Where to walk in Sudak?
Sudak is a developed resort, and there are two equipped walking areas where you can enjoy day or evening walks. These are the Sudak Embankment and the Cypress Alley. In addition, you can go for a walk through the natural and protected areas in the vicinity of the resort, for which several ecological routes are organized here, or as they are also called – eco-trails.
We present to your attention an overview of pedestrian zones, places for walking and day trips around the neighborhood in Sudak, where you can go to diversify your holiday at the resort. For each place we give a detailed description, tell you how to get there, about the cost of visiting and opening hours:
Sudaka Embankment
This is the most "party" place and the main area for evening promenades at the resort. There is always something going on here and all the fun and infrastructure for vacationers is concentrated. Both in the afternoon and in the evening there are children's attractions, inexpensive street fast food for vacationers is on sale, and inexpensive draft beer and soft drinks flow like a river. You can choose an inexpensive outdoor cafe with tables located right on the promenade, you can sit down to eat in one of the inexpensive self-service canteens, or choose an expensive restaurant or bar overlooking the sea. Learn more about the Sudaka embankment here.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: Sudakskaya embankment on the map.
Cypress Alley
Cypress Alley is another walking area in Sudak along with the promenade. This is a pedestrian street, along which there are many cafes and restaurants, bars and clubs, stalls and shops with goods for vacationers, travel agencies and counters selling tickets and excursions. Music sounds from everywhere, entertainment and photos with animals are offered, barkers are invited to taste alcoholic beverages. Read more about Cypress Alley here.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock, the main fun is in the evening.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: Cypress Alley stretches almost a kilometer from the embankment to the city center (Cypress Alley on the map).
Hiking trail to Alchak-Kaya
Cape and Mount Alchak-Kaya is an ancient coral reef with a peak height of 152 meters. There are many trails on the slopes and along the perimeter that allow you to climb to the top, go through the mountain to the other side to Kapselskaya Bay, or go around its perimeter along the path along the water. This is a great place for an easy walk from Sudak, which will allow you to take a little break from constantly lying on the beach and enjoy the beautiful views from the observation points above. In addition to the trails on the mountain there is another interesting place – this is the "Aeolian Harp". This is a through rock with a hole formed as a result of weathering of the rock. It is located on the western slope at the entrance to the route to the "Devil's Bridge". Read more about Alchka-Kai and how to visit him here.
🕐 Working hours: it is better to visit in the afternoon or evening before sunset to look at the city in the dark (but you need to take a flashlight with you, it is dangerous to walk in the dark)
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: Alchak-Kaya Mountain is located just east of the city (Alchak on the map). The entrance to the trail to the "Devil's Bridge" begins at the end of the beach. Here, at the entrance to the trail, the "Aeolian Harp" is located a little higher, but not everyone can climb up the slope to it, it climbs up too steeply. It is possible to get on foot from the Cypress Alley to the entrance to the trail in 15-20 minutes on foot along the embankment. The entrance to the route to the top begins in the village from Botanic Street.
The Golitsyn Trail
The Golitsyn Trail, also known as the Falcon Trail, in our opinion, is the most interesting attraction of the village of Novy Svet, but it is also easy to visit from Sudak. This is a hiking trail near the village, cut down on the slopes of Mount Koba-Kaya (Mount Eagle) in 1912 on the occasion of the arrival of Tsar Nicholas II by order of Prince Golitsyn. Today, anyone can walk along the trail, and the visit has become free. The entire route is 5.47 kilometers and passes through the territory of the Novy Svet Nature Reserve. It will take from 2 to 4 hours to overcome it, depending on your physical form. During the walk there are wonderful views of the bay and the village, including from the observation decks. Next, the trail will take you to Golitsyn's grotto, Robber's Bay and the beach (also known as Blue Bay), Cape Kapchik, pass through a juniper grove. Read more about the Golitsyn trail and photos here.
🕐 Working hours: during daytime.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: previously, a fee of 100 rubles was charged at the entrance to the trail, but now (as of 2023) admission is free.
🚶 How to get there: the trail starts almost from the village itself, it's easy to get to the entrance on foot (entrance to the Golitsyn trail on the map). From Sudak you can get here by taxi (from 400 USD), by bus number 5 or by car, but then you will have to pay 100 rubles / hour for parking. Sokol Mountain
It is said that Mount Sokol (Kush-Kaya) is the oldest coral reef in Europe. Anyway, this is one of the highest points in the district, its height is 474 meters. There are many climbing routes of varying complexity to the top, and these routes are one of the most interesting entertainments during your vacation in the village. You can climb either just on foot along the simplest route, or on a difficult one with the use of equipment. The walking route to the very top takes 3-4 hours, and the same amount of time will be needed for the descent, so a full day should be allocated for all visits to the mountain. You can climb on your own if you have experience of such routes, but it is better to find an experienced guide with you. Be sure to use comfortable hiking shoes, stock up on drinking water. Learn more about Sokol Mountain and how to visit it here.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock, for safety reasons, visit strictly during the day, in dry weather.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: free.
🚶 How to get there: the mountain is located next to Sudak and the New World (Sokol Mountain on the map). There are several trails of varying difficulty leading to the top, the starting points are in Sudak and in the New World, so you can visit it from any of these resorts or go through it from one to the other. For more information about visiting Sokol Mountain and routes, see the link with a full description of the attraction.
Karaul-Oba Mountain and route
The Karaul-Oba mountain range is located to the west of the village, towards the beach of Veselovskaya Bay. This is the territory of the Novy Svet nature reserve, through which a popular hiking route passes along the mountain. On the route you will see a juniper grove, magnificent mountain and seascapes. There will be another attraction on the route - a staircase of Brands cut into the rocks, whose age is more than 2500 years. This staircase will take you to the "Peak of Space" from where you can see almost the entire coast from Yalta to Sudak. Of course, you will visit the very top of Karaul-Oba, whose height is 341 meters. The tourist trail ends on the shore of Veselovskaya Bay, where you can see another attraction – the ruins of the Kutlak fortress (also known as the Asandra fortress), built in the 1st century BC.
To overcome the Karaul-Oba route, you should wear comfortable hiking shoes and stock up on water. It is better to spend a full day on the route. Learn more about the mountain and the Karaul-Oba route here.
🕐 Working hours: during daytime.
💵 Entrance fee / ticket price: entrance to the territory of the reserve – 100 rubles.
🚶 How to get there: the entrance to the route is located at the entrance to the Golitsyn trail (Karaul-Oba mountain on the map). Sometimes these routes are combined, passing them one after the other. You can also start a hike in Veseloe village, and finish it in a New Light.
