Description and is it worth a visit
Doi Tung Royal Villa and Mae Fa Luang Garden are two attractions, but they are usually visited together because they are next to each other and are like a whole complex for recreation and excursions. The same complex includes the Hall of Inspiration and the Arboretum (Mae Fa Luang Arboretum). Here you can not only take a walk and see the sights, but also stay overnight at the hotel.
The royal villa was built in 1990 as a gift for the ninetieth birthday of the king's mother. Now the two-storey building of the villa is open to tourists for a fee. At the entrance you will be given an audio guide with headphones. You will have the opportunity to walk through several rooms where the Queen lived and get acquainted with her hobbies and some achievements in public life. But to be honest, you won't see anything particularly interesting in the villa itself, unless you are seriously interested in the life of the royal family of Thailand. So if you have limited time, you can skip visiting the villa and go straight to the garden of Mae Fa Luang.
With ad Mei Fa Luang is spread over an area of 40 square kilometers, and it should not be missed in any way. Even if you are not a passionate nature lover, it will be very pleasant to walk and relax among the most beautiful plants here. In the garden, in addition to flowers and other plants, there is also a rock garden, a fountain and a craft center. The ideal time to visit it is the winter months, when the flowers in the garden bloom in all their glory. For a walk in the garden you will have to stock up on strength, water and time. It is better to set aside at least 2 hours for a walk, and ideally half a day in general.
There is also a Hall of Inspiration (Hall of Inspiration). This is something like an interactive museum-installation, telling about the life of the royal family. If you are not very interested in the life of the king, you can skip it. But in general, the place may seem interesting. It will take no more than 15 minutes to visit it. And, well, you can cool down a little here after a walk under the scorching sun in the garden.
The arboretum, where you can see and learn a lot of interesting things about flowers, in particular about Thai orchids, is no longer located next to the garden, but about 5 kilometers away.

🚶 How to get there
Doi Tung Royal Villa and Mae Fa Luang Garden are located 50 kilometers from Chiang Rai on the way to Maesai (Doi Tung Royal Villa and Mae Fa Luang Chiang Rai Garden on the map). You can get here only by rented transport or if you hire a taxi, it takes almost 2 hours to go one way. Be careful when driving: the last 5 kilometers of the way, although they pass on good asphalt, but the road is very winding, a real mountain serpentine.
