How to Get to Phan Thiet and Mui Ne from Hanoi

From Hanoi to Mui Ne, you can get by plane (via Ho Chi Minh City or Nha Trang airport), by train, or by tourist bus. Flying by plane is the fastest and not that expensive way in itself, but then you will have to get from the airport to Mui Ne by taxi, which increases the cost of this method by $100. ✈ By plane

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are the largest cities in Vietnam, and they are connected by very frequent air service: planes depart at intervals of 15-60 minutes. Flights are operated both by the country's main airline Vietnam Airlines and by budget airlines (see all airlines of Vietnam). The cost of flights is acceptable, especially if you purchase a ticket in advance. For example, promotional ticket prices for VietJet Airlines start from $35 one way including all fees.

However, to get to Mui Ne, you don't have to fly specifically to Ho Chi Minh City airport. Nha Trang airport is located at about the same distance, and you can fly there as well. The only problem is that there are no inexpensive direct minivans from Nha Trang airport to Mui Ne, so from there you will have no alternative but to spend money on a taxi.

Ho Chi Minh City airport is 200 kilometers from Mui Ne (Ho Chi Minh City airport on interactive map), and upon arrival, you will have to get to the hotel in Mui Ne or Phan Thiet by taxi for $70-120.

You can get there cheaper by direct minivans from the airport, and even cheaper by scheduled buses with a transfer in the city center, but it can take almost a whole day in terms of time. 🚆 By train

• 💵 Cost: from 1,134,000 dong for the train (43.1 USD) + fare by taxi or bus to Mui Ne
• ⏲ Travel time: 1 day 10 hours

There is no railway station in Mui Ne, but 30 kilometers away is Binh Thuan station (formerly Muong Man) (Binh Thuan railway station on the map of Phan Thiet). All trains from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City pass through this station, four of them stop here. The train from Hanoi takes from 1 day 8 hours.

Train tickets are not cheap. Seated tickets currently cost at least 892,000 dong, sleeping berths on the top bunk from 1,134,000 dong. Of course, we do not recommend considering a journey of more than a day in seated tickets at all. Tickets should be purchased in advance a few days before, although sometimes you can buy them just before departure, it depends on luck. We remind you that the schedule, cost, and ticket availability are best checked on the official website of Vietnam Railways - https://dsvn.vn/, but it is impossible to buy tickets with Russian cards there. If you do not have a foreign card, you will have to buy tickets at station ticket offices or at street travel agencies.

When you arrive at the railway station, you can get to Mui Ne by taxi from 450,000 dong (17.1 USD) when ordering through Grab or Maxim apps, and a bit more expensive if you catch a car on the spot. Instead of a taxi, you can travel budget-friendly by buses, but this is only suitable for train SE7 with daytime arrival. To do this, you need to take bus #9 to the center of Phan Thiet, get off there near Coop Mart shopping center, and transfer to bus #1 to Mui Ne or bus #6 to the resort area of Phan Thiet Thien Tanh and Bikini Beach. 🚌 By bus

• ⏲ Travel time: 1 day 5 hours

From Hanoi, you can get to Mui Ne by tourist and scheduled buses. This is an inexpensive way, but also the most dangerous and uncomfortable. Buses "fly" on the roads like "mad", and you will have to travel for more than a day, and also with transfers. You won't have to worry about transfers, as connections (if the carrier has them) are included in the ticket. In such cases, in Nha Trang or another city along the way, you will be organizedly moved to another bus, and you will continue your journey. Buses are not as comfortable as trains, but nevertheless, the seats in them are fully reclining (Sleeper bus). Tickets for them are purchased at travel agencies in the tourist area of Hanoi or at hotels.

Depending on the purchased ticket, in Mui Ne you will be brought to a bus station near Mui Ne village, taken to the hotel door, or delivered to Phan Thiet bus station. This needs to be clarified when purchasing, and very carefully and several times, as they may well give incorrect information about the arrival point.
