• Museum-Reserve Shchelokovsky Khutor

  

  The architectural and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve Shchelokovsky Khutor is also called the "Museum of wooden architecture" or simply "Shchelkovsky Khutor". • Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum

  

  It is one of the oldest regional museums, located in two buildings: one on the territory of the Kremlin, the other in a 10 – minute walk on Verkhnevolzhskaya embankment Street, 3. each of the buildings presents its own theme: on the territory of the Kremlin of domestic art of the 14-20 centuries, and on the Verkhnevolzhskaya embankment-Western European art. • Museum of the history of Arts and crafts

  

  The exposition of this small and quiet museum tells about the folk crafts of the Russian people and the Nizhny Novgorod region in particular. • Technical Museum

  

  The collection of this museum was personally collected by one person-collector and philanthropist Vyacheslav Khurtin, who for 20 years collected and restored more than 2000 exhibits. • Russian Museum of photography

  

  The museum is dedicated to the history of Russian photography. • Rukavishnikov estate and historical and architectural museum

  

  It is one of the most important architectural monuments of the city. This estate, on a scale rather resembling a palace, belonged to the family of the owner of a steel mill and a large usurer - interest-bearing Rukavishnikov. Initially, it was just a house that Rukavishnikov got for debts, but his heir created from it a real palace in the style of an Italian palazzo. • Museum of technology and defense industry in Victory Park

  

  Although during the Great Patriotic War there were no battles on the territory of the then City of Gorky, 56 military units and formations, 72 detachments of the people's militia were formed here. In honor of the 40th anniversary of the victory, the Victory Park and the Open-Air Museum of technology and defense industry were laid.   🚶 How to get there: Victory Park is located on the embankment of the rowing canal, Ulyanov STR., 36-B (Victory Park on the map). This is not the most convenient place to get to by public transport, but on foot it is not so far. Directly to the main entrance to the park there is a bus number A5 (goes very rarely), or you can get to the Sennoy Square and from there 15-20 minutes on foot. • Museum "Locomotives Of Russia"

  

  In this open-air museum you can see 15 steam locomotives produced in pre-revolutionary Russia, the USSR and abroad, and operated on Soviet railways in the early and mid-20th century. In some locomotives you can climb and take a picture on the driver's seat.

• Museum of urban electric transport

  

  This is another open-air museum dedicated to trams and trolleybuses. On the open area there are 9 old trams and two trolleybuses, all of them worked in Nizhny Novgorod. • Museum of the factory "Krasnoe Sormovo"

  

  The Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard is one of the oldest shipbuilding enterprises in Russia. The 166-year history of the shipyard is dedicated to this museum operating at the enterprise. Despite the fact that most of these museums at the factories are boring places, this is an exception. • House-Museum of Gorky's childhood (Kashirin's House)

• Gorky Museum-apartment

Guides say that all the things here are authentic, and really belonged to Gorky, and then were transferred to the museum by his wife.

  In the center of the city on Minin and Pozharsky Square is a small museum, a branch of the Pushkin Museum-estate in Boldino (not to be confused with the main museum in Boldino). It is located in the former hotel rooms in which the poet lived for only two days in 1833. • Nikolskaya Tower Museum

• Ivanovo Tower Museum

  

  Here is the exposition "feat of National Unity", dedicated to the Nizhny Novgorod militia of the late 16th – early 17th centuries (time of troubles).   This small modest museum is located in the apartment in which Academician Sakharov and his family spent 7 years from 1980 to 1987, being in political exile for his human rights activities. However, the academician is known to the whole world, first of all, as the father of the hydrogen bomb, and not a human rights activist. It is located in a residential building and occupies two apartments. One of them recreates the situation of the period when the scientist lived there, and it is worth saying that it is not much different from the situation of some provincial apartments today. In another apartment there is an exposition telling about the life and work of Sakharov, mainly consisting of documents and photographs. In general, this place will not be very interesting to an ordinary tourist, so you should go here only if you have too much time. But interestingly, foreign tourists sometimes visit the museum, since the world-famous lonelyplanet guidebook has included it among the most significant sights of Nizhny Novgorod.
