Transportation of Phan Thiet and Mui Ne and what to use to get around

Article and Section Navigation

One of the best ways to get around in Mui Ne is to rent a motorcycle

The resort area of Mui Ne stretches along the coast and the main street Nguyen Dinh Chieu for more than 10 kilometers, and to the center of Phantet it is already 20 kilometers, and at least as much further towards the White Dunes. But there is also a resort area with a length of more than 20 kilometers on the other side of Phan Thiet towards Tien Tan village and Bikini Beach, so in summary, if we talk about Phan Thiet and Mui ne as a whole, the total length of the entire beach and resort area here is about 60 kilometers. So it will not be easy for independent travelers to do without transport here. We tell you in detail about all the ways, how and on what you can move around Phan Thiet and Mui Ne, and about urban transport.

On foot

It is quite possible to travel short distances here on foot, for example, to walk from the hotel to the beach, to the nearest cafe or shop. However, this works only in the most developed and more or less infrastructure-rich part of the resort area of Mui Ne. If you do not stop in the center, then there will be nowhere to walk on foot.

In the center of Mui Ne, you can walk along the sidewalks

But to be honest, then directly in the resort area of Mui Ne with hiking is not so simple. Unfortunately, in the eastern part of the resort (this is the side that is closer to the village of Mui Ne itself) there are no sidewalks, the roads are broken, walking is very uncomfortable. And the exits to the shore in many places are blocked by the territories of hotels and continuous chains of shops. So if you have the misfortune to stop in Mui ne not on the first line and a little in the wrong place, it may turn out that the beach, to which you can only cross the road from your hotel in a straight line, in fact will have to walk hundreds of meters, or even a kilometer. Therefore, the advice is this – if during your vacation you intend to move here only on foot, do not be lazy before choosing a hotel to read real reviews to find out how far to actually go to the beach.

But in the eastern part everything is already more complicated

Taxi

There are plenty of taxis and motorcycle taxis in Mui Ne and Phan Thiet. A trip by car taxi on the counter or when ordering through applications within the resort will cost from 40,000 to 100,000 VND (from 1.52 USD), and a trip to the center of Phan Thiet from Mui Ne beach will cost almost 300,000 VND (11.41 USD). In general, according to our feelings, taxis are much more expensive here than at other resorts in Vietnam.

There are taxis by meters (boarding from 8,000 VND + 12,000 VND for each kilometer), such cars can be ordered by phone or at hotel receptions, caught on the street. On the street, taxi drivers will offer you to get there not by the meter, but at a fixed price. If you do not agree to the fixed price, look for another taxi or bargain.

Taxi in Mui Ne

But today it is much more convenient and profitable to use taxi applications. Uber and, of course, YandexGo don't work here, but the Grab app works great and Maxim is a little worse. In Maxim taxi, prices are lower, the price of the trip starts from 16,000 per car, but in reality we did not manage to wait for the destination of the car and its delivery in this application. But maybe you can do it, try it. With the Grab app, everything is much easier, cars arrive quickly, however, and prices are almost twice as high.

There is also a cheaper alternative – this is a motorcycle taxi. You can order a moto both through Grab and through Maxim, it costs at least twice as much as a car. But, of course, only one passenger can leave on it and without a large suitcase, i.e. it is not suitable for a trip to the bus station or railway station.

Rent a motorbike, bicycle or car in Mui Ne

If you plan to move actively, it makes sense to rent a transport. In order to rent a car or motorcycle in Vietnam, from 2014 you no longer need to obtain a local license. Now it is perfectly legal to drive with an international driver's license (IDP, also IDP – International Driving Permit). They have the form of a paper book of A5 format, you can get them through the website of public services, MFS or by contacting the traffic police (traffic police). It is not required to take the exams again. And yet, in order for everything to be completely legal, you must have an open category "A". Driving even the most low-powered scooter on public roads in Vietnam will be a violation, read more, What rights are needed in Vietnam here.... However, it is fair to say that when renting a license they don't ask at all, and therefore, in practice, many tourists ride motorbikes without rights at all, and when meeting with the police, they "solve the problem on the spot", or pay an official fine of one and a half million DONG.

One of the best ways to get around in Mui Ne is to rent a motorcycle

Rent a low-power moped (scooter) in Mui Ne, it is possible from 80,000 VND per day (from 3.04 USD) when renting for several days, and for 100,000 (from 3.8 USD) for one day in street rentals. When renting in hotels or in Russian–speaking travel agencies, they are already asking for more - 150,000 and from 200,000 VND, respectively.

How to bargain (our personal experience):

If the rental price does not suit you or seems too high, then it is not necessary to say something like "give a discount or go to someone else", or "I will take for so much." In many cases, we just say, but there is something cheaper, and then they offer either another version of the motorcycle, or they lower the price for this one.

There are a lot of motorcycle rental places in Mui Ne, it's easy to find in hotels and even just on the street. Often, when renting, they don't even require any deposit, it's enough just to tell which hotel you are staying at. You can read Learn more about all the intricacies of renting a motorcycle in Vietnam here ...

And now you can book a motorcycle and get it on arrival without difficult searches on the spot through the service 🏍 BikesBooking.com:

You can also rent a bicycle, including one with a drive (electric or gasoline), for which you do not need a license. A bike can be found for 25 000 (0.95 USD). They ask for more for an electric bike than for a regular one - from 100,000(3.8 USD)

And finally, if you do not have category "A" in your license and you do not drive a two-wheeled vehicle, then you can rent a car in Mui Ne, but this is a very expensive pleasure. Unfortunately, car rental is not developed here, there are no international network rentals and search aggregators with their low competing prices, and therefore you will have to pay from $ 50 per day for renting a car. What's more inconvenient, you'll have to search for a car through social networks or from private traders on the spot, but you won't be able to find and book through aggregators.

Nevertheless, just in case, here are international aggregators for searching for cars, check them, maybe Muine will appear there over time.

Phan Thiet Local Bus

How to use buses in Mui Ne

Bus stops along the road are marked with clear signs with the image of the bus, there are also bus shelters, but in fact the bus can be stopped anywhere with a wave of the hand for boarding, or ask the driver to disembark.

The fare is paid to the driver or conductor, and there are no strict rules when to do this: some drivers ask to pay immediately at the entrance, some collect in the course of traffic, and some at the exit. So be guided in this matter by the situation. It is advisable to prepare a trifle for payment, and ideally immediately the amount without change. The fact is that travel on local buses is charged according to the distance of the trip, for which you need to tell the driver / conductor where you need to go, and he will tell you how much the trip costs.

Unfortunately, on popular tourist routes No. 1 and No. 9, they try to charge the maximum price from tourists, for example, on route No. 1 it is 20,000 VND (0.76 USD). But you can also determine the price of the trip by mileage (information with the price, depending on the mileage, is indicated at the front door outside the bus, and on the signs inside) and pay as much as you should without change. If you give money with change, then most likely you will receive change taking into account the maximum cost of the trip.

Useful bus routes for tourists

  • Bus number 1. This is generally the most popular and convenient route for tourists, as it passes through the entire resort area of Mui Ne and into the center of Phan Thiet. The fare costs 8000 - 20000 depending on the length. It runs from 05:30 to 19:00 every 20-30 minutes.

It starts moving from the center of Phan Thiet from the northern bus station, passes through Coop Mart, and then through the entire resort of Mui Ne to the center of Mui Ne village. In theory, this bus goes further at least to Ham Rong beach, but in practice we only went to the village center, the bus did not go further. Bus route No.1 is available on our Phan Thiet/Muine map here.

What is useful No. 1 for tourists: you can get from the resort area to the center of Phan Thiet to the Coop Mart shopping center with a large supermarket; you can take it to the hotel in Mui ne upon arrival in Phan Thiet by bus or train with a transfer to it at the Coop Mart shopping center; inside the resort area you can get at least Fairy Creek, beautiful fishing harbor, village center and market, to red dunes, Cham towers.

  • Bus number 3. This bus runs inside Phan Thiet and may be useful if you need to get from Phan Thiet bus Station to Coop Mart shopping Center to change to No. 1 or other routes there. He also goes to another cool Lotte shopping center.

  • Bus number 9. A very useful route if you want to come or go here by train. We remind you that there are two railway stations near Phan Thiet: Ga Binh Thuan and Ga Phant Thiet. For more information about them and how to get there by train, see how to get to Phan Thiet. No. 9 runs from 5:30 to 18:30 every 30-40 minutes. The cost is 8000 – 35,000 VND.

Previously, it was possible to get from these stations only by taxi, but now bus No. 9 goes to them. In theory, No. 9 again goes through the entire resort area of Mui Ne, as does No. 1. But in fact, we didn't see him there, because, apparently, he ends up moving at the Coop Mart shopping center, where you can change to No. 1.

  • Bus number 6. These buses depart from the center of Phan Thiet from Lotte Mart shopping Center, pass by Coop Mart, and then go through the resort area of Thien Tanh and Bikini Beach to Mike Ke Ga. They run every 30-40 minutes from 6:00 to 18:00, the fare is 8 000 – 25 000 dongov.
