Wat Huay Pla Kang Temple

As we always say in our guidebooks, every temple in Thailand is unique in some way, so this Wat Huay Pla Kang temple in Chiang Rai is special. It is the largest temple complex in the city and in the entire province. It impresses with its scope and architecture. The Chinese style and the traditional architecture of the kingdom of Lanna have mixed here, and all this in such hypertrophied sizes that in good weather it can be seen tens of kilometers away. It is very easy to recognize him from afar by the huge statue of Guan Yin, which sits in a lotus position on a hill. This is the largest statue of this goddess in Thailand, 79 meters high.

Guan Yin is the goddess of mercy, abbreviated from the name Guanshiyin, which means "Looking at the sounds of the world" or "watching the sounds."

This is a modern temple, it began to be built in 2001. Today this place has turned into a large complex for believers, and attracts a huge number of tourists. For its inspection, tourists are even driven here on electric car trailers, but, of course, it is easier and more interesting to get around everything on foot.

The statue of Guan Yin is equipped with a staircase and an elevator, which allows you to climb to the 25th floor and look at the surroundings from above. However, when we were here, the stairs for lifting tourists were closed, it is allowed to climb only by a paid elevator for 40 baht. By the way, there is a queue at the elevator in the afternoon, and if you don't want to wait, it's better to come here early in the morning or in the evening.

Another very interesting object here is a nine–story Chinese-style pagoda. Inside it is also interesting and beautiful, you can walk up the stairs to the very top, from there there is also a cool view of the surroundings.

Well, you should definitely visit the snow–white viharn - this is the main building in the temple. Everything inside it glitters, polished marble on the floor, bas-reliefs from Buddhist stories on the walls, and two statues of large white Buddhas are kept.

You can visit Wat Huay Pla Kang in the afternoon or evening. With the advent of darkness, it is very beautifully illuminated, although in the evening you will not be able to climb up to see the surroundings of Chiang Rai from a height.
