Tourists from the Russian Federation were allowed to stay in Thailand for up to 90 days without a visa, but this is a temporary measure, not a permanent rule. The 90-day visa-free period will be valid from only November 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024.

Starting from September 30, 2023, tourists from the Russian Federation are allowed to extend their 30-day visa-free stay for another 30 days (previously there were only 7 days). To renew, you need to contact any immigration office with a passport and an application, the cost of the extension is 1900 baht (58.27 USD, see Thailand's currency and exchange rate).

Thailand has launched a temporary visa-free regime for citizens of Kazakhstan and China. For now, it will be valid until February 29, 2024. The period of stay without a visa is 30 days.

"Action" on the extended period of visa-free stay in Thailand from 30 to 45 days for Russian tourists has not been extended, now tourists from the Russian Federation can stay in Thailand without a visa again for no more than 30 days.

According to the latest news, the period of "promotions" for an extended period of visa-free stay in Thailand from 30 to 45 days is planned to be extended until March 31, 2024.

Attention! From October 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, the period of visa-free stay in Thailand for citizens of the Russian Federation has been temporarily increased from 30 to 45 days. Whether the term of this "promotions" will be extended is still unknown.

From November 15, 2018 to January 13, 2019, the visa fee for obtaining a visa on arrival has been canceled for 21 countries whose citizens have the right to receive a visa on arrival. These include citizens of Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other countries of the former USSR.

In the period from December 1, 2016 to August 2017, the Thai government temporarily canceled visa fees for visas for tourists of all countries issued in advance at consulates outside the country. Also, at this time, the visa fee on arrival has been reduced from 2000 baht to 1000.

Starting from March 20, 2016, new rules came into force that seriously toughen the penalties for exceeding the period of permitted stay in Thailand (the so-called overstay). Now not only a fine is due for this, but also a ban on re-entry into the country for several years.

Duration of the ban in case of intentional violation of the period of stay:

  • Overstay of more than 90 days - ban on entry for 1 year
  • An overstay of more than 1 year - a ban on entry for 3 years
  • An overstay of more than 3 years - a ban on entry for 5 years
  • Overstay for more than 5 years - a ban on entry for 10 years

Duration of the ban in case of violation of the period of stay due to arrest or criminal prosecution:

  • Overstay up to 1 year - ban on entry for 5 years
  • An overstay of more than 1 year - a ban on entry for 10 years

It should be borne in mind that exceeding the time limit even as a result of illness or accident is equated to an intentional violation.
