This temple is Phrathat Doi Khao Kwai (Wat Phrathat Doi Khao Kwai) on the mountain is not particularly known among the guests of Chiang Rai, but we can safely call it one of the most picturesque and interesting in the city. The fact is that it is located on the very top of a hill with a height of more than 500 meters, and from the temple site there are cool views of the green surroundings of Chiang Rai.
In addition to the views, this temple is notable for something else: according to legend, the mythological creature Sihuhata was discovered here, whose sculpture menacingly looks at Changrai from a hill. Sihuhata is a four–eared and five-eyed god, somewhat outwardly resembling a cat or a tiger, bringing wealth and prosperity. He is revered by players and those who are looking for luck in promotions. 🚶 How to get there
Phratat Doi Khao Kwai Temple is located on a mountain near Chiang Rai, five kilometers from the city center (Wat Phrathat Doi Khao Kwai on the map). You can get here by taxi, but it is reached by a very steep climb, so not every taxi driver agrees to go here at the price calculated by the Grab or Bolt applications, you may have to negotiate a payment of 150 baht (4.6 USD). Or you can drive to the foot of the hill and then walk 25 minutes with a climb of 120 meters. It is not a problem to get here by rented transport, there is a free spacious parking area upstairs.
