Holidays in Guamka - how to get there, what to see, where to stay

General information

Guamka - a farm in the Krasnodar Territory, 150 kilometers from the city of Krasnodar, 60 kilometers from Maykop and 1500 from Moscow at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level (Guamka on the map. The farm is small, its permanent population is just over 300 people.

Guamka is a popular tourist destination for one or two days, rarely anyone stays here longer. Usually people come here during a road trip on the way to the beach resorts of the Krasnodar Territory or to the mountain resorts of the Republic of Adygea, OR visit it in the form of an organized excursion from the beach resorts of the South. It is also a great place to go for a weekend trip from Krasnodar, Rostov-On-Don and other nearby major cities, and even as a day trip for walking or taking the train through the Guam gorge. Specifically, to go on vacation only in Guamka without visiting other resorts in this region, in our opinion, is not worth it, since there is simply nothing to do here for more than three days. And ideally, you should plan a trip to Guamka together with a visit to another mountain resort in the neighborhood, the village of Mezmay, known for its main attraction - Eagle shelfa>.

Tourists go to Guamka primarily to visit the famous Guam gorge. This is really a very interesting and bright attraction that will appeal to almost every tourist and traveler, and the most impressionable it causes just delight. However, in addition to this gorge in Guamka, you can do other types of active sightseeing: hiking in the mountains and in the surrounding area, horseback riding and quad biking, flying on a trolley through the gorge and river, jeep tours to the mountains, etc. In front of the village there are two hot springs of natural water.

The tourist infrastructure in Guamka is well developed for such a distant and small settlement, but you should not expect anything special: there are a couple of dozen accommodation options, cafes and kebabs, shops with souvenirs and goods for tourists at the entrance to the gorge. There are no street counters and travel agencies selling excursions here, but it is easy to order them by calling the phones published on one of the many billboards and advertisements, or simply asking the hotel where you are staying. In Guamka, the only Doc-Mac Store operates - a fairly large grocery with reasonable prices.

Hotels and accommodation in Guamka where to stay

Accommodation in Guamka is represented by a couple of dozen hotels, guest houses and private housing, but prices are slightly higher than in the beach resorts of the Krasnodar Territory. In the summer, and especially on weekends and holidays, it is better to book hotels or accommodation in advance through booking sites, in winter this is not necessary. If finances allow, you can stay in the most comfortable hotel in Guamka, where there are even two pools with heated water - Hotel Dobrynya. Not only hotel guests can swim in its pools, but also guests from the outside for a one-time fee of 400 rubles.

The only budget hostel in Guamka with accommodation in a shared room is better at any time of the year to book in advance - hostel "Guamka" from 300 rubles per person. And for lovers of outdoor recreation there is a special way of accommodation-in an equipped Palatka house from 300 rubles.

As for the choice of accommodation, this issue is not very fundamental, since the village is quite small, and as such there is no tourist center, everywhere is the same as in the village. But if you do not want to walk far to the entrance to the gorge and the only store in Guamka, choose accommodation as close as possible to the gorge of Guamka.

Weather in Guamka, tourist seasons

Since Guamka is located in the south of the country and at an altitude of more than 400 meters above sea level, the climate here is mild: winters are not very cold, and summers are not too hot. The coldest months are December-February, but even at this time the temperature usually stays above 0. From December to February, the surrounding mountains and gorge are covered with snow.

The tourist season in Guamka lasts all year round, but in winter the number of available attractions is limited only by the Guam Gorge and hot springs, and other interesting places are not available.

High tourist season and the best time to travel is from June to September. In these months, the air warms up to +25 during the day, there is not much precipitation. But remember that even in the hottest months, it can be chilly in the evenings, so warm clothes will not hurt.

Separately, it is worth saying about May. It is already a warm month, but also the rainiest of the year.

How to get to Guamka

Public intercity transport to Guamka is very poorly developed, so it is best to get here by car or taxi. Here are all the ways in more detail:

• By car

  A good asphalt road leads to Guamka via Apsheronsk. The last 40 kilometers is a very winding road with descents and ascents, so be careful not to exceed the set speed. Near Maikop there is a shorter road through the villages of Dagestan or Bezvodnaya, but part of the way passes along a dirt and very rocky road. We would not recommend going this way, it is better through Apsheronsk.

  In Apsheronsk there are the last gas stations on the way to Guamka and Mezmay: luKoY, Rosneft and other network gas stations. Please note that the consumption of gasoline due to descents and ascents to the villages is large.

  There are no problems with parking in Guamka. If you come here for one day for a walk through the Guam gorge, the car can be left in the parking lot in front of the railway station of the tourist train in the gorge for 50 rubles. If for a few days, then hotels and guest houses provide free parking in the courtyard, or you can leave transport on the roadsides, there are no prohibiting signs.

• By bus

  You can get to Guamka without personal transport only by bus, and the route will pass with a transfer through Apsheronsk. There are no direct buses from other cities and towns at all.

  A small suburban bus (minibus) runs from Apsheronsk to Guamka 3-4 times a day, depending on the season. On weekends, the number of flights can be reduced to 2. Here is the schedule as of 2021:

  • Apsheronsk-Guamka: 06:00, 08:00, 12:00, 15:00
  • Guamka-Apsheronsk: 07:00, 09:00, 13:00, 16:00

  The fare is 70 rubles, payment to the driver. Departs from the stop next to the bus station Apsheronsk (Apsheronsk station on the map). The schedule may vary depending on the season and days of the week, so you will have to check on the spot or by calling the Apsheronsk station: (8-86152) 21930.

  In turn, you can get to the Apsheronsk bus station by bus from Krasnodar, Belorechensk (you can get here from other regions of the Russian Federation by train), Maikop, and other towns and cities of the Krasnodar Territory and Adygea.

• By plane or train

  If you will get here from distant regions, it is best to use the plane or train, and the last part of the way to Guamka to do by taxi. The nearest airport is in Krasnodar (Pashkovsky airport), where there are many low-cost flights from the regions of the Russian Federation.

  From the airport it is most convenient to get by taxi or use a ready-made tourist transfer. Ready-made tourist transfers can be booked online at kiwitaxi or via the search form:

  If you decide to go by public transport, then you will first have to get from the airport by local transport to the Krasnodar-1 bus station in the city center (at least 1 hour on the way), take an intercity bus to Apsheronsk, and from Apsheronsk in turn by taxi or local bus. This whole move can take a whole day, and there is a chance to get stuck somewhere along the way for the night due to the cancellation of bus flights or not docking according to schedule.

  By train it is also most convenient to go to Krasnodar. Of course, there are railway stations closer to Apsheronsk, for example in Goryachy Klyuch, but it is cheaper and easier to get by bus or taxi from Krasnodar.

  Another good option is to take the train to Belorechensk. A lot of passing trains to Adler stop at Belorechensk station, so in the high season (in summer) it will not be a problem at all to find a suitable train flight there. In turn, from Belorechensk to Guamka will have to get by taxi (from 2000 USD) or by bus with a transfer in Apsheronsk.

Attractions in Guamka, what to see

Despite the fact that most guidebooks on the Internet describe Guamka as a place with a huge number of attractions and excursions, in fact, the only place that is available to mass tourists to visit on their own without additional effort is the Guam gorge. If you want to visit mountains, waterfalls, caves, observation decks and other interesting places in the vicinity, you will have to walk a lot, and on difficult mountain trails, and some places are available only during extreme ascents and descents in special shoes and with safety equipment.

If you do not like walking on mountain trails, then you can ease your hard tourist fate a little by buying a jeep tour or a horse ride, but most of the attractions are inaccessible even for jeeps, you will have to walk to them. Jeep tours you can easily order by phone, indicated everywhere in the village on advertising posters or ads, or in the place of your accommodation. These excursions are conducted along one well-developed route with wonderful views, and you can also go to the village of Mezmay and its surroundings, because there are even more spectacular views and interesting natural places around Mezmay.

From entertainment here you can go fishing, hunting, horse riding or quad biking, shoot in the shooting range, and even fly a paraglider. But all these entertainments are not massive, and therefore quite expensive. Independently you can go to the thermal springs located 10 kilometers from the village.
