Tuapse - a port city in the Krasnodar Territory on the Black Sea coast 175 kilometers from Krasnodar (Tuapse on the map. The city is not very large, its population is just over 60 thousand people, but is an important industrial and Port center. For tourists it is an important transport hub (there is a railway station), as well as a beach resort.

The city is the administrative center of the Tuapse district, which includes several more resort towns and villages, which, although often considered remote resorts or beaches of Tuapse, are in fact independent recreation areas. We have prepared separate detailed guidebooks about them:

Holidays in Tuapse

Tuapse is considered a beach resort, but to call it a worthy and pleasant place to stay is only a stretch. There are recreation centers, hotels, sanatoriums of enterprises, private housing for rent, some tourist infrastructure is presented. On the outskirts of the city there is a long strip of Sandy and pebble beaches that stretch for many kilometers. But there are too many minuses in Tuapse to consider it an attractive resort.

❌ Cons of the resort

• An environmentally unfavorable place, many enterprises and a seaport with many ships.
• The entire coast within the city is occupied by the port, the beach begins only on the outskirts.
• Tourist infrastructure is poorly developed.
• No entertainment for tourists, few attractions.

Nevertheless, it is impossible to consider Tuapse a completely unsuitable place for recreation. If you are ready to be content with poorly developed infrastructure, lack of tourist entertainment and you only need a beach holiday, then the long beaches of Tuapse may well suit you.

All beaches of Tuapse are free, access to them is not limited. But their very location makes them not very easily accessible, since they are located on the outskirts, where you have to get from the center on foot or by Transport.

In total, Tuapse has two beaches: urban and Seaside, starting on the outskirts of the Tuapse and Spider rivers, respectively (City on the map). Further along the coast there are more beaches Vesna, Gizel-Dere and Yuzhny.

On the shore almost everywhere pebbles, only in a few places there is sand. The depth is mostly large, already 5 meters from the shore on the shoulders of adults. In some places, concrete slabs and boulders come across underwater, so be careful, try not to swim in untested places.

On the shore, the infrastructure is poorly developed. Only on the city and Seaside there are umbrellas and sun beds for rent, and at a speculative price even for the Black Sea Coast – 500 rubles per day. Infrastructure in Tuapse

Tuapse is the most developed city in the district. There are large shops, shopping centers, all life support institutions, a bus station and a railway station. In the center on Sochinskaya Street, which is the main road towards Sochi, there is a large shopping center Red Square with a large supermarket chain magnet, and it is convenient to make a stop on the way to other resorts to buy food and goods for recreation if you travel by car.

But the city can not boast of a developed tourist infrastructure. Cafes and canteens are few, there is no entertainment, travel agencies and the sale of excursions is difficult to find. In fact, everything is more or less tourist concentrated near the City Beach and at the exit to the seaside beach, which are not at all in the center, but far on the outskirts. In the center, a hint of tourist infrastructure can be found, except on the embankment.

Hotels and accommodation where to stay

Although Tuapse is not the most successful beach resort, there are a lot of accommodation options here, it will not be difficult to find a suitable one for your taste and budget. However, the most budget options are sorted out long in advance before the high season from July to August, and if you do not have time to do this, you may have to look for something cheaper not in the city itself, but in the neighboring resort villages of the district, for example in Dederkoe or Agoe.

The order of price for accommodation in Tuapse is as follows:

• Budget room or room for two with minimal amenities - from 800 rubles/day.
• A comfortable room in a hotel or guest house with amenities – from 1500 rubles/day.
• Room or accommodation for a family of 2+2 - from 2000 rubles/day.

As for the choice of placement, there are several options:

• You can settle in the center. There are many accommodation options, there are shops, urban infrastructure, bus station and railway station, embankment. But there is no beach here, the whole coast is occupied by a seaport. Accordingly, you will have to get to the beaches every time on foot or by transport to the outskirts. Just do not think that if you settle in the center, you will be close to Entertainment and tourist infrastructure, they are not here.
• City Beach area. Beyond the river Tuapse begins a hilly green area, where you can find very convenient accommodation options near the City Beach. But you need to choose accommodation here with extreme caution, because the apparent proximity of the beach is deceptive. In fact, the roads and paths here form a whole maze with differences in height, from which sometimes you just can not get to the shore. Therefore, carefully read in the reviews about the object, how easy it is to get from it to the beach, and do not trust the description and position on the map too much.
• Villages Vesna, Gizel-Dere and Yuzhny. These villages are a real wilderness, and Gizel-Dere and Yuzhny are almost abandoned. It is worth settling here only if you want to be in solitude and silence. There is practically no infrastructure here. Each of these villages has its own access to the beach through the passages under the railway, but the beaches themselves are also in disrepair (see photo above).

Weather in Tuapse, tourist seasons

• 🌞 need to go from June to August. The beach tourist season takes place in the summer months, especially popular – July and August.

• ⛅ you can go in May, September and October. Late spring and early autumn are also suitable for recreation, but there are some peculiarities. So, in May, the resort is not yet fully ready to receive vacationers, many facilities and entertainment are closed, and the weather can present unpleasant surprises in the form of rains and cold weather. September and October are the velvet season, when the main flow of tourists decreases, accommodation prices fall significantly. However, in mid-September, some attractions and tourist establishments stop working.

• 🌨 do not go from November to April. These months are too cold and not at all suitable for a holiday at the resort.

How to get there

Tuapse is located on the Black Sea coast, 175 kilometers from Krasnodar, 1510 kilometers from Moscow, and only 20 kilometers from here to the beginning of the vast territory of Greater Sochi (Tuapse on the map). This is an important railway transport hub on the Black Sea coast, and getting here by train from distant regions or cities of the Krasnodar Territory will not be difficult. You can also get here by plane, but you will have to fly to the airports of Krasnodar or Sochi, which are quite far away, so the train is still a more convenient option. Even in Tuapse you can get by private car, but there are certain subtleties with the choice of Route.

• By plane to Tuapse

  If there are no trains from your city or it takes too long to go, then look for tickets to Krasnodar airport (165 kilometers) or Sochi (140 kilometers). Which one to choose depends on the cost of flights from your region and their schedule, so that it is more convenient to dock with transport directly in Tuapse.   By bus you can get there with a transfer through the truck in Krasnodar from 400 rubles and 4-8 hours, or change at the railway station to the train, which is faster than the bus, and the cost is the same.

  Sochi airport (Adler) is closer than Krasnodar, but we recommend flying to it only as a last resort, since it takes a long time to get to Tuapse from it, and tickets are more expensive.

  From Sochi airport to Tuapse along the coast is difficult and long due to serpentines, slow traffic and frequent traffic jams. To be honest, not everyone can stand a non-stop trip on it under the control of local drivers, especially children. The road can take from 4 to 10 hours, depending on traffic jams. So we do not recommend this option. If you still decide to go by road, then at least use a taxi or tourist transfer from 4800 rubles, not a bus.

  It is much more convenient and in just 3-3.5 hours you can take the train directly from the airport to the railway station Tuapse. Electric trains of the carrier Kuban Express-prigorod depart at least 5 times a day, additional flights may be added in the season. Travel costs from 470 rubles.

• By train in Tuapse

  In Tuapse there is an important railway station, where all trains to Sochi and Adler stop, and it is also an intermediate or final stop for electric trains to Krasnodar, Sochi, Adler and further up to the resort of Rosa Khutor. Located in the city center on Victory Street, 2 (Tuapse train station on the map), and you can get to your destination on foot or by taxi starting from 60 rubles.

• By bus in Tuapse

  In the center of the city on Marshal Zhukov Street, 6 there is a bus station (Tuapse bus station on the map). You can get here by bus from the cities of the Krasnodar Territory and neighboring regions of the Russian Federation, during the tourist season flights from Moscow and other distant regions are launched.

  However, although in general a bus trip is Cheaper Than a similar one by train, given the complexity of the trip and the danger of this type of transport when driving on mountain roads, we would recommend the bus last.

• By car in Tuapse

  The last 160 kilometers after Krasnodar to Tuapse can be done on one of two routes. To decide which one to choose, we recommend that you monitor the state of traffic in Yandex. Navigator:

  • Through Dzhubga. An excellent highway with a speed limit of 110 km/h leads to Dzhubga, but after Dzhubga serpentines and resort villages begin, the passage through which is very difficult, especially during the tourist season in the daytime. Even without an accident due to pedestrian crossings and narrowing of roads in the villages, you can get into many hours of traffic jams, and if an accident occurs with a lane lock, then a four-hour trip can easily turn into an eight-hour one.
  • Through Shahumyan pass. An alternative route leads through Khadyzhensk and the Shahumyan pass (Shahumyansky), and allows you to avoid traffic jams on the Dzhubga-Tuapse section. The road here is narrow, but rarely congested. But the problem is that six kilometers of the pass will have to drive along a rocky dirt serpentine road with a minimum speed. This section is very dusty, trucks on it move very slowly, overtaking is difficult and prohibited, so for these six kilometers you will have to spend 30-60 minutes.

Transport in Tuapse, how to move around the resort

In Tuapse, there is a public transport system of buses, but to move around the city they are not very convenient, it is easier to walk to the right place. Buses will be useful to tourists except for trips to neighboring beaches and resorts of the Tuapse district.

All buses depart from the bus station in the city center (Tuapse bus station on the map). You can pay for the trip by buying a ticket at the ticket office (for suburban buses) or in the salon. Tariffs depend on the distance depending on the destination, start from 16 rubles. Here are the most useful routes for tourists:

Attractions and entertainment, what to see

Tuapse is the administrative and a kind of cultural center of the Tuapse district, but in practice the city is not replete with interesting tourist attractions. Here you can visit three museums, walk along the embankment, see several iconic monuments and monuments of the Second World War and other periods, and that's it.

Some internet guides include alleys, parks, squares, individual monuments and sculptures among the city attractions. But, in our opinion, you are unlikely to spend time on vacation in search of such places to take a photo against the background of the monument or to sit on a bench in the alley. Things are somewhat better with the sights in the vicinity of the city on the territory of the Tuapse district. These are mainly natural places (waterfalls, mountain rivers, mountains, rocks), but there are also special historical and cultural attractions-dolmens and menhirs. You can visit them yourself on your own transport or suburban buses.

If independent trips are not for you, you can buy ready-made excursions. In Tuapse, they are offered a lot, they are sold from distributors on the embankment and near the City Beach. The variety is great: from sightseeing tours around the city to trips to distant attractions of the Krasnodar Territory, to neighboring regions or to Abkhazia. Just keep in mind when buying that the price usually does not include admission to attractions and entertainment, food and drinks, check this information with the seller.

Tourist entertainment in Tuapse is also small. There is no water park or Dolphinarium, but only a small park with children's attractions on the embankment. Even on the central beach there are no traditional water activities, only occasionally there are "private traders" offering jet ski rental, and there is also a rental of Sapsurfing boards (SUP-board). As a result, paradoxically, for entertainment from the city you will have to go to neighboring resort towns and villages, where there are water parks, dolphinariums, and oceanariums. Evening entertainment in Tuapse is also not developed, there are no bars and nightclubs. You can diversify the evening here only with a walk along the embankment and Revolution Square, and dinner in one of the few cafes.
