How to get to Yalta

Article and Section Navigation

Attention! Simferopol Airport is closed, flights are not operated in any of the directions. In this regard, the airport bus station also does not work. Probably, the ban period will be extended. As an alternative to traveling to Crimea, use trains, buses, personal transport, or buy tickets to the nearest operating airport in Sochi.

Overview of ways to get to Yalta

Yalta is located on the Black Sea coast, 80 kilometers from Simferopol and 100 kilometers from the airport (Yalta on the map of Crimea). Despite the importance and development of Yalta, you can get here only by buses and, surprisingly, intercity trolleybuses. But there is no own airport and railway here. To begin with, here is a brief overview of how to get to Yalta:
  • ✈ By plane to Simferopol airport, and from there by taxi from 1500 rubles, direct buses or with a transfer by trolleybus through the center of Simferopol from 180 rubles.
  • 🚆 By train to Simferopol railway station, and then from the railway station by taxi from 400 rubles, intercity buses or trolleybus from 26 rubles.
  • 🚌 By bus from almost all major cities of Crimea and from neighboring regions with a transfer by taxi or public transport to get directly to the hotel.
  • 🚗 By car across the Crimean Bridge and then along the Tavrida highway through Simferopol (this is the fastest route along the new excellent road), or along the southern coast of Crimea through Koktebel, Sudak, Alushta (this is a scenic route, but much longer and, it may require an additional overnight stay on the way).
  • 🛌 Buy a ready-made package tour with a transfer directly to the hotel in Yalta without any worries.

But before planning an independent trip to Balaklava, you can check the prices for ready-made tours from Russian tour operators at no extra charge. If you buy such a tour in advance or "catch" hot prices, then you can relax with a tour with a flight and transfer in a good hotel at the price of a regular flight. You can find and book a vacation in Yalta at prices directly from tour operators on these Russian tour search and booking sites:

And now we will tell you more about each of the ways, how and how to get to Yalta with the schedule and cost of transport in 2023:

By plane

Simferopol Aivazovsky International Airport is located 100 kilometers from Yalta (on the map). Flights to it are operated only from the cities of the Russian Federation, most of the planes arrive here from Moscow and St. Petersburg. In the summer season, many flights from the regions of the Russian Federation are launched. If there are no direct flights from your region that are suitable for the price and time, then you can get there with a transfer in Moscow, and it may turn out even cheaper than directly.

How to get from the airport to Yalta

Transport links are well developed here, and you can get from Simferopol airport to Yalta both comfortably by taxi and very budget by buses or trolleybuses in a little more than an hour. But it should be borne in mind that public transport runs only during the daytime, so if you arrive at night, you will either have to wait for the morning or take a taxi. As for the resorts of greater Yalta (Simeiz, Foros, Nikita, Katsiveli, etc.), direct bus flights are also launched from the airport to them in high season. But they are quite rare, and if they do not suit you according to the schedule, then you can get there with a transfer in Yalta, or order a tourist transfer that will take you right to the door of the hotel / accommodation.

The most convenient and fastest way to get to Yalta from the airport is by taxi or ordering a tourist transfer. A taxi ride will cost from 1500 rubles, but keep in mind that the Yandex.Go, Uber and other applications do not work here. You can order a car at the counter (it will be more expensive), arrange a trip with drivers in the parking lot (they also ask for a lot, but you can bargain). But the cheapest way to order a car is by phone or on the website of one of the local taxi companies, whose contacts you can find online.

A more comfortable taxi option is to order a tourist transfer. Then, upon arrival, a driver with a sign will be waiting for you, and you can immediately go to the resort. The cost is fixed, it is paid for the entire car, so you can save money when traveling with the company. You can check the prices for the transfer and, if you wish, book it on the website intui.travel, and also through this search form from Intui.travel:

Another convenient way to get to your vacation spot is to rent a car at the airport. The average cost is from 800 rubles in low season / from 1500 in high season. But, to be honest, if you do not plan to actively travel to other resorts of the Crimea except Yalta or go to distant attractions and beaches, then a car in Yalta will be more of a burden to you than an assistant. If you still decide to rent, you can pick up and book a car on one of these sites:

If a taxi ride or ordering a tourist transfer does not fit into your budget, then here are detailed instructions on how to get there by local transport:

  • By trolleybus

    Simferopol-Yalta trolleybus
Retro-Simferopol-Yalta trolleybus (these no longer run)

This is the cheapest, but also the slowest way. Previously, the direct route of trolleybus No. 55 went from the airport to Yalta, it was the longest trolleybus route in the world. As of 2023, it has been suspended, and whether it will be resumed is unknown. Now you can take a trolleybus from the airport only with a transfer through the center of Simferopol. Be prepared for the fact that this route will take 4 hours.

First we need to get from the airport bus stop by city bus or trolleybus to Kurortnaya bus station and Simferopol railway station, they are located in one place. The fare costs 25 rubles, 30-40 minutes on the way. Trolleybus No. 52 departs from the trolleybus stop next to Kurortnaya every half hour to Yalta (trolleybus route 52 on the map). The fare costs 180 rubles, and you will have to spend almost 3 hours on the way.

You will arrive in Yalta at the stop at 57 Moskovskaya Street, near the bus station (bus station on the map). It is quite far from the city center and hotels on foot, but you can take a taxi from 100 rubles or use local public transport (read about public transport in Yalta here).

  • By bus

    Bus in Crimea
Bus at the Kurortnaya bus station

It is best to go by direct bus from the airport. Direct flights depart approximately every 1-2 hours. The journey takes 2 and a half hours, the cost starts from 550 rubles. You can buy tickets for this route online at bus.tutu.ru or unitiki.com.

If for some reason you don't get tickets for a direct flight, which often happens during the high tourist season, then in order not to wait for the next one, you can get to Simferopol to the Kurortnaya bus station (AC-2), and from there go to Yalta. Buses depart from Kurortnaya to Yalta almost every 20 minutes, they also cost from 400 rubles, 2 hours on the way.

All buses arrive at the bus station on the outskirts of Yalta (bus station on the map), from there you can get to the hotel on foot, by taxi from 100 rubles or public transport for 25 rubles.

By train

Simferopol railway station
Simferopol railway station, where you will arrive

There is no railway in Yalta, you need to get here by train through Sevastopol. There are many flights from Moscow and the regions of the Russian Federation to the Simferopol railway station, additional trains are launched in the summer.

Because of the sanctions, the main Russian carrier RZD does not operate flights to Crimea, and therefore you need to search and buy tickets not on the RZD website, but on tutu.ru or on the company carrier's website Grand Service Express.

By bus

Yalta Bus Station
Yalta Bus Station

You can get to Yalta by bus from all major cities of Crimea and neighboring regions of Russia, from Moscow and neighboring cities, in particular from Minsk, Baku, Yerevan and Tbilisi. A long-distance bus ride is less comfortable than a train ride, but it costs less.

If you need to get to Yalta, but there is no direct bus, then buy a ticket to Simferopol. Whatever bus station you arrive at in Simferopol, it will not be difficult to get to Yalta from there in a couple of hours by buses costing from 400 rubles. Similarly, from remote cities of the Crimea to Yalta, you can transfer via Simferopol, as well as through Sevastopol or Alushta.

By car to Yalta

The car enters the Crimean bridge
Driving across the Crimean Bridge

By car from the regions of the Russian Federation to the Crimea it is necessary to drive over the new Crimean bridge, travel on it is free. Theoretically, the possibility of entry through the territory of the DPR Republic, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions has been preserved, but this option of entry, given the current situation, should not be considered.

After entering the peninsula from Kerch to Yalta, the route can be laid using one of these options:

  • Via Simferopol. This is a route with a length of 280 kilometers, it runs along the new excellent Tavrida highway, and in the absence of traffic jams on the roads in the Simferopol area, it can be driven in 4-5 hours. Along the way, there are rest stops and new network gas stations on this highway.
  • On the YBK through Koktebel, Sudak, Alushta. This road is shorter by 10 kilometers, but almost twice as long in time, since it runs along the seashore along serpentines and through settlements. At the same time, this route is considered more picturesque, and along the way you can visit several interesting places. But keep in mind that if you make stops to explore the sights, and there are a lot of them here, then most likely you won't even get there in one light day to drive it, you will need almost a full light day, and possibly an overnight stay along the way. Therefore, we recommend it only if you want to travel around the peninsula, and not just get to Yalta faster.

Since traveling by car is always fraught with risk, we advise you to issue voluntary CASCO insurance in addition to compulsory CTP insurance, which will protect you from unforeseen expenses in case of an accident, unpleasant weather surprises, damage to the car by ill-wishers, theft and other troubles. And if you are running out of CTP, then today it is most profitable to arrange it online on these sites:

From other cities of Crimea to Yalta

Public transport in Crimea is well developed, and getting to Yalta from other cities of the peninsula will not be difficult. Flights from some cities in the eastern part of Crimea (Feodosia, Kerch) pass through Simferopol, and sometimes it is necessary to transfer to Simferopol if there is no direct bus.

  • You can get from Alushta by trolleybuses No. 52, 53
  • From Foros bus#128 – from 100 rubles
  • From Simeiza bus#128, 142, 107, 115 – from 50 rubles
  • From the Blue Bay Water Park, Kativeli, Ponizovka busnumber107 - from 100 rubles

К сожалению сейчас нет цен в Симферополь, ведь туда не выполняются рейсы, аэропорт закрыт. Поэтому временно заменили на Сочи, это единственный ближайший работающий аэропорт.
