Hotels in Koh Samui, where to stay
Hotels on Koh Samui is a huge number, and you will have no problem finding a decent room on the spot in most areas (beaches) on the island. The only reason why it is worth booking a hotel in advance is the desire to save money, since the prices offered in the search are lower than on the spot. It should be borne in mind that during the high tourist season, prices can rise by about one and a half times. The most expensive months are the second half of December, January, February and March. So, some hotels manage to raise prices twice during this period.
You can find and book accommodation on Koh Samui on these sites or through the search form. All sites have a Russian interface and Russian-language customer support, a lot of reviews from real guests.

Areas and beaches of Koh Samui
We can safely say that the beaches on Koh Samui are almost everywhere excellent. They are clean, with turquoise clear water, with palm trees. The bottom, in most cases, is comfortable, the influence of tides on most beaches is also not much different. The color and size of the sand, the transparency of the water and the environment surrounding the beach on land differ. Tides have some negative impact on the quality of beaches. On most beaches, the tides almost do not manifest themselves, but on some during low tide the sea becomes completely unsuitable for swimming. Take this into account when choosing a place or plan your stay in such a way that the low tide falls at night. You can view the tide forecast for Koh Samui here: http://magicseaweed.com/Ko-Samui-Surf-Report/.
When choosing a beach for a long stay (hotel stops), in our opinion, you should first of all pay attention to the development of infrastructure, the popularity of beaches (the number of tourists), proximity to attractions, transport, and choose a place close in spirit. You can see the full list of beaches and districts of Koh Samui here, and below we have tried to briefly describe the most popular and developed beaches:
-
Chaweng Beach
Chaweng Beach This is the most popular beach on the island. Located on the east coast (Chaweng beach on the map) and has a length of 7 kilometers.
The maximum number of hotels and entertainment (clubs, bars, restaurants, water sports) is concentrated here. You can safely compare this beach with Patong in Phuket, although the scale of entertainment here is more modest. Do not count on a calm and serene holiday here – this is the most cheerful place on the island. The quality of the beaches here is also excellent: fine white sand and turquoise water. There is only one drawback on the beach: they are almost always filled with vacationers, and it is impossible to find a secluded quiet place here.
Go to Chaweng if you want to relax on a great beach during the day, go shopping and markets, and have fun in bars and discos at night.
At the same time, within Chaweng, the northern part can be distinguished, which is quieter and calmer. Here the bottom very slowly goes under the water, which is why the influence of the tides is very strong. But this place is not as crowded as the rest of Chaweng. In this part it is worth going to rest with children.
-
Lamai Beach
Hin Ta and Hin Yai Perhaps this is the best beach on the island. At least in matters of beauty and cleanliness, most tourists prefer this beach. This beach is the second largest after Chaweng (about 4 kilometers) and the second most popular after it. Lamai beach on the map
Throughout all four kilometers of the beach, it varies quite a lot: the depth, the profile of the bottom and the influence of the tides change. The central part is considered the most convenient, while in the north the influence of the tides is strong, in the southern part there are many large stones hidden under the water.
The area and the beach itself are quieter and less crowded than Chaweng, but you can't call it a remote village either. There is everything for entertainment here, but less than in Chaweng. There are water activities on the beach, a lot of sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach. There are also quite a lot of vacationers. In the evening, bars and several discos open their doors along the main street and in the alleys, but they do not interfere with sleep for those who are not interested.
Go here if you don't want to live and stay up at night because of noisy bars and nightclubs, but you want entertainment to be nearby and available at any moment.
-
Bo Phut Beach
Bophut Beach The name of this beach is often also written Boput. Bo Phut is located in the north of the island just a couple of kilometers from the airport (Bo Phut beach on the map). But don't worry, it won't inconvenience you if you stay on this beach. Planes don't fly at night and won't bother you at all.
The length of the beach is about three kilometers. The sand here is quite large, dark in color. The influence of the tides is not strong. The depth here is great, and not very suitable for a holiday with children. The bay perfectly protects the beach from winds and waves, and the sea here is almost always calm. The water is not the most transparent among the beaches of the island, but this is not because it is dirty, but because of the peculiarities of the underwater soil.
The infrastructure of this beach is quite developed: there are water activities, a chain of restaurants, cafes and shops lined up along the beach, there are also bars with girls. In general, the Bophut area is known for its themed restaurants and excellent cuisine. There are many hotels, but they are mostly expensive and luxurious. The peculiarity of the area is that it is, as it were, the most stylish and unique on Koh Samui: each cafe, restaurant, hotel is decorated in an original way.
-
Mae Nam Beach
Mae Nam Beach Another pronunciation of this beach is Manam. The northernmost beach of the island (Mae Nam Beach on the map), adjacent to Bo Phut beach from the west.
The length of the beach is almost 5 kilometers, and its crescent-shaped line is located in the bay.
The sand on this beach is large yellowish-brown, it is often compared in texture with cane sugar. The influence of the tides on this beach is perhaps minimal among the beaches of the island. The bottom quickly goes under the water, there are almost no small places (except for a couple of meters from the shore). The water here is never clear. The reason for this is not only natural silt from the bottom, but also muddy water, which is brought to the sea by three rivers, the mouths of which are located on the beach. If possible, try to settle away from these places (especially from the mouth of the largest, eastern river). The rivers are clearly visible on the beach map, the "worst" of them is the one on the right (east).
There is another small drawback on this beach: the hotels are located mixed with the houses of local residents and at a great distance from each other. The atmosphere reigns as in the village, there is nowhere to walk or go in the evening. There is almost no entertainment for tourists here, even molesting merchants on the beach are absent.
All the disadvantages of the beach are more than compensated by the prices of accommodation: they are very low. Moreover, in addition to hotels, it is very easy to find accommodation for a long time, again, at minimal prices. If you are going to Koh Samui for a long time and do not have a big budget, then you can't find a better place for Me.
Choengmon (Choeng Mon)
Choeng Mon Beach Choengmon district occupies the protruding part of the island in the northeast (Choengmon on the map). Hotels are scattered throughout the area and along the coast, while the beach occupies a very small part of the coast. The length of Choengmon beach is only one kilometer. Keep this in mind when choosing a hotel in the area, so as not to end up in a hotel located far from the beach.
The beach is hidden in a small bay that protects it from winds and waves. The sand here is very fine and white. The water is very clear. The bottom quickly goes under the water, and there are no big surprises from the tides here.
But more than sand and water, this beach differs from others in its setting. This is a very quiet and peaceful place, with no night entertainment at all. Apart from hotels, restaurants and a few shops for the essentials, there is nothing else here. Therefore, we can recommend this beach to those who want to be in peace and quiet. And for entertainment, you can go to the nearby Chaweng Beach at any time.
-
Taling Ngam Beach
Taling Ngam This one of the quietest and most secluded beaches of the island is located in the southwestern part of the west coast (Taling Ngam beach on the map). In addition, according to tourists who have visited this beach, this place is the most consistent with the beach ideal of "Bounty".
But, unfortunately, the ideal beach corresponds only during high tides, and until you try to go into the water. Due to the shallow depth and gentle profile of the bottom, during low tide the water goes far away, leaving natural debris, usually hidden under water. The whole bottom is littered with algae, rocks and corals. Therefore, when planning a trip to this beach, it is best to take care in advance and find out the schedule of tides so that the low tide falls at night. Although, in general, the beach is very clean, the water is clear, the sand is fine and pleasant.
Most of the hotels here are very expensive, but there is also medium-level accommodation. There is no life outside of hotels and beaches. Even for inexpensive groceries or drinks you will have to get by transport.
-
Chaweng Noi Beach
Chaweng Noi Beach Some people think that Chaweng Noi Beach is just the southern part of Chaweng Beach. This is not so. Chaweng Noi is an independent beach, "little Chaweng", continuing the east coast of the island south of Chaweng Beach (Chaweng Noi beach on the map). It is a small bay with a length of about one kilometer.
The sand on the beach is very fine and white. The bottom goes under the water just so that strong waves do not form and the influence of tides is minimal. The water is very clean and suitable for simple snorkeling.
Despite the fact that the most noisy and cheerful area of Chaweng Island is located next door, Chaweng Noi is almost always quiet and peaceful. The line along the beach is studded with hotels and there are no entertainment night spots here. For fun on Chaweng, you can get poisoned even on foot.
-
Nathon (Nathon)
A street in Naton Naton, to put it mildly, is not the best place for a real "beachgoer". We can say that Nathon is the business center of the island, and the beach is just an annex to it, and the worst. Honestly, it's hard to find reasons why it's worth staying here, but, nevertheless, tourists often settle here in order to hang out and have fun. Although, probably, there is one plus point - low prices.
The sand on the beaches here is fine and pleasant, but the bottom is very shallow and at low tide diverts the water line for almost a kilometer. They say that at high tide the beach turns into quite decent, and you can swim here, but because of the dirt and debris, hardly anyone here will be pulled into the water.
