How to get from Suvarnabhumi Airport

Article and Section Navigation

The main international airport of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (Suvarnabhumi Airport) is located 30 kilometers from the city center (airport on the map). It is very well connected by transport with the center of Bangkok, and it will not be any problem to get to the city or from the city to the airport on your own. You can get there by taxi, airport express, buses, minibuses. Payment for all types of transport is carried out in Thai baht, so at the airport you will first have to change a small amount to the local currency, or withdraw money from an ATM. Exchange offices and ATMs are available around the clock.

Free buses at the airport

Most of the tourist transport from the airport departs and arrives directly to the terminal, but some bus routes, including to other cities, depart from the Suvarnabhumi Bus Terminal (Public Transportation Center), or in other words, at the airport bus station, which is located 4 kilometers from the terminal exit. You can get to it on a free shuttle bus. These shuttle basses run around the clock with a frequency of about 15 minutes, depending on the time of day. You can find them when exiting the terminal on the ground floor (Level 1) near gates 1, 3, 8 and 10. Their stops are marked with the sign "Shuttle Bus Stop". If you need to get from Suvarnabhumi Airport to...

If you need to get from the airport to a certain place, you can use the following brief tips:

  • Khao San Road District. When exiting the terminal on the ground floor, take the direct express bus S1 for 60 baht. Opening hours are from 06:00 to 20:00, departure every 30 minutes.
  • Pratunam District. The most convenient and fastest way is by ARL Airport Metro to Phaya Thai or Ratchaprarop station for 45 baht. They run from 05:30 to 00:00, every 10-15 minutes.
  • Sukhumvit District. It is best to take the airport metro, get to Makassan station, go there to the Phetchaburi city metro station, and drive another stop to Sukhumvit station. If your hotel is located far from Sukhumvit Station, then you can transfer from Sukhumvit Station to the BTS Skytrain, which runs through the entire Sukhumvit district.
  • Victory Monument Bus Station. It is necessary to take the airport subway for 45 baht to get to the terminal station of Phaya Thai, and from it either walk 15 minutes on foot, or go to the BTS skytrain line and drive one station.
  • Mor Chit North Bus Terminal. Take the airport metro to Makassan station, where you can go to Phetchaburi City Metro station, and from there get to Chatuchak Park or Bang Sue Junction station, and from there walk 15 minutes, or take a taxi 50 baht.
  • Hua Lamphong Railway Station. Take the airport subway to Makassan Station, where you can transfer to Phetchaburi City Subway Station and get to Hua Lamphong terminal station.
  • Thonbury Railway Station. The cheapest way is to take the S1 bus to the tourist area of Khao San Road first, and from there take a taxi for about 100 baht to get to the station. It is most convenient just to take a taxi for about 400 baht (according to the meter).
  • Sai Tai South Bus Terminal. The cheapest way is to take the S1 bus to the tourist area of Khao San Road first, and from there take a taxi for about 250 baht to get to the bus station. It is most convenient just to take a taxi for about 400 baht (according to the meter).

By taxi

Suvarnabhumi Airport Taxi

A taxi ride to the center is inexpensive, from 250 to 400 baht depending on the destination. Payment is made using the Taxi-meter. In addition, you will have to pay 50 baht for the toll road.

It is best to use an official taxi ordered at the counter when exiting the terminal. This is the only way you guarantee yourself that you will not overpay for travel. It is easy to find the racks, follow the "public taxi" signs to exit the terminal on the ground floor. There you will see again pointers directly to the electronic queue counters, and there may be a queue of passengers to them (terminals). When it's your turn, get a ticket and take it to the boarding gate. One part of the ticket is given to the driver.

You can also order a taxi through the Grab application (instead of Uber, which does not work here). Trips via Grab are no more expensive than a regular taxi on the meter, but you will immediately see the cost when ordering. For ordering, you can use free Wi-Fi at the airport.

Near the counter there are "helpers" who will offer you to leave without a queue. This is a traditional wiring, and you will be offered a much higher price, up to 2500 baht per trip without using a meter. If you are not in a hurry, it is better to avoid communicating with them.

Another option to take a taxi without waiting in line is to first take a free shuttle bus to the Suvarnabhumi Bus Terminal (Public Transportation Center) and take a taxi there. There is also a counter for ordering, but in the reviews of tourists there is information that the prices there are higher, possibly because of the "twisted" counters.

And another, much more convenient option is to order a taxi transfer in advance. The price will be slightly higher (from 800 baht depending on the class of the car) than the meter, but you will not have to stand in line, besides the cars are more comfortable and safe, and if necessary, child seats are provided. The driver will meet you at the airport with a sign, and immediately after receiving your luggage and passing the border formalities, you can go to the place you need in Bangkok or to another resort. You can check prices and order a transfer using the search form:

Rent a car

  • Travel time: 1 hour
  • Cost: from 600 baht/day (18.4 USD)
  • Working hours: around the clock

There are several representative offices of world-famous car rental companies at the airport, and if you wish, you can leave here by car, and use it to return or return the car to the car rental company elsewhere. You can also rent a car in Bangkok itself or at other resorts. It is better to book a car in advance via the Internet. The rental price when booking in advance starts from 600 baht, and the longer the period, the lower the price. You can find and book a car for rent using the search form and compare prices from different rental companies:

To drive a car in Thailand, tourists no longer need to obtain an international driver's license (IDP). On May 1, 2021, the long-awaited event finally took place - Thailand ratified the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, which it initially joined back in 1968. And now in Thailand, theoretically, it is possible to manage rented transport using ordinary Russian rights. However, so far in Thailand there has not been a practice of adopting national VUS on the roads by police officers, therefore, in order not to finish off our rightness every time, we still recommend that you additionally issue an IDP. By airport metro

  • Travel time: 26 minutes
  • Cost: up to 45 baht (1.38 USD)
  • Working hours: from 05:30 to 00:00, every 10-15 minutes
Suvarnabhumi Airport Metro

Airport Metro ARL (Airport Rail Link) allows you to get to the center in just 26 minutes and 45 baht. Transportation is carried out in new modern trains on the overpass, bypassing all traffic jams.

At the airport, the station is located on the lowest level, there are signs leading there. Tickets are purchased at vending machines (there are at every airport metro station). The fare depends on the distance, so you need to select the station you need on the screen and pay the calculated cost (the maximum fare is 45 baht). The machine accepts banknotes and coins, issues change and tickets. Then follow the ticket-card to the automatic turnstiles, as in a regular subway. Do not forget to take the card after entering, because it will be needed at the exit, where it will also have to be passed through the turnstile.

Until 2014, there were two types of trains on this route: Express Line without stops, and City Line with stops. At the moment, the Express Line is suspended, but the City Line is quite enough. City Line trains make seven stops along the way. For tourists, only three of them are of practical interest:

  • Makkasan (denoted by A6). Here you can transfer to the Bangkok Metro (see about all types of Bangkok metro here) to get to the main railway station Hua Lamphong, Sukhumvit district, Patpong Street district, or to the north bus station Mor Chit. The city metro station here is called Phetchaburi, with a covered walkway leading to it.
  • Ratchaprarop (denoted by A7). This is practically the center of the Pratunam district, one of the most popular among tourists. Hotels in the area, Bayok Sky Tower, Pratunam Market, CentralWorld shopping center are within walking distance from here.
  • Phaya Thai (designated A7). It is the terminus, also in Pratunam district. There are also many hotels within walking distance nearby, but not as many as near Ratchaprarop. Here you can transfer to the Bangkok BTS (Skytrain) skytrain, and drive one stop to the Victory Monument transport hub, get to the right place in the Sukhumvit area.

By bus

  • Travel time: 2-3 hours
  • Cost: 8 - 60 baht (from 0.25 USD)
  • Working hours: mostly from 06:00 to 20:00
Bus route S1 from Suvarnabhumi Airport

From the airport, almost all city buses depart from the Suvarnabhumi Bus Terminal (Public Transportation Center), which can be reached from the terminal exit by a free shuttle bus. A convenient exception is the S1 express bus, which goes directly to the Khao San tourist area immediately from the terminal. All buses are paid in cash to the driver or conductor.

Keep in mind that gradually bus routes from the airport are canceled as unnecessary, so the information below is given for reference (with the exception of route S1, it is new and valid), and it is quite possible that some of them have already been canceled.

Learn more about routes:

  • Route S1. The new and most convenient route, because on it, without a transfer, you can get directly to the tourist area of Khao San, and this is the only way to get there without a transfer. It departs from exit 7 (Gate 7) on the first floor. Payment by bus, 60 baht. Opening hours are from 06:00 to 20:00, departure every 30 minutes, on the way 1-1.5 hours. For more information about this route, where it stops, and their position on the map, see Here.

  • Route 552. Departs from the Suvarnabhumi Bus Terminal (Public Transportation Center). It does not pass through the tourist areas of Bangkok, but it can take you to the BTS On Nut metro station.

  • Route 554. Departs from the Suvarnabhumi Bus Terminal (Public Transportation Center). It can take you to Don Mueang Airport. According to information that we have not verified, it is sent every 15 minutes around the clock.

  • Route 555. Departs from the Suvarnabhumi Bus Terminal (Public Transportation Center). It takes you to Don Mueang Airport and also to the center in the districts of Pratunam and Sukhumvit. It is open from 06:00 to 24:00.

  • Routes 558 and 559. They depart from the Suvarnabhumi Bus Terminal (Public Transportation Center). Does not pass through the tourist areas of Bangkok.

On LimoBus minivans and buses

  • Travel time: 1-2 hours
  • Cost: from 200 baht (6.13 USD)
  • Working hours: mostly from 09:00 to 24:00
Look for this counter at Exit 8 to buy tickets for a minivan or LimoBus

If you need to get right to the very center of tourist areas in more or less comfortable conditions, you can use branded minivans or by LimoBus buses. They depart directly from the terminal, i.e. you do not have to go to the airport bus station first. As far as we know, they do not have a schedule and they are sent according to occupancy, this is quite common during the daytime. To use them, you need to find a counter in the arrivals hall at exit 8 (Gate 8), and tell them where you need to go. Minivans are sent at least to the districts of Khaosan, Pratunam, Sukhumvit, Chinatown, Silom. Travel costs from 200 baht, slightly different in directions.

However, please note that if you are traveling alone or as a family, then using minivans is even less profitable than a taxi.

How to get from Suvarnabhumi to Don Muang

The most convenient and free way to get to Don Mueang Airport is to use the free shuttle bus. To use it, you need to show a printout of an electronic ticket or boarding pass for a flight from Don Mueang Airport at the counter located at exits 2 and 3 (Gate 2, 3). Buses depart every 12-30 minutes from 05:00 to 23:00, 40 minutes on the way. I.e. 1.5 hours should be planned for the entire move.

Shipping periods:

  • 05:00 – 08:00, 11:30 – 15:00, 19:30 – 24:00 every 30 minutes
  • 08:12 – 11:00, 15:12 – 19:00 every 12 minutes
