Description and is it worth a visit
Doi Chang Dao Mountain is the third highest mountain in Thailand, its height is 2195 meters. The mountain is part of the Doi Chiang Dao National Park, and climbing it is the most popular hiking trail from Chiang Dao. What's good, it does not require special climbing training and equipment, it's just a trekking or hiking route. Ie, you don't have to climb the rocks, you just need a good physical shape to withstand a long hike. They climb the mountain in order to get acquainted with the local rich flora and fauna along the way, admire and capture an incredibly breathtaking view from the top, and meet the sunset. Theoretically, if you are an experienced and trained tourist or climber, you will be able to master the ascent and descent yourself within one day if you start climbing at night, but only experienced climbers in very good physical condition and accompanied by the same guide can overcome such a test. In the standard case, the ascent involves an organized trekking tour with one or two overnight stays along the way in tents and campsites.
🕐 Working hours
The ascent is possible only from November to February on dates previously agreed with the reserve administration.
💵Entrance fee / ticket price
Access to Chiang Dao Mountain Reserve – 200 baht for foreigners (approximately 6 USD, see Thailand's currency and exchange rate).
🚶 How to get there
Chiang Dao Mountain is located on the territory of the reserve near the town of Chiang Dao in the north of Chiang Mai Province (Chiang Dao peak on the map). The climbing route starts in Ban Tham village, it is near Chiagdao hot springs, here is the entrance to the national park. Theoretically, if you are an experienced tourist, you can climb the mountain yourself by paying and registering at the entrance to the park, but for this you need to have all the equipment and know the route. Therefore, such trips are not welcome by the administration and we have met information that they refused to go on a hike unaccompanied by guides. Therefore, the easiest way is to buy a ready-made mountain tour in Chiang Mai or Chiang Mai, which includes a guide and all the necessary equipment. Depending on the place of purchase, the number of people in the group and the level of comfort, it will cost from 2000 baht. It is better to book in advance, since it is necessary to obtain permission to visit the park 2-3 weeks before the start.
