Accommodation on Phi Phi
Tourist infrastructure and hotels in the Phi Phi archipelago are only on the only island - Phi Phi Don. Here you can find inexpensive hostels and hostels, several five-star hotels with their own beaches (conditionally, of course, since there are no private beaches in Thailand). There is also long-term housing, but the offers are very limited. Prices start from 500 baht (approximately 15 USD, see the currency of Thailand and its exchange rate) for a room for two with minimal amenities and a fan, for an air-conditioned room you will have to pay from 1000 baht (30 USD). There are also hostels where you can stay from 300 baht (9 USD) for a bed. In general, prices are slightly higher than on the mainland of Thailand, but during the low season (from May to October) they fall.
In high season (from November to April) it is better to book accommodation in advance. If you do not do this, it may turn out that you will not find anything at all on the spot, especially during the holidays, and then you will have to sail away from the island. In the low season it is not necessary to do this, and you can pick up the hotel immediately before the trip.

Phi Phi Don map with beaches, districts and hotels
Overview of beaches and areas where to choose a hotel
Although Phi Phi Don is a small island, there are several areas and beaches where the situation is radically different. In some places it is noisy and fun, and there is nothing to dream of a relaxing holiday, while in other areas it is quiet like in a village, and there is practically no one outside the hotel and on the beach. All the beaches here are made of fine white sand, sometimes there are fragments of shells. The entrance to the water is very shallow, and at low tide on most beaches it is impossible to swim at all: the water goes too far exposing the stones and the ugly bottom. There are sun beds and umbrellas almost everywhere (from 100 baht per day, 3 USD), cafes and stalls, there are few active beach activities. The exception is uninhabited beaches in the "attractions" section, where there is no infrastructure at all.
In order not to make a mistake with the choice of the location of the hotel on Phi Phi, below is an overview of the areas and beaches. However, please note that only inhabited beaches are listed here-areas where you can stay in a hotel or bungalow. About the rest of the beaches around the skeleton, where you can only come to sunbathe and swim during the day, see the section about attractions:
-
Ton Sai Village
The main civilization on the island is located in the village of Ton Sai (center/village on the map), or as it is called here - Phi Phi town. It is here that most of the hotels and guest houses, restaurants, cafes, travel agencies are concentrated, transport (boats) arrives here. Ton Sai is located on a narrow isthmus connecting the two large halves of the island, and from here two beaches are immediately accessible, the longest on the island: Ao Ton Sai and Ao Lo Dalam. Both beaches are located on opposite sides of the isthmus.
If you are going to the island for the first time and not for a long time, and you want to save money, then this is the best place. There are a lot of budget accommodation options here, but when booking, be sure to pay attention in the reviews to see if there are noisy clubs and bars nearby that prevent you from falling asleep.
The center of the island, Tonsai village -
Tonsai Beach (Ao Ton Sai)
This beach is located in Ton Sai Bay and in the most central and developed part of the island (Tonsai on the map). The main pier is also located here, constantly clogged with boats and boats. Despite the large number of boats, the water here is still clear, but you still won't get much pleasure from swimming here. Even if you go a little further along the coast from the center to the outskirts, there are still a lot of boats and small long-tailed boats.
However, the beach has a place to be and people swim. On the shore there is a chain of restaurants with access directly to the water, the infrastructure is well developed: there are sun loungers, drinks and food are sold from stalls, cafes and bars. This is the most crowded and noisy beach on the island, music plays here late in the evenings, and when the bars close, young people move to the beach. If you want to join this party, and are ready to stay up at night, then you can settle here. If you prefer a quiet rest and sleep, it is better to stay a little away from here.
Tonsai Beach -
Lo Dalam Beach (Ao Lo Dalam or Loh Dalum)
It is located on the other side of the narrow isthmus from Tonsai Beach, but also in the very center (Location on the map). There are also many hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, shops, but there are no huge number of boats, as on Tonsai. The water here is a little more transparent, the sand is cleaner. The entrance to the water is very shallow (therefore there are no boats), and at low tide the water goes very far, exposing the rocks at the bottom and actually making the beach unsuitable for swimming.
The infrastructure here is also well developed: many bars and cafes, sun loungers and parasols. But in general, the situation here is quiet and calm during the day, there are no crowds of tourists arriving by boat and the boats themselves, as on Tonsai. But in the evening this place turns into the main center of club life: dance floors work right on the sand, fire shows are held. In the western part of the beach, the situation is a little quieter, but there are plenty of bars too.
In general, there is not much difference on which of these two beaches to choose accommodation, since everything is very close. And if the overall situation in the area of the center suits you, you can choose a hotel on any of them based on reviews.
Lo Dalam Beach -
Long Beach Beach (Long Beach)
In our opinion, this beach has the perfect balance between peace, tranquility and cleanliness on the one hand, and the development of infrastructure and the proximity of parties on the other. If you stay here, then you will have a normal bathing beach right next to you and the opportunity to get a good night's sleep (the noise of parties will not interfere), but if you want to break away a little, then it's easy to walk to the center (Tone Sai) on foot (Long Beach on the map). Therefore, this is one of the best places for a long and full beach holiday.
The beach itself is not very long, less than a kilometer. The slope of the bottom is sharp, the depth is great. The coast is not protected by a bay, which, coupled with the sharp depth, sometimes leads to large waves. In the waters of this beach there are several good places for snorkeling, including Shark Point Reef, where you can see reef sharks. For the convenience of holidaymakers, there are public swimming areas fenced with nets. There are boats here too, but not as many as on Tonsai.
You can get here on foot from the center in 20-30 minutes. A water taxi from Tonsai Pier will cost 100 baht (3 USD).
Long Beach Beach -
Lo Ba Kao Beach (Lo Ba Kao Beach, also Loh Bakao)
This beach is best chosen for a long and relaxing beach holiday away from civilization and crowds of budget tourists, if your budget allows it, of course (Lo Ba Kao on the map). There are several accommodation options here, but there are practically no inexpensive hotels and guest houses. But even if you manage to book accommodation in advance at a low price, which is quite realistic, if you do it in a few months, you will still have to spend a lot on food and a water taxi, because this is a very secluded and inaccessible place. Infrastructure and entertainment are very poorly developed, there is only a minimal set of several restaurants and shops, a couple of massage parlors, and that's it.
To get far on foot, you will have to spend about an hour. By boat-taxi from the main pier – 200 baht.
Lo Ba Khao Beach -
Ao Laem Thong Beach
This is the most remote and inaccessible of all beaches with hotels on Phi Phi Don (Barking Tong on the map). It is even further away than Lo Dalam, and is suitable for those who want to be in a place where there will be a minimum of outsiders. After all, it is very difficult to get to it by land, and it's not only about the distance, but also about the complexity of the route. Well, not everyone is ready to fork out for a taxi boat here, so most often only those who stay in one of the few hotels in this area relax and sunbathe on this beach. Of course, the price of accommodation is far from budget.
The infrastructure here is poorly developed, and there is nothing but hotels, restaurants and cafes, small shops. There is a pier here where ferries from the mainland and Phuket stop, so you can get here bypassing the Tonsai Pier and a water taxi. Already during the rest, you can get to the center of the island (Tonsai) from here by water taxi for 500, but you need to bargain.
