Resorts of Adygea, where it is better to go

Article and Section Navigation

Adygea is a small republic, and attractions and tourist spots are concentrated only in its southern part. If you go away from Maykop to the south along the P254 highway, then you will get first to the village of Kamennomostsky, then to the village of Dakhovskaya, then to the village of Khamyshki and Guzeripl, where the road ends. Actually, the tourist part of Adygea is limited to these settlements and attractions in their vicinity. All these places are surrounded by beautiful mountains and forests, and lie on the banks of the mountain river Belaya, originating on the territory of the Caucasian Reserve in the mountains of the North Caucasus.

There is also the capital of the republic – the city of Maykop. But, despite the presence of a large number of hotels, there is absolutely nothing for tourists to do there, unless they stop for the night on the way. As an exception, unless you can visit one of the resort hotels with thermal springs in the vicinity of Maykop.

Also often during a trip to Adygea, the route includes a visit to the Guamka farm and the gorge of the same name, as well as the village of Mezmay, which are connected to Maykop by road. But in fact it is already resorts of Krasnodar Krai.

Below we have prepared an overview of the resort places of Adygea so that you can choose a place and where it is better to stay while traveling around the republic. If you are interested in specific sights and their location, then it is better to read the article "All the sights of Adygea". If you still have questions after reading all this, you can ask them on our tourist forum in the section about Adygea.

Kamennomostsky settlement

Rufabgo Waterfalls, Adygea
Rufabgo Waterfall in Kamennomostskoye

Kamennomostsky is without a doubt the tourist capital of the Republic (Kamennomostsky on the map). Although it is a small settlement with a population of a little more than 7000 inhabitants, of all the cities of Adygea, this is the most convenient place for tourists to relax, especially if you are visiting the region for the first time. There are more than fifty hotels and guest houses here, it is easy to find accommodation in the private sector, there are many budget options. In addition, Kamennomostsky has the most developed tourist infrastructure in terms of finding excursions and access to attractions. And it's also the easiest place to get here.

In the village there is a large supermarket "Magnet", a market, a bakery, many small shops, pharmacies and a polyclinic. Staying here, by and large you will not need anything, except that you will not find a large selection of manufactured goods, and for serious purchases you will have to go at least to Maykop.

That's good is that Kamennomostsky has two of the most popular tourist attractions: the Rufabgo Waterfalls and the Khadjokh Gorge. Both of them can be visited independently and on foot from the center. There are also two private museums, a dolmen, and an entertainment extreme park. If you like hiking for one day, you can go for a walk to the waterfalls and grottoes in the gorge of the Meshoko River or the Aminovka River. Of course, this is only a small part of the attractions of the Republic, and it will be necessary to visit one of the caves (Gentle or Big Azish), and take a route through the Caucasian Reserve, but you will have to get to these places by transport. And if you did not come by private transport, then in this regard Kamennomostsky is just the most democratic in terms of prices, and it is easier and cheaper to find transport or an excursion than in other villages.

Dakhovskaya village

Rafting in Adygea
Rafting near Dakhovskaya

Dakhovskaya is further behind Kamennomostsky, and it is a little harder to get to (Dahovskaya village on the map). But this is the next most popular and developed place where you can stay. Of course, as in general in Adygea, it is best to come here by private car. But if this is not possible, then in Dakhovskaya you still have a chance to see the sights of the Republic for a reasonable fee, since it is well located geographically. From here you can easily get to Kamennomostsky by bus, hitchhike or taxi and see its interesting places. And also from here begins the road to the caves of Gentle, Bolshaya Azishskaya, and to the checkpoint Lagonaki at the entrance to the Caucasian Reserve.

In general, the village is a very calm, quiet and cozy place with an almost rustic atmosphere. It is so quiet that there is nowhere to go except to one of the cafes here. There are no supermarkets, only small shops with groceries and basic necessities. Among the entertainment and attractions here, you can independently visit the only chairlift in the republic, which leads to the top of the Una-Koza ridge, where there is an observation deck with mountain views, the grotto of "Desires", the cave "Dusty" and "Dakhovskaya", the parking lot of an ancient man, the rope park "Tethys". Organized rafting tours along the Belaya River are also offered in Dakhovskaya.

Hamyshki village

Granite Canyon, Adygea
Granite Canyon near Hamyshki

The village is further down the road to the south after the village of Dakhovskaya (Hamyshki village on the map). The infrastructure here is very poorly developed: there are several small grocery stores, buses rarely run. Therefore, if you decide to stay here, we highly recommend doing so only if you have your own transport.

There are practically no attractions in the village itself, with the exception of several trails to not very well-known natural attractions. There is also an archaeological park with a dolmen in the north of the village, but in 2018 it did not operate, and in general it is not of particular interest. Among the attractions, ATV rentals and rafting tours along the Belaya River are offered.

Village of Guzeripl

Guzeripl Museum Museum of Nature in Guzeriple

Guzeripl is located at the end of a highway in southern Adygea (guzeripl on the map). You can't drive further, everything is encircled by mountains and the territory of the Caucasian Reserve. This is a very small village with a population of only 100 people, but a very important tourist point. Here is one of the headquarters of the Caucasian Reserve (cordon Guzeripl), and the Museum of Nature. There is a famous dolmen on the territory of the museum, and a rope amusement park nearby. However, in our opinion, it is worth going purposefully to Guzeripl and staying there only if you intend to make a multi-day route through the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve, including for climbing the peaks of Fisht, Oshten or Psheha-Su. In this case, you can use the village as a place of rest and preparation before or after the route. However, it should be borne in mind that the start of the walking route does not begin in the village itself, but at the checkpoint on Yavorovaya Polyana, to which you will still have to drive 18 kilometers from the village. Guzeripl is the nearest settlement to this checkpoint.

You can stay here in one of a couple dozen hotels and guest houses. There are several small shops and cafes. But the situation here is extremely rustic, and there is really nothing to do outside the hotels.

Other places in Adygea

Caucasian Reserve, Adygea
Lago-Naki Plateau in the reserve

In addition to the settlements mentioned above, there are other places in Adygea where it may be interesting to stay for a separate category of tourists. For example, if you are traveling by private car and are looking for something very close to nature and in solitude, then accommodation at one of the camp sites outside the settlements may suit you. There are quite a lot of such camp sites in the republic, they are mainly located along the Belaya River on the road from Kamennomostsky to Guzeripl, as well as on the road from the village of Dakhovskaya to the plateau and to the Lago-Naki checkpoint (the same road leads to the caves Bolshaya Azishskaya and Gentle).

Another attractive category of places to relax in Adygea are sanatoriums and complexes with thermal springs and SPA treatments. Several such sanatoriums are located in the vicinity of Maykop in the village of Tulsky, in the Mostovsky district of Krasnodar Krai, not far from Kamennomostsky, on the way to the Lagonaki plateau. Read more about the thermal springs of Adygea here.

And finally, it is best to book hotels or accommodation in Adygea at the mentioned resorts on the following sites, or through the search form below:
