To begin with, it is worth mentioning that Yalta is divided into the city proper and the Bolshaya Yalta district, which includes a seventy-kilometer stretch of coast from Foros to Krasnokamenka. Greater Yalta includes the resorts of Simeiz, Alupka, Livadia, Otradnoye, Gurzuf, as well as other small beaches. Despite its impressive size, you can move around bolshaya Yalta without any problems on public transport, which is well developed here.
Walking in Yalta
If you settle near the center within walking distance from Yalta embankment and Lenin Square, then most of the entertainment, central beaches, restaurants and shops will be accessible on foot. In general, the Yalta embankment is generally recognized as the most beautiful and comfortable, and it is a pleasure to walk along it.
Yalta public transport - buses and trolleybuses
Yalta has a well-developed urban transport network of buses, minibuses and trolleybuses. They will be useful if you settle further from the beaches or on the outskirts, then you can use them to get to the center. Also, buses and trolleybuses can be cheap to get to the distant beaches and resorts of Bolshaya Yalta, and almost all attractions and entertainment. It is impossible to get by public transport except only to Ai-Petri Mountain and the Grand Canyon.
Today there are big buses (there are not many of them), and small buses and minibuses (there are a lot of them). All types of buses can run on the same route at once. The transport itself is not very new, but it is gradually being updated. The old Soviet buses and trolleybuses were inherited from Ukraine to the city, as in the photo, but now they are almost gone, except that you can see them in the special attraction of the Trolleybus Cemetery.
Travel inside the city costs 25 rubles, and on inter-district routes (these are buses to Simeiz, Nikita, Alupka, etc.) already depends on the specific route and the length of the trip. You can pay for the trip in cash and with a contactless bank card. But bank cards are not accepted on all routes, and in fixed-route taxis this is generally rare, so always have cash change with you for the trip.
City transport in the center of Yalta may be needed only in order to get from/to the Yalta bus station and the trolleybus stop located next to it (bus station on the map), where trolleybuses arrive from Simferopol and intercity buses. There are only two kilometers from the bus station to the center and the embankment, almost all routes go there.
If you need to travel outside the city to the suburbs of Yalta, i.e. to resorts and to the sights of Greater Yalta, it is best to do it again from the bus station. In the description of entertainment and attractions of Yalta, we indicated which routes you can get to them. If you need to plan a route by public transport, including transfers, we recommend using Yandex or 2Gis map applications for planning. Many other maps and websites with routes show incorrect and outdated information, since the numbering of routes in Yalta has changed a lot in recent years.
Taxi in Yalta
Unfortunately, applications of taxi aggregators yandkesdo, Uber, etc. do not work in Yalta, and therefore you will have to order a car by phone, catch it on the street or install applications from one of the local taxi companies. Applications of local taxis in official stores are blocked by the application due to sanctions, you will have to install them from the site, allowing installation from unknown sources on the device.
Also on the streets of Yalta, especially in places where vacationers gather, at the bus station and the embankment, you can find private taxi drivers "bombed". But we recommend using an official branded taxi, and not private companies. The fact is that with private traders in Yalta it will not be possible to save money, but rather the opposite, since they initially call tourists inflated prices, taking advantage of their ignorance of real prices. Sometimes their price is twice as high as a ride in a branded taxi on the counter. Remember that within the center of Yalta, a taxi ride should cost no more than 100 rubles, and bargain if you are told the price is higher. If you can't bring down the price, just call and call a car in one of the official taxis. Approximate prices for a branded taxi: 100 rubles for the first three kilometers + 15 rubles for each subsequent kilometer, but if desired, you can find even cheaper.

Personal car
It is not very convenient to travel by private car in Yalta: the streets are narrow, there are few parking lots. Therefore, we advise car travelers to park their car near your hotel or rented accommodation, and move around the resort on another transport. It makes sense to use the car only for trips to distant beaches, attractions and entertainment. For example, it is convenient to take a family trip by car to Yalta Zoo, visit Ai-Petri Mountain and Grand Canyon of Crimea, see other resorts of Greater Yalta and all Crimea. But even in this case, you need to be prepared for the fact that you will have to pay for parking from 100 to 300 rubles, or look for a free parking place away from the sights.
By the way, there are also problems with long-term parking in the center of Yalta, so it's better to check in advance before booking accommodation if there is an opportunity to park nearby with your temporary place of residence. Car rental
If you are used to mobility, you can rent a car, including with a driver. But we would not recommend you to rent a car only if you do not plan to travel outside the city. There is nowhere to go around the city, and you will have to pay for parking, which is not cheap here.
You can rent a car both in Yalta itself and in Simferopol airport. The cost is from 800 rubles in low season / from 1500 in high season. In high season, it is better to book in advance, which can be done on these sites or through the search form and compare the rental costs of different companies:
Scooter rental
For trips around Yalta with a breeze, you can rent a low-power moped scooter or a "motobike". To manage, you need a driver's license with any category. That is, it is not necessary that you have a category "M" there, even a license with a category "B" for a passenger car is suitable, and in general any. It's almost as easy to drive as a bicycle, since they are equipped with a variator, i.e. you don't have to change gears. But still the skill is needed, and therefore if you have not managed before, it is better to start practicing on a flat empty area. Well, be very careful when driving around the city, and it's better to use a motorbike for trips outside the city.
For renting such equipment, they ask for an amount comparable to renting a car: from 1000 rubles for renting from 7 days, and 1500 for renting for one day. This, in our opinion, is unreasonably expensive. But on the other hand, if you really want to remember how you "drove on a stool" in Thailand or Vietnam, then why not rent.
You can rent such equipment in one of several rental offices (you can find it via the Internet or on maps), as well as from private owners who offer them in the embankment area and other places where tourists gather. Some of them work without documents and insurance, and therefore there are frequent cases of "divorce" of tourists for money upon the return of scooters due to the slightest scratches. So be careful and take pictures or record videos carefully when you receive the scooter, including even scratches on technical surfaces like the exhaust pipe or wheel rim. And also read reviews about the rental, they can be found, for example, on Yandex.maps.
