with good beaches and entertainment. A great choice to stay on vacation. Here you can find accommodation in hotels and sanatoriums with a territory, or inexpensive mini-hotels and private housing.

There are a lot of accommodation options in Adler, but during the peak season (in summer) almost everything is filled. If you need comfortable accommodation at a good price, it is better to plan your vacation in advance and book it a month or two in advance. The best hotels are generally "dismantled" before the start of the season.
