How to get to Phi Phi from Phuket

Article and Section Navigation

Tourist boat on Phi Phi

The islands of Phuket and Phi Phi Don are separated in a straight line by about 30 kilometers. It is possible to overcome this distance only by water on a ferry or a high-speed boat. The journey takes 2-3 hours, but taking into account the need to get to the place of departure of the ferry, it is necessary to lay at least 6 hours for this crossing. The cost of a ferry ticket is from 420 baht (this is approximately 12.6 USD, see the currency of Thailand and its exchange rate). There are at least five flights a day in total.

But before planning an independent trip, study the offers of local travel agencies. They offer excursions from Phuket to Phi Phi for one or several days, and such tours are even cheaper than if you get there and live on the island yourself. Of course, we are talking about a maximum of three days, but if you are going to Phi Phi for a longer time, then you need to go on your own.

Ferry schedules and package tickets from Phuket to Pi-Pi Don

On Pi Pi Don, most boats and ferries arrive at the main Ton Sai pier. It is located in the most tourist center of the island (pier on the map), and from there you can get to the hotels on foot. If your hotel is located on distant beaches, you can use a water taxi. These are long-tailed boats that ply the perimeter of the island between the beaches. They cost from 200 to 1000 baht, depending on the destination, and depart from the main pier according to occupancy.

After the main pier of Ton Sai, some boats continue to Laem Thong Beach (Laem Thong Beach, also Laemton) in the north of Phi Phi. If your hotel is located in that part of the island, it is more convenient to get out there, especially since the ticket price is the same, and you don't have to spend money on a water taxi. But when buying a ticket at the box office, you should say that it is Laem Tong that is needed. When buying a ticket online, both piers are available for selection.

Where ferries depart from Phuket, where to buy tickets

Departure of ships from Phuket is carried out from two piers, both of them are located on the eastern side of the island, while all popular beaches of Phuket, including Patong, on the west. These are the Rassada piers (Rassada port, Rassada pier on the map), and Nam Chai Pier. Ferry tickets can be purchased at the marina before departure, at travel agencies on the street, or booked online using the search form below. Interestingly, buying tickets just before departure at the pier will cost more than through agencies or online.

You can get to the piers from the beaches of Phuket:

But the best option is to purchase a ready-made transfer from your hotel in Phuket to Phi Phi, which includes a bus ride to the pier and a transfer to the ferry. It is much cheaper than taxi+ferry. You can purchase such a transfer on the spot at travel agencies, or in advance through the search form:

How to get to Phi Phi from Phuket Airport

Upon arrival at Phuket airport you can immediately get to Phi Phi without spending the night on the island, but this is only if you are a little lucky. To do this, your flight should arrive in the morning, and there should be enough travelers on this route for the flight to Phi Phi to take place. And the latter does not always happen.

You can buy a transfer to Phi Phi from Phuket Airport at the airport in the arrivals hall, or book in advance here – 12go.asia. The cost of such a transfer is from 1750 baht (52.51 USD), in the opposite direction (from Phi-Phi) from 1250 baht (37.5 USD). Discounts for children. As of 2025, this airport transfer departs only at 07:30.

If the transfer did not work out, then you will have to get to the pier on your own, which can be done in such ways:

  • By local bus to Phuket Town, and from there to the pier by minibus No. 3 (for 10 baht), taxi or tuk-tuk. The journey will take more than 3 hours.
  • By taxi from 600 baht (12.6 USD). The journey will take 30-40 minutes.
  • Book in advance a transfer from the airport to the pier by taxi here - kiwitaxi.ru. A driver with a sign will meet you at the airport. The road will also take 30-40 minutes.

But keep in mind that if your flight arrives at the airport after 12 o'clock, you probably won't have time to get to Phi Phi on the same day, you'll have to spend the night in Phuket. If you have to spend the night in Phuket, then, in our opinion, it's best to go to Patong, where accommodation is cheaper, and it will be easier to find a transfer to Phi Phi the next day. Alternatively, you can spend the night in Phuket town, in order to leave on your own in the morning from there to the Rassada pier by minibus.
