How to Get to Phan Thiet and Mui Ne from Nha Trang

Overview of ways to get there, and which way is better

Nha Trang and Mui Ne (Phan Thiet) are separated by 220 kilometers. You can get from one resort to another by plane via Ho Chi Minh City airport, by train, bus, or taxi.

🚌 In our opinion, the most optimal way both in terms of price and time is traveling by bus. Moreover, you can even use a night journey, and then you also save on hotel accommodation. However, for this, you will have to check out of the hotel in advance (usually this is 12:00 noon), walk around Nha Trang, and then take a night bus in the evening. You will arrive in Mui Ne or Phan Thiet early in the morning, and here again you will have to walk around until check-in time, which is usually 14:00. But fortunately, in Vietnam, you can easily leave your luggage at the hotel reception before check-in or after you check out. Well, if you're lucky and your room is ready earlier, they may let you check in a few hours earlier without extra charge.

🚖 You can get there faster than by bus by taxi, but it's more expensive. However, if you are traveling in a group or a large family, it will be only slightly more expensive than a bus and clearly cheaper than by plane. And another important plus - they will pick you up from the hotel and take you to the desired place, and you won't have to make transfers on local transport or use a taxi additionally for trips to/from stations.

🚆 In our opinion, the train is also not very suitable for moving from Nha Trang to Mui Ne or Phan Thiet. Firstly, it costs noticeably more than traveling by bus. And secondly, the railway station in Phan Thiet is very inconveniently located and far away, and moving from it will also take time and a considerable amount of money.

✈ As for the plane, although it is faster in itself, considering the time required to get to the airport, check-in time for the flight, and then the transfer from Ho Chi Minh City airport to the resort, in the end, it may even take longer than a bus or taxi. Therefore, we do not even recommend considering such an option.

🚖 By taxi

• 💵 Cost: from $70 / 70 USD.
• ⏲ Travel time: 3-5 hours

A taxi ride from Nha Trang or Nha Trang airport will cost from $70 US for a car for up to 4 people, travel time 3-5 hours. You can find a car at the counter at the airport (more expensive), or outside the airport (cheaper, you can even bargain down to $80). There will be no problems finding a taxi willing to take you from Nha Trang to Mui Ne, and practically the first taxi driver you come across will organize everything for you, but it's better to arrange the trip in advance, at least a day or two before departure.

You can also book a taxi transfer in advance on sites kiwitaxi or intui.travel, or through this form, and then the driver will meet you at Nha Trang airport upon arrival or pick you up at the hotel at the appointed time:

• 💵 Cost: from 200,000 dong / 7.6 USD.
• ⏲ Travel time: 5-6 hours

From Nha Trang directly to Mui Ne, sleeper buses Hanh Cafe and Techbus run, travel time 5-6 hours. The buses go to their offices in the center of the resort area, from where it is easy to get to the hotel by taxi, city bus #1, or even on foot. Price from 200,000 dong directly from the companies, or from 300,000 when purchased at travel agencies including transfer to the bus station from the hotel. Schedule and ticket booking are available on 12go.asia, but Russian cards are not accepted for booking. If you don't have a foreign card, then you can buy tickets in Nha Trang at company offices, at street travel agencies, or at hotels.

More buses run from Nha Trang to the main bus station of Phan Thiet, from where you can get to your vacation spot by taxi or city buses. But in terms of time, this will be an additional 1-2 hours on the road.

🚆 By train

• 💵 Cost: from 178,000 dong / 6.76 rub. + taxi from 450,000 dong or buses 40,000 dong.
• ⏲ Travel time: 5 hours + 2 hours

15 kilometers from Phan Thiet is Binh Thuan railway station, this is the former Muong Man station (Binh Thuan railway station on the map of Phan Thiet).

Several daily trains run from Nha Trang here:

• SE7. Departure – 09:53, arrival – 13:56. Tickets from 178,000 for seated tickets.
• SE21. Departure – 18:56, arrival – 23:31. Tickets from 234,000 for seated tickets.
• SE5. Departure – 20:19, arrival – 01:14. Tickets from 211,000 for seated tickets.
• SE3. Departure – 21:39, arrival – 01:53. Tickets from 236,000 for seated tickets.
• SE1. Departure – 22:42, arrival – 03:06. Tickets from 215,000 for seated tickets.
• Tickets in sleeping compartments are 2-3 times higher.

We remind you that the schedule, cost, and ticket availability are best checked on the official website of Vietnam Railways - https://dsvn.vn/, but it is impossible to buy tickets with Russian cards there. When you get to Phan Thiet by train, it remains to get to the resort area of Mui Ne or Bikini Beach by taxi or city buses. A taxi will cost from 450,000 dong (17.1 USD) when ordering through Grab or Maxim apps, and a bit more expensive if you catch a car on the spot.

Instead of a taxi, you can travel budget-friendly by city buses with a transfer, but such an option is suitable only for experienced travelers with a backpack. At the stop near the railway station, you need to take bus #9 to the center of Phan Thiet, get off at Coop Mart shopping center. Then near Coop Mart you need to cross the road, where to wait for bus #1 to Mui Ne or bus #6 to the resort area of Phan Thiet Thien Tanh and Bikini Beach.

Here is information about these buses:

• Bus #9. Goes past Binh Thuan railway station and past Phan Thiet Railway Station, and further to the city center. Runs from 5:30 to 18:30 every 30-40 minutes. Cost 8000 – 35,000 dong.

• Bus #1. This is the most popular and convenient route for tourists, as it passes through the entire resort area of Mui Ne and to the center of Phan Thiet. Fare is 8000-20000 depending on the distance. Runs from 05:30 to 19:00 every 20-30 minutes.

• Bus #6. These buses depart from the center of Phan Thiet from Lotte Mart shopping center, pass by Coop Mart, and then go through the resort area of Thien Tanh and Bikini Beach to Ke Ga lighthouse. They run every 30-40 minutes from 6:00 to 18:00, fare is 8,000 – 25,000 dong.
