Description and is it worth a visit
Huay Kaew Waterfall is a small beautiful waterfall, located away from large settlements and 25 kilometers from the city of Changrai, very close to the village Akha Hill house. Getting here is not very easy, because it is located in the mountains, and only a dirt road leads to it, plus you still have to climb the trail on foot. On the way to it, you can easily get lost, so use the navigator and offline maps, follow strictly to the coordinates that we have on the map at the end of the article.
The waterfall consists of two rapids, the first is 15 meters high, the second is 40 meters high. It is full of water all year round, even in the dry season. A simple path leads directly to it through the forest to the ascent, and here it is even more interesting not the waterfall itself, but the route to it. On the way up the trail there will be a branch to the middle waterfall, where locals like to have picnics, you can join them and chat.
Even on the way here you will pass through tea plantations, which is quite rare for Thailand. In general, it is best to combine a trip to Huai Kai with a visit to the hot springs Huay Mark Liam and Pha Soet Hot Spring, and you can also visit one of the elephant farms on the ferry bank of the Kok River. In general, we advise you to come here by road on the right side of the Kok River, and leave on the other side. Then you will have quite an exciting day trip from Chiang Rai with a visit to interesting places in an almost protected area through forests and hills.

🚶 How to get there
The waterfall is located 25 kilometers from Chiang Rai in a mountainous wooded area (Huay Kaew waterfall on the map). As far as we know, group tours are not carried here, and you can't get there by taxi either. Therefore, you can get here only by rented transport or with a guide by transport by agreement. You need to take the road along the right or left bank of the Kok River to the Pha Soet hot springs, and turn off the road to the left near the Wat Phasoet Wanaram temple, there is a small wooden signpost. Then drive along the winding asphalt road to the village, where you will get to a gravel primer, and there turn right. After driving along the tea fields, you will get to the beginning of the trail to the waterfall. Here you can leave the transport for free, and then walk to the waterfall 10-20 minutes with a climb of 100 meters.
To travel here in Chiang Rai, you can rent a car from 1000 baht (30 USD, money of Thailand, exchange rate) or motorcycle from 250 baht (7.5 USD), more details about transport in Chiang Rai told here...
