Museum of the River Fleet in Nizhny Novgorod is a thematic museum on the fourth floor of the building of the Volga State Academy of Water Transport, dedicated to the history of navigation on the Volga. Despite the fact that tourists traditionally treat museums operating at institutions or enterprises with little interest, this museum is an exception. There is a huge and interesting exposition of models of ships and ships, authentic items from ships, documents, photographs, models of engines and steam engines and much more in seven halls of different subjects.
In general, this is a place worth visiting, especially if you are at least a little interested in technology. It is especially interesting to inspect it under the stories of museum employees who offer guided tours for a fee of 500 rubles per group. But even if you do not agree to the tour, they will still give you a small introductory excursion about the history of shipping on the Volga, and then you will be able to inspect the exposition yourself, especially since there are information signs for the exhibits. What is inconvenient, the museum is open only on weekdays during working hours, and before visiting it, it is better to call 8 (831) 419-87-86 and arrange a visit and an excursion. And also, be sure to bring your passport or other document with you, as you will have to issue a pass to the academy.
🕐 Working hours: from 09:00 to 16:00, Saturday and Sunday are closed.
💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: adults - 150 rubles, schoolchildren and pensioners - 75 rubles, preschoolers - free of charge. Excursion support - 500 rubles. Payment in cash only.
🚶 How to get there: located on the 4th floor of the building of the Volga State Academy of Water Transport, Minina str., 7/Piskunov 55 (museum on the map). From the Kremlin and Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, it's a 20-minute walk here, or you can get there by buses or trams. This is not a commercial or even a state tourist museum, so you will have to go through the entrance of the academy to visit, for which you first need to issue a pass with a passport or other document, which takes a few minutes.
Attention! At the time of writing this guide, the museum is scheduled to move to a new building in 2021, but a new location has not been determined. Check it before visiting the museum group - https://vk.com/muzeivolgarya.
