If you think that of the unusual temples in Chiang Rai there is only the famous White Temple, then you are very mistaken. There is an even less well-known, but no less unusual Black Temple, which we also visited and told about it here. And relatively recently, in 2016, another appearedBlue or Blue temple Wat Rong Sua Ten (Wat Rong Suea Ten). He is not so "popular" and known as White, and so far he is almost not found in guidebooks and tourist brochures, so we went and looked at him ourselves.
The Blue temple in Chiang Rai is not as large-scale and perhaps not as unusual as the White and Black, but it will definitely leave an impression. It can also be attributed to the temple avant-garde or neo-traditional style. It combines the traditional architecture of Buddhist temples in Thailand and the original modern artist's view of the details in its interior and exterior.
It was built on the site of an old abandoned temple, it was built from 2005 to 2016. It is believed that tigers lived on the site of the temple a long time ago, and therefore it was named "Rong Sua Ten", which literally translates as "The House of the dancing tiger". By the way, its architect is the artist Putha Kabkaew (Phuttha Kabkaew, also known under the pseudonym Sala Nok), a student of the famous Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, the one who created the famous White Temple.
As the name implies, the image of the temple is really dominated by blue or bright blue, which is very unusual for Thai temples. At the same time, it is combined with the traditional gilding of pagodas and Buddha sculptures, and inside the temple there is a large statue of a white seated Buddha in the lotus position. By the way, the blue color is not for nothing, it has a symbolic meaning and symbolizes the teachings of Dharma Buddhism.

🚶 How to get there
The blue temple is located on the outskirts of Chiang Rai, three kilometers from the center, i.e. from the night market area and the old bus station (Blue temple on the map).
