The cheapest way to get to Koh Samui is to use a ferry, because flying by plane, although much more convenient, is disproportionately expensive.   This is the fastest and most convenient way to get to Koh Samui by water, but also the most expensive.   A slow passenger night ferry runs once a day between the Ban Don pier in the center of Surat Thani (cm. on the map) and Nathon pier. This is the only overnight ferry from the mainland to Koh Samui, so if you arrive late, this is the only way to continue the journey, and not stay overnight in Surat Thani.

Koh Samui Piers

• Nathon Marina

  

  This main and busiest marina on the island is located in the main city of the island - Naton, on the west coast. Rather, there are three marinas here at once, and all of them are close to each other. In most cases, this is the most convenient place to arrive on the island, and therefore most tourists use this pier. Immediately upon arrival, you can rent motorbikes here, find a hotel through an agency, book excursions, taxis, buy tickets for the return ferry, train, plane and anything else. The agencies are located across the street from the marina.

  Ferries arrive here from the mainland from Suratani, from the islands of Phangan and Tao. Several companies work at once: Seatran Discovery, Songserm, Lamprayah. All of them differ slightly in comfort, speed of movement and places of dispatch. However, as we mentioned above, it does not matter in principle to know where they are coming from, since all these companies offer transfers from bus and train stations, from Surat Thani Airport, from the city center, and so on.   How to get there, transportation: Transport is well developed here, and immediately upon arrival you can most economically get to the desired beach/area on Koh Samui. Every arriving ferry is met by a bunch of taxi drivers and minibus drivers (songteo), so there is always something to choose from. Moreover, prices drop sharply, it is only necessary to move a little away from the pier. So, right when you get off the ferry, you will be offered a trip by songteo to Chaweng Beach for 200 baht, but it's worth walking 100 meters, as the price tag halves. The correct price since April 2014 is 100 baht for a trip to any beach on the ring road (these are the beaches of Lamai, Chaweng, Chaweng-noi, Boput, Maenam). Also right here you can rent a motorcycle for the entire period of your stay on the island (there is a rental at the marina itself and at agencies across the street from it).

• Raja Ferry Pier

  

  The Raja Ferry pier is also called Lipa Noi Pier because it is located in the area and on the Lipa Noi beach. This is the only international pier on Koh Samui.

  Large cargo ferries from the mainland arrive here from the Don Sak Pier. They can be used to cross passengers, transport vehicles and any cargo. But the inconvenience for passengers is that the marina is located far from the popular beaches of Koh Samui, and transport here, alas, is not very well developed.

  How to get there, transportation: When the ferry arrives on the island, minivans and fixed-route taxis await passengers. A trip from here to the popular beaches of Lamai and Chaweng will cost 200 baht.

• Lomprayah Pier

  

  Lomprayah, in addition to Nathon Pier, uses its pier on Maenam Beach for routes to Phangan and Tao Islands, and composite routes from Bangkok and Hua Hin to Koh Samui.

• Bang Rak Pier

  

  This pier is also sometimes called Big Buddha Pier. This is the company pier of Seatran Dsicovery. The marina is mainly used to get to the islands of Phangan and Tao, but the company also provides a comprehensive transfer to the mainland and resorts in the Andaman Sea.

• Petcherat Marina Pier

  

  This marina is also located on Bang Rak (Big Budda) beach. Its main purpose is not the budget transportation of passengers by ferries, but offers of yachts and boats for rent, mooring of private yachts, etc. But even ordinary tourists can go on a tour to the Ang Thong Marine Park from here, on Lomlahkkhirin speedboats to the islands of Phangan and Tao. The price is high: Phangan in one direction 900 baht, round trip 1600 baht.

• Bo Phut Marina
