The distance from Bangkok to Koh Samui is more than 600 kilometers. To do this route, it will take time from several hours to a day, and it depends on how much money you are willing to spend. You can choose a plane, train, bus and ferry. As for the ferry, it completes any of the routes except the plane.
If you want to get to Koh Samui from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport (Suvannapum), then the only direct route from here is by plane. But these flights are quite expensive, and to save money, you can use the route through Bangkok by bus, train or use the services of Lomrayah, or get through the old Bangkok airport Don Mueang. All methods are described in detail below, and also see additional information on the topic:

You can also find and book flights to Koh Samui through the search form. The search is very flexible and allows you to find flights on different dates, with or without transfers, in both directions or one, etc.:
Upon arrival from the airport, you can get to the hotel by taxi or take a minivan to the popular beaches. You can also order a taxi using the search form:
Fare from Koh Samui Airport in 2015:
| Route | Minivan in baht per person | Taxi in Baht per trip |
|---|---|---|
| Airport - Big Buddha | 100 | 380 |
| Airport - Chaweng | 130 | 440 |
| Airport - Lamai | 200 | 700 |
| Airport - Bo Phut | 130 | 540 |
| Airport - Mea Nam - Banntai | 150-200 | 630 |
| Airport - Bang Po - Nathon | 200 | 760 |
Another flight option is much more economical – through the airport of Suratthani, located not far from the mainland (Surat Thani Airport on the map). You can fly there by budget airlines Air Asia,Nok Air, Lion Air and Thai Smile from 1000 baht. You can get from the airport further to Koh Samui without any problems by buying a ready-made bus + ferry transfer on the spot from 350 baht (2.5 hours on the way) at the counter right at the airport. In addition, airlines offer ready-made air tickets + bus+ ferry on their websites.
But keep in mind that they do not depart from the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, but from the old Don Muaeang Airport (except for Thai Smile, it still flies from Suvarnabhumi). Therefore, if you have just arrived in Thailand, you will first have to move to Don Muaeang airport on a free shuttle bus, which will take at least one hour, and it's better to stock up on a couple of hours. You can find a shuttle bus on the first floor of the Suvarnabhumi at exit 2 (Gate 2). A taxi will cost from 400 baht, about half an hour in time.
By train+ferry
Koh Samui can be reached by train via Suratthani Railway Station (also called Phun Pin Railway Station) (Surat Thani railway station on the map). From Bangkok, 11 trains depart there daily from Hualamhpong station, the fare is from 150 baht (seats) to 1500 (berths in the compartment), travel time is 8-12 hours. In addition, at the station or at travel agencies in Bangkok you can purchase a combined train ticket, including a transfer (bus + ferry) to Koh Samui. It will cost about 300 baht more. If it was not possible to buy a combined ticket, then upon arrival at the station in Suratthani you will still be greeted with offers to get to Koh Samui by bus + ferry. It makes sense not to agree right away, but to find out the prices from other sellers, because they often break prices right from the train doorstep. To ensure that you pay the right price, you should go directly to the buses in the parking lot and buy a ticket there (but tickets are not served by drivers, but by touts-conductors). The normal price for a bus + ferry for a landmark (2014) is 280 baht.
Train schedules can be found at https://www.railway.co.th. Tickets are purchased at the station, preferably in advance. You can buy at a travel agency on the street with a small margin. Unfortunately, the sale of electronic tickets has been suspended since 2013.
Train tickets throughout Thailand while on Koh Samui can be purchased without problems at travel agencies, but with an additional commission. There is an office in Nathon, where you can buy train tickets without commission. This is the Phantip company office at 11/4 Moo 3, Taveeradpakdee Rd. It is about 100 meters from Nathon Pier, the landmark is Bank Krungsri.
In general, it makes sense to go by night train to arrive on the island early in the morning. Moreover, there is only one morning train – at 8:05 (arriving at Surattani at 16:45). If you use it anyway, then upon arrival you will need to practically run and look for a bus and a ferry. If the train is a little late, you have no chance, except night ferry to Koh Samui from the center of Surat Thani. But as a result, you will again arrive only in the morning.

Catamaran Loprayah
This is a great and fast way to get from Bangkok to Koh Samui if you are already in Bangkok, and especially in the Khaosan Road area. It is there that the company's office is located, and from there they go on a flight. But you can additionally request a transfer from / to the hotel or airport, so that the company's services can be used immediately upon arrival in Thailand via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport.
The company offers a comprehensive transfer on its high-speed catamarans to Koh Samui. Of course, part of the way is by bus. The route in general looks like this: you are put on a bus near Khao San Road; then transfer to Chumpon, where you transfer to a high-speed catamaran; sailing to O. Tao, about. Phangan, and finally about. Koh Samui.
Catamarans arrive in Koh Samui at their own marina on Maenam Beach. Additionally, a delivery service from/to the hotel or airport is offered.
The cost of the entire route is 1400 baht. Departure at 06:00 (arrival in Koh Samui 16:40), and at 21:00 (arrival in Koh Samui 11:20).
For booking tickets and the current schedule, see the website http://www.lomprayah.com/
By bus+ferry
By bus from Bangkok to Koh Samui, you can get from the Southern bus terminal (Sai Tai Mai). Learn more about the Sai Tai Mai terminal and where it is located here.
Arriving at the station, you need to find the ticket offices there and buy a composite or combined bus + ferry ticket to Koh Samui (the so-called Joint Tickets) for the next flight. If there are no such, you need to take to Surat Thani (Surat Thani). It is not necessary to purchase tickets in advance, they are always available, if not for the next, then after one flight. The only exception when there may not be tickets is during the holidays: Thai and Chinese New Year.
The ticket price to Surat Thani is from 550 baht, to Koh Samui by ferry – from 800. The journey takes 10/13 hours, respectively. It is better to take a night flight, because even if you take the earliest bus, there is a chance not to catch the last ferry in the case of a non-composite ticket to Surat Thani, and then you will either have to spend the night on Koh Samui or take a slow night ferry. From the Surat Thani bus station directly to Koh Samui, it will not be difficult to get there. It offers a shuttle bus to the pier +ferry from 250 baht.
Some regular buses from Bangkok are now arriving at the new bus station near the village of Lipa Noi (Koh Samui Bus Station on the map), not to DonSak Pier on the mainland, as it was before. Thus, by boarding a regular bus in Bangkok, you find yourself on the island itself without any transfers, since the bus is ferried to by Raja Ferry. However, there is one inconvenience - the bus station is located far from the Nathon Pier, from where taxis depart along the ring road to the beaches of Chaweng and Lamai. Now from the station you can walk to the ring road literally 200 meters, and there catch a minibus to Lamai, or take it in the opposite direction to Nathon, and then transfer to Chaweng, etc. Tickets for regular buses from Koh Samui to Bangkok are sold at the ticket offices at the same bus station.

🚌 Arrive at the point of departure
You can bypass all these difficulties with the need to get to the bus terminal and search for buses, and just buy a ticket at a travel agency in Bangkok (especially in their area Khao San Road). Then you will either be taken to the bus terminal and put in a large company bus (this is the preferred option), or the company uses its own transport. The price of travel on the bus of private companies is very attractive, from 1000 baht for the entire route, but we highly recommend using their services, because they often violate their own schedules, sometimes they "throw" tourists halfway or "lose" them, bags and other troubles disappear from buses. This does not happen to every tourist, but cases are not uncommon.
By ferry
If you get here on your own, without using a plane and a combined ticket, then the last stage of your journey to the island will include a ferry crossing. Read more about ferries to Koh Samui here. There is no direct way to get from Bangkok to Koh Samui by water.
