Pattaya doesn't have just one "party street" — there are several, and each has its own character. Your choice depends on what kind of evening you're looking for: glamorous, explicit, welcoming, or laid-back. We highlight four main spots on the nightlife map:

Walking Street — the heart of nightlife

This street is the main magnet for tourists from all over the world. By day it looks like an ordinary road, but at sunset it's closed to traffic and turns into a sea of neon, music, and people. Walking along it is free — you only pay for drinks or show entry. Honestly, even if you're not a fan of noisy parties, it's worth walking through at least once. The carnival atmosphere and universal cheerfulness are contagious.

Walking Street is home to hundreds of bars, from small "beer bars" to massive clubs with multiple dance floors. It's also where many sex shows (more on them below) and cabarets are located. The real action starts after 9:00 PM, when the street fills to capacity. Keep an eye on your bags and pockets — crowds are crowds.

Pattaya Soi 6 — the city's most explicit street

If Walking Street is a tourist attraction you can even visit with kids (early in the evening), Soi 6 is a completely different story. This is a short street between Beach Road and Second Road, lined with open bar counters. Everything here is as direct and explicit as it gets. People come here not to stroll or take photos against neon signs, but for very specific entertainment. The atmosphere is relaxed, but not suitable for family viewing. Soi 6 starts getting active as early as 1:00 PM and quiets down by 10:00 PM.

Jomtien: its own Walking Street and Rompho Street

The Jomtien area offers a calmer alternative to the center. There are two main party streets here:

Jomtien Walking Street

This is a small street (just a few hundred meters), but it's packed with bars and clubs, most of which cater to the LGBT community. Entry is free, the atmosphere is friendly. You can just sit with a cocktail, watch a cabaret show (often free with a drink order), and enjoy the evening without excessive hassle.

Rompho Street

An alternative bar center in Jomtien. Here bars are packed tightly together with a wide range of music — from rock to house. Almost everywhere has pool tables, and they're free to play with a drink order. The atmosphere here is more relaxed than in the center, perfect for long beer sessions. The main crowd is European retirees, but you'll also see younger tourists. At the start of the street is the Rompho indoor market and a night street market — worth checking out before or after the bars.

Boyz Town — Pattaya's gay quarter

This quarter is located on Pattayaland Soi 3, just 400 meters from Walking Street. Founded back in the 1980s, it remains the center of nightlife for the LGBT community. There are many bars, clubs, and cabarets with vibrant shows. Entry to bars is free, you only pay for drinks. Even if you don't identify with this community, it's worth a look just out of curiosity — it's safe and friendly here.

Cabaret shows: Tiffany, Alcazar and Colosseum

Cabaret shows are Pattaya's hallmark. But don't turn up your nose: this isn't what you might think. These are bright, professional, colorful musical dance performances that are suitable for the whole family. We believe that seeing at least one is a must. And if you're staying in Jomtien, check out Colosseum — it's the closest.

Tiffany's Show

Opened in 1974, this was the first cabaret show of its kind in Southeast Asia. A 1000-seat theater, over 100 performers, 75 minutes of spectacular productions — from traditional Thai dance to K-pop. In 2011, the show ranked 4th in the world among cabarets. Photos and videos are not allowed during the performance, but after the show, the artists pose outside (tips — 100 baht).

Alcazar Cabaret

Alcazar is a direct competitor to Tiffany's. The theater seats 1200, the program also lasts 75 minutes and includes similar acts. According to reviews, Alcazar is slightly more dynamic and modern. The choice between them is a matter of taste and location (both are on Second Road, not far from each other).

Colosseum Show Pattaya

Colosseum Show is one of the newest and largest cabaret shows in Pattaya, opened in 2013. The theater is built as an exact architectural replica of the Roman Colosseum, with fountains and ancient columns outside and a luxurious baroque interior inside. The hall seats 1000, the show lasts 75 minutes and includes 14–16 vibrant acts. The program combines traditional Thai dances, modern music, and elements from various cultures. Photos and videos are not allowed during the show, but after the performance, the artists come outside where you can take photos together (tips — 100–200 baht). The show is located on Thepprasit Road, which is especially convenient for tourists staying in Jomtien or Pratamnak.

Sex shows: what they are and where to watch

Pattaya is known far beyond Thailand for its adult shows. These are not go-go bars, but separate performances where participants (mostly women) demonstrate incredible "acrobatic" acts. They're called ping-pong shows or faking shows. The stunts are truly mind-blowing, but fair warning: these shows are not for children or for people with sensitive stomachs.

All such shows can be divided into two types:

1. Street clubs on Walking Street and in the center

These are held in small halls, often semi-legally. Touts with pictures and descriptions in Russian will offer you to visit them at every step. Just read carefully so you don't accidentally end up somewhere you didn't intend (for example, a show with boys if that's not what you're looking for).

2. Large theatrical shows

These are more professional productions with music, storylines, and sets in large halls. They're often sold as ready-made tours with hotel transfers. The most popular venues of this type:

They're easy to find on maps and read reviews. Tickets for such shows are cheaper when bought online or at street travel agencies — box office prices are higher.

Safety and how to avoid being scammed

Tourist scams are as much a part of Pattaya's nightlife as neon and music. The good news: all the schemes are well-known. The bad news: people still fall for them. We've gathered the most common traps and explain how to avoid them. Not to scare you, but so you spend your evening having fun, not arguing with bouncers.

Inflated bar bill

One of the most common schemes in Pattaya bars is when the bill turns out to be much higher than expected. They bring you a bill with drinks you didn't order, or just multiply the prices by 2–5. Sometimes they add a "cover charge" or "entertainment tax" of 500–1000 baht per person. Security won't let you leave until you pay.

What to do:

• Every bar has a plastic cup — that's the bill bin. All order slips are put in there. Keep it in front of you and count before paying.
• Always ask the price before ordering and ask about hidden charges.
• Better to pay for each drink separately than to open a tab.
• If the bill is inflated — don't panic. Ask for the menu and recalculate. As a last resort, call the tourist police at 1155.

"Free" show

Touts promise "free entry" or "free show." You go in — and then it turns out the cocktail costs 500 baht, and there's a big bouncer at the exit. There's no such thing as a free show.

What to do:

• Before entering, clarify all conditions: entry cost, drink prices, if there's a minimum order requirement.
• Ignore overly persistent touts. If someone is pulling you inside too aggressively — that's a bad sign.
• Read reviews of the venue online.

Expensive lady drinks

In go-go bars, it's customary to buy drinks for the girls (lady drinks). The price of such a drink can be 3–5 times higher than usual. The girls drink quickly and ask for more — the bill grows before your eyes.

What to do:

• Always ask the price of a lady drink before ordering.
• Don't hesitate to refuse if the price seems too high.
• Remember: the girls get a commission from every drink ordered, so they'll try to order as many as possible.

Card fraud

In some establishments, more is charged to your card than you owe. The cashier might "accidentally" enter an extra zero or charge you twice.

What to do:

• Always take a photo of the menu with prices before ordering — this is your proof in case of a dispute.
• Carefully check the amount on the terminal before entering your PIN.
• Check the amount on the receipt and in your mobile banking app immediately after payment.
• If you notice an error — don't leave until it's sorted out. Demand to speak to the manager.
• If possible, pay in cash — it's safer.

Pickpockets in crowds

During peak hours on Walking Street, pickpockets are active. They choose moments when you're distracted by a show or just pushing through the crowd. They most often steal wallets from back pockets and phones from hands.

What to do:

• Keep your bag or backpack in front of you.
• Don't carry your wallet in your back pocket.
• Don't flash cash in the crowd.
• Only bring minimal valuables with you.
• If you're robbed, immediately call the tourist police at 1155.

Practical tips

• Start early: If you want to see the streets without the crazy crowds, go out around 6:00–7:00 PM.
• Bring cash: Bars and show entrances don't always accept cards. Better to have baht with you.
• Bargain: This especially applies to sex show prices. The initial price is almost always inflated, and you can knock it down by 1.5–2 times.
• Don't drink too much: Alcohol and unfamiliar surroundings are not the best friends. Keep an eye on your belongings.
• Take photos of menus: Always take a photo of the page with prices before ordering — it's the best insurance against inflated bills.
• Don't buy food from street stalls on Walking Street: Prices are higher, and quality can be disappointing.
• Use taxis or songthaews: After midnight, finding transport is harder. Book Grab or Bolt, or arrange with a taxi driver in advance.
• Check the bill bin: Count every slip before paying.
• Don't leave drinks unattended: Only drink what was poured in front of you.
