General information and recreation in Okunevka

Okunevka is a small village on the western coast of Crimea on the Tarkhankut peninsula, 76 kilometers from Yevpatoria and 150 kilometers from Simferopol and the airport (Okunevka on the map of Crimea). Officially Okunevka belongs to the Chegpomogskoyu district, to the resort village Chernomorskoe from here 25 kilometers. Nearby is another small resort village of Maryino, and a little further along the shore, Olenevka, famous for its sandy beaches.

Okunevka is one of the most remote and little–known resort places on the west coast of Crimea, where tourists rarely get there. The village is surrounded by steppes, and there is practically no tourist infrastructure here except for a couple of cafes and rural shops. The population of Okunevka is only a few hundred people.

If you expect to see a full-fledged resort village here, we will immediately warn you: Okunevka remains an ordinary rural settlement without any signs of tourist life. In general, this is a place that is not suitable for everyone who wants to relax on the Black Sea coast. However, some vacationers come here from year to year, and the reason for this is a special beach.

But it is still important to understand, let's repeat it again: Okunevka is not a resort, but a place for a specific holiday. There is not even a hint of comfort here – the water is sometimes turned off, the Internet catches poorly, and the nearest "civilization" is in Chernomorskoye (25 km). But if you dreamed of complete unity with nature, this is the perfect option.

And now let's talk about the special beach of Okunevka. It is really special, and different from other beaches in the whole Crimea, and even from the beaches next door on the west bank. At least in appearance and from afar it is really beautiful, which is why these places even got the popular name "Crimean Maldives". In fact, of course, this beach has nothing in common with the real beaches of the Maldives and other tropical countries, even externally, but, nevertheless, such a nickname "stuck" to it.

In fact, the beach in Okunevka is not very suitable for swimming and relaxing on the shore. Yes, it is beautiful if you look towards the sea. But if you look at the coast, you will see a steep coast with a strip of stone fortification. There is little space to sit on a chaise longue or mattress, the shore is narrow. Actually, there are no deck chairs, umbrellas, or anything from the infrastructure at all.

Most of the beach stretches under a cliff along the entire village. There are exits to the beach in a couple of places in the center, down the stairs. Here you will find yourself on a pebbly and rocky beach.

To the left of the shore (this is the eastern side of the village) there is a small sandy beach where you can swim with pleasure, and there is even a place where you can sit on the sand and sunbathe. However, right behind this beach there is a closed area and there is also a sign "swimming is prohibited", and boats are stored on the shore.

Hotels and accommodation in Okunevka, where to rent without intermediaries

There are several recreation centers in Okunevka, and you can also stay in private houses and rooms rented to tourists. Unfortunately, there is a problem with finding and booking accommodation here in advance online, there are very few such options. Therefore, it is most often necessary to plan a vacation here through acquaintances, through old contacts with the owners, or to find contacts on bulletin boards. Booking in this case takes place by phone. Only a few guest houses and campsites are present in the booking systems, and they belong to Olenevka or Chernomorskoye, so it is more convenient to search for them and book them using a map with hotels:

Weather and seasons in Okunevka, when is the best time to go

Okunevka is a beach resort, and therefore it is best to go on vacation here in the summer, and it is permissible in spring and autumn.

The beginning of the beach season here begins in the second half of May, but in May and the first half of June it is still cool for a comfortable beach holiday. The weather can be rainy, there are cold snaps up to 10 degrees.

Really warm and comfortable weather is established in the second half of June and lasts up to and including August. So if you have the opportunity to choose when to go on vacation to Okunevka, we advise you to choose July and August.

If your vacation is delayed until autumn, then you can come here during the velvet season in September and early October. The weather in these months is getting cooler, but the sea is still warm, and there are almost no tourists left.

Starting from November and up to and including April, there is nothing to do in Okunevka. If there are no severe frosts here, and in some winter months you can even sunbathe, in general it will not be a beach holiday at all, but just a change of scenery.

How to get to Okunevka

Okunevka resort is located quite far from major transport hubs, the airport and the railway station, and is very poorly connected by public transport. Therefore, it is best to go here on vacation on your own transport. If you do not have your own transport, you can get here by plane through Simferopol airport or by train through Yevpatoria with a taxi transfer. Theoretically, it is possible to get there by commuter buses, but this is not very convenient for recreation. Let's talk about everything in a little more detail:

To get to Okunevka by plane, you need to fly to the nearest airport in Simferopol, which is 150 kilometers away or about three hours away by taxi. From the airport it is best to take a taxi, which will cost from 3000 rubles. If you have booked accommodation in advance, you can try to arrange a transfer from the airport with the owners of the accommodation or with the recreation center.

Another good option is to rent a car at the airport in order to get to the resort on your own right from there. This is very convenient if you want to get to know other resorts and attractions during your vacation. The cost of a day when renting for several days starts from only 1200 rubles in low season / from 1800 in high season. If it is expensive to take a taxi, you can take a bus, but only if it suits you according to the schedule. To do this, you need to get from the airport by city trolleybuses or buses to the Kurortnaya bus station, also known as Simferopol AC-2. From this bus station, once a day at 08:45, a bus departs to the Black Sea and stops at Okunevka on the way. The fare starts from 600 rubles, almost 4 hours on the way. The bus from Chernomorskoye to Simferopol departs at 13 o'clock and passes through Okunevka at 14 o'clock. Another option to reduce the cost of the trip is to take buses or trains to Yevpatoria (they often go during the day), and there transfer to a taxi or bus to Okunevka.

If you prefer a train rather than a plane, then you can go to the nearest railway station of Yevpatoria, which is 80 kilometers away or an hour and a half away. The railway station of Yevpatoria can be reached by direct trains from Moscow and St. Petersburg, and from other cities and regions with a transfer to the train through Simferopol. From the railway station of Yevpatoria to Okunevka, you can take a taxi from 2500 rubles, or at least take a local bus, which once a day at 16:20 departs from Yevpatoria to Olenevka and passes through Okunevka along the main street.

But in general, in our opinion, the most convenient and reasonable option to go on vacation to Okunevka is to use your own transport. After all, without your transport, you will be isolated here, far from civilization.

There are two ways to enter the Crimea and get to Okunevka: through the Kerch Bridge from the Krasnodar Territory or through the Chongar checkpoint in the Kherson region with passage through the "new" territories. • Across the bridge

  After entering the peninsula on the Crimean bridge to Okunevka will have to drive 390 kilometers, which is about 5-6 hours. The fastest way is to go along the Tavrida highway through Simferopol and Yevpatoria. Theoretically, it is possible to go through Dzhankoy, there is also a good road there, but it is longer and further.

• Through the Chongar checkpoint

  The road to Chongar in the "new regions" is excellent, you can go safely (watch the video above). After entering through the Chongar checkpoint to Okunevka, it will be necessary to drive 220 kilometers through Dzhankoy, which will take 3-4 hours. At first, from Chongar to Dzhankoy there are 40 kilometers of asphalt road in patches, very poor condition, driving slowly and for a long time. Perhaps in the future it will be repaired, but in the meantime it takes at least 1 hour to get to this site, since it will not work to drive fast without damage to the car.

  Then after Dzhankoy, go through Botanic, Razdolnoye, Steregushchee, Mezhvodnoye and Chernomorskoye, this whole road renovated.

Attractions in Okunevka, what to see and what to do

There are no interesting places and tourist attractions in Okunevka, excursions are not sold. The owners of guest houses and recreation centers can offer you an individual trip to the immediate vicinity by car, but such a trip will be quite expensive. If you need an inexpensive group excursion, then you will have to go to Olenevka or Chernomorskoye for it, where you can buy relatively inexpensive excursions not only to the nearest attractions, but also to more remote places in the Crimea. Of course, you will first have to go and book an excursion, and therefore another day to arrive there again by the time of departure, which is very inconvenient and expensive.

If you come to Okunevka on vacation in your car, you will be able to spend time much more interesting and visit interesting places in the vicinity or throughout the Crimea on your own. Since the village is located on the territory of the Tarkhankut peninsula, we advise you to start by visiting the sights of the Tarkhankut Nature Park, all the most interesting sights and beauties are located on a twenty-kilometer stretch of shore towards Olenevka, along which a rolled dirt road runs. And in Olenevka itself you can buy diving excursions for beginners and professionals in one of the diving clubs. If you suddenly don't know yet, the waters along the shores of the Tarkhankut peninsula are considered the most interesting in the whole Crimea for scuba diving.

If you are interested in historical and archaeological sites, then you should definitely go 20 kilometers to Chernomorskoye, where there is a good local history museum and an open-air archaeological museum ancient Greek settlement "Kalos Limen". If you drive a little further to the Mezhvodnoye resort, you can visit the remains of another "Panskoe" settlement, and fix your health with the therapeutic mud of Lake Dzharylgach. Another archaeological site - excavations of the Pontic fortress Kulchuk - is located 18 kilometers away on the shore near the village of Gromovo.
