How to get to Phangan Island from Bangkok

The cheapest way to get to the island of Phangan from the Russian Federation and other CIS countries is the route through Bangkok. There are, of course, other ways (via Phuket or Koh Samui, about all the ways to get to Phangan here), but they still cost a little more.

From Bangkok to Phangan by plane

Although in fact Phangan Island and there is no airport, there is still a way to get closer to the island by plane to reduce travel time.

The easiest and most obvious way is to fly immediately upon arrival from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport by Thai Airway or Bangkok Airways airlines to Koh Samui, where the airport closest to Phangan is located, and from there transfer by taxi, get to the pier and cross to Phangan by ferry (for more information on such a route, see the articles how to get to Koh Samui by plane and How to get from Koh Samui to Phangan and back). But this route is quite expensive, and if you want to save a little, it's better to use another flight.

So, from the old Bangkok airport Don Mueang (Don Mueang) frequent flights are made by low-cost airlines to the airport suratani (Suratthani Airport on the Phangan map), which is located nearby on the mainland. Flights there are operated by low-cost airlines Air Asia,Nok Air, Lion Air and Thai Smile with ticket prices starting from 1000 baht (see the exchange rate of Thailand). This is a great price, but even better is that on their websites Air Asia and Nok Air sell tickets for a comprehensive transfer directly to Tong Sala Pier in Phangan. This means that by purchasing such a composite ticket, you will be delivered directly to the island in an organized manner by plane + bus + ferry. The price of such a ticket is already about 1700 baht. But try to take tickets both ways at once and in advance, as it is cheaper.

Well, if for some reason it was not possible to buy such a composite ticket, you can get from Surat Thani airport to Phangan on your own, which in fact will not be difficult either. There is a counter right at the airport where you can buy a ready-made transfer from Suratani Airport to Phangan by bus + ferry for 700 baht. Please note that the mentioned low-cost airlines do not operate flights from the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, where all international flights arrive, but from the old Don Mueang airport (except for Thai Smile, which operates flights from the new airport). Therefore, you will have to first move between airports, which should be given at least an additional hour and a half of time. A free shuttle bus runs between the airports if you have tickets for departure from the airport, and it departs every hour from Gate 2 (Gate 2) on the ground floor of the Suvarnabhumi Airport. If for some reason you will be late, you can get there in half an hour and 400 baht by taxi.

From Bangkok to Phangan by bus

The cheapest way to get there from Bangkok – by bus. Of course, the bus itself does not go to Phangan, but delivers passengers to the pier, where they transfer to the ferry. Tickets are sold directly to Phangan, i.e. they immediately include the cost of the ferry. There is also an opportunity to take a bus to Suratani or Chumphon, where you will have to get to the pier on your own and transfer to the ferry, but you will save a little, and you will lose a lot in time. Therefore, we recommend buying compound Joint Tickets directly to Phangan.

From Bangkok, state buses to Phangan depart from the southern Sai Tai Mai Bus Terminal or Southern Bus Terminal at least three times a day (schedule in table below), the cost of 600 depending on the class. Tickets are purchased at the ticket offices of the bus terminal, and it is better to do it in advance.

In addition to state buses, from Bangkok Tourist Area Khao San Road there are many tourist buses to Phangan. They offer very attractive prices (about 1000 baht) and seem to be very convenient (no need to get to the very inconveniently located southern bus station), but we warn against using them. Very often on these flights with tourists there are troubles ranging from the loss of bags from luggage, and ending with the loss of tourists themselves somewhere on the roads of night Thailand.

Loprayah Phangan Transfer

If you are already in Bangkok in the Khao San Road area, then it is better to use the services of this well-known company than the services of unknown tourist buses. This company has proven itself well and provides decent service. The company's office is located in the Khao San Road area, and the shipment is from there. You will be put on a company bus, taken to the pier in the city of Chumpon, then put on a high-speed catamaran to Phangan to Thong Sala pier.

From Bangkok to Phangan by train

Koh Samui can be reached by train via Suratthani Railway Station (also called Phun Pin Railway Station) (Surat Thani railway station on the map). 11 trains depart daily from Bangkok to it, the fare ranges from 600 baht (seats) to 1500 (beds), travel time is 8-12 hours. In addition, you can purchase a combined train ticket, including an additional transfer (bus + ferry) to Phangan. which will cost another 500 baht more. On the spot, upon arrival at the Surat Thani railway station, the same transfer can be bought even cheaper, for 450 baht.

The train schedule from Bangkok to Surat Thani can be found at https://www.railway.co.th, but you will not be able to buy an electronic ticket for trains in Thailand. Tickets are purchased at the station, preferably in advance. You can also buy them at a travel agency on the street with a small margin. Alternatively, you can buy a paper ticket for Thailand trains online on the website http://www.thailandtrainticket.com /, and receive it upon arrival in Bangkok (purchased paper tickets are then issued at the station before the train departs or can be delivered to your hotel in Bangkok).
