Sri Suphan or Sri Supan Temple (Wat Sri Suphan) got its name "Silver" from the fact that its main ubosot is made of silver. Of course, the supporting structures and other large elements of the temple are made of familiar materials, in particular wood and aluminum, but the most important images and decorations are covered with thin sheets of pure silver. They depict whole paintings telling about the kingdom of Lanna, and the temple itself is built in the style of an ancient kingdom. The temple and its surroundings look very beautiful, especially in sunny weather. And if you are unlucky with the sunny weather during the day, you can come here after sunset and look at the temple in a beautiful colored backlight. True, you can't go inside the ubosot itself in the evening. You can move freely around the temple, but women are not allowed to enter the silver building.
The engraved plates with which the temple is decorated are made right here in the workshop, and if you are lucky, you will be able to see the work of the masters live, and some products can even be bought as a souvenir. Also nearby, in a traditional red house on the ground floor, there is a conditional museum Lanna Craft Wisdom Museum, telling about the history of the temple and the technology of making silver hammered plates.
Wat Sri Suphan, despite its modern appearance, is one of the oldest in Chiang Mai. It was founded between 1495 and 1515, the exact date is unknown. However, over the years it was completely destroyed and recreated anew. There are only a few boundary or boundary stones left from the original temple, and everything else that you will see is modern buildings.
