What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Abandoned sanatorium Ordzhonikidze - one of the iconic architectural sights of Sochi, the heritage of the USSR. The complex of several buildings and extensive well-groomed territory at one time has been in disrepair since 2010. Today it has become a place of attraction for tourists for walks and photo shoots. We would not include this attraction in the number of mandatory visits during a holiday in the resorts of Sochi, but if you have already looked at everything and have nothing to do, then you can look here, especially since it is not difficult to get to it from almost any place in Greater Sochi.
Inspection of the sanatorium is possible only from the outside, you can not go inside the buildings. However, theoretically, the territory is also closed and dangerous to visit due to the possible fall of parts of the decoration of the building, but in practice no one controls it, so anyone can freely walk around the territory. It is worth saying that there are many such people: the territory is always filled with tourists, and even tourist groups are brought here and special photo tours are held. The best time to visit and take pictures is before sunset. The visit will take 10-20 minutes.
A bit of history
Sanatorium. Sergo Ordzhonikidze was built by the personal order of the "leader of the Peoples" I. Stalin in 1934. The construction lasted three years and was carried out under the personal leadership of the people's commissar of heavy industry Sergo Ordzhonikidze, or as he would now be called – the minister of heavy industry. The design was carried out by a whole group of architects, who were immediately given the task of creating a unique and majestic structure that was supposed to symbolize the power of the Soviet Union. This task was completed successfully, and the building turned out to look like a palace, while maintaining high functionality as a sanatorium, for which they provided sleeping buildings, a club-dining room, medical buildings, a well-groomed territory for medical walks. Despite the pomposity of its appearance, the sanatorium from the first days began to accept ordinary Soviet citizens, mainly miners, for recreation and Recreation. During the Second World War there was a military hospital.
Until 2010, the sanatorium worked as usual, after which it was closed for reconstruction. After that, there were problems with the ownership of the facility due to the alleged illegal privatization, and now the future of the sanatorium is unknown.
It is worth mentioning that there is an opinion that the sanatorium was built not at all in three years and not under Soviet rule, but even before it. The justification for this version is put forward by the fact that there is not a single photo of the construction on the internet. But according to the same logic, the sanatorium could not be built under tsarist Russia, since there were no photos of construction at that time either.
