Wat Mae Ead Temple in Chiang Dao and how to visit it

Description and is it worth a visit

Temple of Mae Ead (Wat Mae Ead)

Temple of Mae Ead (Wat Mae Ead) is a Buddhist temple in the city of Chiang Dao in northern Thailand and one of the most unusual in Chiang Mai province that we happened to see there. Despite its "provinciality", this temple can surprise even seasoned travelers in Thailand. There are several huge sculptures of Buddha, monks and mythical religious creatures installed here, which are amazing in their scale, because you don't expect to see this at all far from large cities and in a relatively sparsely populated area in a province in the far north of the country.

But the most important thing here is a series of sculptures depicting the torments of hell or purgatory. They amaze and shock with their cruelty and frankness. But, surprisingly, even children are brought to see them. The fact is that they have an instructive function to show children what awaits those who behave badly in life and do not observe the Theravada Buddhist tradition. And if you go further into the territory of the temple to the golden statue of the monk, you will get to the observation deck with views of Chiang Dao and the surrounding area.
