Lamai beach and district (Lamai, also Lamai) is located on the west coast Koh Samui south of the most popular Chaweng beach (Lamai beach on the map). This is a great long beach and a quiet area.
If Chaweng is an entertainment center and the most developed and noisy area, then everything is in moderation on Lamai. There are also night entertainment, bars with girls, clubs, but there are not so many of them and they are not so noisy, and practically do not interfere with those who are not interested in them and who prefer a relaxing holiday. At the same time, the bulk of such entertainment is concentrated in the northern part of the district, and if you move south, it becomes much calmer.
There are a lot of restaurants and cafes here, there is an excellent street food court. If you need to buy something, then there is an excellent Lotus's Go Fresh hypermarket in the area, where you can find anything, and, again, there is a food court. On Sunday evenings, the northern part of the district (next to the bridge) is closed to traffic, and the Walking Street pedestrian street and Night market. And every evening after 18 hours until midnight in the center of the district along the main street there is a souvenir night market and an open-air food court not far from it. And it's not worth mentioning such things as travel agencies, exchangers, ATMs, rental of transport and other necessary infrastructure for recreation, because all this is found on Lamai at every turn.
Lamai beach itself is one of the best for swimming and beach holidays on Koh Samui. Its length is 3 kilometers, and it will really appeal to those who like long walks along the surf. It is almost not affected by tides, the waves here are not strong. The sand is coarse. In the southern part, the bottom goes down quite steeply, while in the north (towards Chaweng) the depth is small. All entertainment and amenities, meals on the beach are present.
Get to Lamai it costs 100 baht from the marina in Nathon by minibus, 170-200 baht from the airport by minivan, 600-800 baht by taxi from the airport.
There are a lot of Hotels in Lamai, the prices are low. Prices for accommodation without air conditioning start from 300 baht, and for 500 you can find a good spacious room for two in an air-conditioned guesthouse. You will have to pay from 1000 baht for accommodation at the hotel. It is possible to find inexpensive accommodation upon arrival, but you will have to wander around the area if you don't know the place in advance, since there is no concentration center for inexpensive guest houses here, and they are scattered all over Lamai. But their greatest concentration is in the north, so it's better to start the search from there. The cheapest ones can be found away from the road, in quiet alleys. In general, new expensive hotels are gradually replacing cheap ones near the beach, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find them.
Summing up, we can say that Lamai is a beach and an area that will suit absolutely everyone. There is enough entertainment for young people here (and if there is not enough, you can get to the neighboring noisy Chaweng), and there is a quiet place for the elderly, and there are good conditions for family holidays. The beach here is also above all praise: one of the best on the island.
