Pitsunda is located 63 kilometers from the border crossing on the border with the Russian Federation and somewhat away from the main highway of Abkhazia, along which all other resorts of the country are located (Pitsunda on the map of Abkhazia). You can get here only by land by bus or car, and it is also possible to get by train to Gagra or Sukhum, and then transfer to a local bus or order a taxi. By plane you can get to Pitsunda through Adler airport (Sochi).
It is best for Russian citizens to get to Pitsunda and Abkhazia in general from the territory of the Russian Federation through the Psou checkpoint in Adler using an internal passport, and in no case present a foreign passport, since a note in the foreign passport about crossing the border of the Russian Federation-Abkhazia can bring serious problems with a subsequent visit to Georgia (see more about this How to get to Abkhazia). If you want to get here officially from the point of view of the Georgian authorities, then this can be done only with a foreign passport after obtaining the appropriate permits through the Inguri checkpoint on the border with Georgia.
Below are all the ways to get to Pitsunda on your own, and you may also find the following information useful:
Pitsunda by plane
There is no functioning airport in Abkhazia, you can get here by plane only through the nearest Adler airport (airport on the map). It operates many flights from the regions of the Russian Federation, especially in the high season (in summer). From the regions you can fly directly or through Moscow on convenient connections. It is better to buy tickets in advance, because in high season they increase, there are few tickets left.

How to get from the airport to Pitsunda
To get from Adler airport to Pitsunda, you will first have to get to the PSOU checkpoint at the border (about 10 kilometers), go through passport and customs control there, and then go to Pitsunda (about 60 kilometers). There is no through transport on this route, you will have to change trains. Taxi drivers at the airport are not very willing to go this way either. Therefore, if you want to get there quickly and without transfers, it is best to order a tourist transfer. The driver of the car will meet you at the airport and take you across the border to the hotel. You can check prices and book such a transfer through the search form:
If the budget does not allow you to order a transfer, you can use the following ways to get to Pitsunda from the airport yourself and inexpensively:
By bus
From the airport you can get by bus number 173, to the PSOU checkpoint, cross the border on foot, and then take a minibus to Pitsunda. Taxis to Pitsunda depart in the daytime from the forecourt (bus station) after the checkpoint on the side of Abkhazia, not to be confused with the Russian side. From the bus station, buses go to all popular resorts, including Pitsunda. They are sent from 7:00 to about 21:00, they are sent by filling approximately every 20-30 minutes. The fare is 150 rubles, about an hour on the way. Also, these buses, or rather minibuses, go through the areas of Pitsunda Boxwood Grove, the village of Ldzaa (Lidzava), Fish Factory (see for more information about hotels and areas of Pitsunda where to stay).
By train from the airport
Attention! The movement of electric trains along the route is suspended. Check the renewal information in the schedule.
You can not get directly to the village by train, but you can change in Gagra from the train to the bus (minibus). To do this, first from the airport you need to get to the railway station Adler on the train "Lastochka" (46 USD), or buses No. 105, 105C, 131, 535 (30-60 minutes on the way). There you need to transfer to an electric train or a passing long-distance train to Gagra. The train costs 250 rubles, 2 hours on the way, departs at 07:38 and 14:10 daily. You can check the schedule on the website Yandex. schedules.
At the railway station in Gagra, you will have to get out and walk to the main road Demerdzhipa Street, where you can take a passing minibus directly to Pitsunda.
Pitsunda by train
You can get to Pitsunda by train only through Gagra or Sukhum, it is more convenient, of course, through Gagra. Trains run to Gagra in summer from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Belgorod, Samara. If there are no trains from your region, then you can take the train to the railway station of Adler, and there transfer to the train or bus to Sukhum or other resorts. Schedules and the cost of train tickets can be found on the official website Russian Railways.
If you arrive by train at the railway station in Gagra, then from there you need to walk 100 meters to the stop on the main street of Demerdzhip, where you can take passing taxis or a large city bus to Pitsunda. They go in the daytime about every 20-30 minutes, cost 50-100 rubles. You will need routes directly to Pitsunda or designated to the "fish factory".
If you do not want to change after the train to public transport, you can find a taxi at the station, the cost is about 500 rubles to the door of the hotel.
Pitsunda by bus
Unfortunately, regular buses to Pitsunda from the cities of the Russian Federation do not exist. At least we (the authors of the site) could not find them. Therefore, it is most convenient to get here by bus with a transfer through Gagra (see how to get to Gagra).
In Pitsunda in the summer from the regions of the Russian Federation you can get on special tourist buses, or on long-distance buses. Travel by bus is a little cheaper than by train, but in terms of convenience and time is much inferior, so we recommend using this option only as a last resort.
You can also take a bus through Sochi (Adler). Local city buses run from the cities of Greater Sochi to the border with Abkhazia (PSOU checkpoint) :
- #125 (from the center of Sochi via Khosta, Kudepstu, Adler)
- No. 173 (from Sochi airport, Adler, Kudepsta)
- No. 117, No. 100 (Kudepsta, Adler railway station)
- No. 134 (Khosta, Kudepsta, Adler railway station)
Buses reach the checkpoint at the border or stop near it, then you can get on foot. After crossing the border on the other side there is a parking lot of local taxis, which can take you to Pitsunda. They are poisoned every 20-30 minutes by occupancy, cost from 150 rubles, about an hour on the road.
Pitsunda by car
You can get to Pitsunda by car only through the PSOU checkpoint, which is located on the border with the Russian Federation (PSOU checkpoint on the map) in the Krasnodar Territory, Sochi, Adler district, Veseloe settlement. The road to the border runs along the Black Sea coast through the cities of Greater Sochi, and this is the only way here. If you have never been to Sochi, then keep in mind that the section from Dzhubga to the checkpoint is a very difficult mountain winding road. Its length is 200 kilometers, but you can drive it in 5-6 hours with good weather and a free highway. Gasoline on this site is consumed decently. After passing the border at the checkpoint to the city will drive only 60 kilometers on a flat good road.

Transport in Pitsunda, what to move around the city
There is no public transport, except for taxis and a bus from Gagra, in Pitsunda. You can move around the city on foot, it is not so big, but if you stop in one of the remote areas, for example Ldzaa (Fish Factory), Agaraki, Alakhadze, poultry farm, etc., then you will have to get to the center of the village, where shops, market and other infrastructure are located, you will have to take a taxi.
