What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting

Amathus Archaeological Park, Cyprus
Amathus Archaeological Park

Ruins Of Amathous – this is an archaeological park on the site of the city of Amathus, also known as Amafunta or Amatunta, one of the oldest in Cyprus. Presumably, OT was founded in the XI century BC, but historians are arguing about this.

This archaeological museum is not very popular with tourists, and it really is not as diverse and large as, for example, Kourion Archaeological Park in Limassol, not to mention Pafos Park. There is not even a single restored building, but only the foundations or the lower part of the walls of the buildings, and scattered around them stones that once served as their walls. Archaeologists also discovered a water supply system, baths, temples, but without the explanations of the guide you will understand little here, and the information available in English sheds little light. In addition, some of the exhibits here, such as a large bowl, are just copies. Perhaps in time there will be whole buildings, as archaeological excavations and restoration work are underway, but for now we would not recommend the ruins of Amathus to a mandatory visit. It is interesting to visit only with a guide who will tell you in detail about the history of this place and the purpose of some buildings, or if you really like to visit the ruins.

By the way, if you drive by, you can explore the ruins for free. If you go to the left of the entrance along the path along the fence, and go up the hill, you will get to the free ruins of the Acropolis, and from there the site offers a great view of the paid part of the Archaeological Park.

В принципе пойдет чтобы заехать по пути, но по сравнения с руинами в Пафосе так себе, хотя конечно и цена тут соответствующая и чисто символическая по сравнению с другими руинами
