1-day itinerary: Dalat's highlights in 24 hours
This itinerary is entirely walkable with 2–3 short taxi rides. It covers central spots and leaves time for lunch and rest.
- 8:30–10:00 AM — Crazy House
Come at opening time before the crowds. Half an hour to an hour to explore the rooms and bridges. - 10:00 AM–12:00 PM — Xuan Huong Lake and Lam Vien Square
Walk down from Crazy House to the lake (15 min). Walk along the eastern shore, reach the square with the sunflower-shaped pavilions. You can rent a pedal boat. - 12:00–1:30 PM — lunch near the Central Market
Right by the market are dozens of cafes with pho, banh mi, soups. We usually grab something on the upper floor of the market — cheap and colorful. - 1:30–3:00 PM — Flower Gardens (alternative: Bao Dai Palace 3)
If the weather is clear, head to the gardens — they're within walking distance of the lake. If you're in the mood for history, take a taxi to Bao Dai Palace 3 (60,000 VND entry, 3 km from center). - 3:00–4:30 PM — The Pink Church or Linh Son Pagoda
Domaine de Marie Church (free, beautiful) is 1.5 km from the lake, you can combine with a walk. Or the free Linh Son Pagoda 1 km north of the market — a quiet spot. - from 5:00 PM — night market, dinner
Head back to the main market. After 5:00 PM, it turns into street food central: pancakes, skewers, seafood, smoothies.
It's impossible to fit the out-of-town waterfalls into this day — they're scattered in different directions. If you really want, replace the afternoon gardens/church with Datanla Waterfall (6 km by taxi), but you won't be back before 5:30 PM.
2-day itinerary: city + surroundings
Day 1. Extended city tour
Follows the logic of the one-day itinerary but with a couple more points and a more relaxed pace.
- Morning: Crazy House → Dalat Railway Station (1 km walk, entry 50,000 VND). See the old steam locomotive; you can take a tourist train to Trai Mat village and visit Linh Phuoc Pagoda there, but that will shift the whole day. If no train, just take photos.
- Noon: Xuan Huong Lake, Lam Vien Square, lunch at the market.
- Afternoon: Bao Dai Palace 3 (or Flower Gardens). Then — The Pink Church.
- Evening: Lam Dong Museum (until 5:00 PM, 22,000 VND) — if you have time. Or straight to the night market.
Day 2. Waterfall & temple loop
The logistics rely on a rented bike/car or an excursion. Start at 8:00 AM.
- 8:30–10:00 AM — Linh Phuoc Pagoda. Stunning mosaic, the Hell and Heaven tunnel, bell tower.
- 10:30 AM–12:00 PM — Elephant Waterfall and Linh An Pagoda. 45 km from the city, the road passes coffee plantations. The waterfall roars so loud it fills your ears. While there, go up to the Guanyin statue.
- 12:30–1:30 PM — lunch at a cafe by the waterfall or along the way.
- 2:00–3:30 PM — Datanla Waterfall. Head back towards Dalat, stop at Datanla. Try the alpine coaster.
- by 5:00 PM — return to Dalat, night market.
If you want more waterfalls, replace Datanla with Prenn (50,000 VND, 10 km south). But it's more touristy and geared towards groups.
Alternative: northern direction
Instead of the waterfall loop, you can head north:
- Morning: cable car to Thien Vien Monastery (cable car starts at 7:30 AM).
- Lunch: picnic by Tuyen Lam Lake or a cafe in the Valley of Love.
- Afternoon: Valley of Love (250,000 VND) or Lang Biang Mountain (50,000 VND + jeep) for some trekking.
How to get around
The best way is to rent a motorbike (from 130,000 VND/day 4.94 USD) or a car (from $50). We drove ourselves to all the points with a navigator using our Dalat map.
If you're not comfortable driving, take a taxi or an Easy Rider (private bike guide, from $20/day). Another option — a driver with a car (from $50). The downside is everyone speaks only English, with a strong accent.
Russian-language excursions from Nha Trang and Mui Ne cover most top spots, which is the most carefree option. Here are a few trusted platforms:

Planning tips
- Best time: November to March — dry, cool. In the rainy season, waterfalls are more powerful, but it's often cloudy.
- Clothing: even in the dry season, evenings are chilly (+15…+18°C), a light jacket is useful.
- Food: at the market, be sure to try artichoke tea and fresh strawberries/avocados — they're cheaper here than anywhere.
- Combining: don't try to cover both the waterfalls and Lang Biang Mountain in one day — you'll lose time on driving.
- Map with points. For navigation, download the points from our map below into your smartphone app and use it for walks and drives.
