General information and recreation in Mezhvodnoye
Mezhvodnoye is a small village on the northwestern coast of Crimea, 140 kilometers from Simferopol and the airport (Mezhvodnoye on the map of Crimea). Officially it is a village, and this is one of the northernmost and most remote resorts of the Crimea, which is quite difficult to reach by public transport.
It is often possible to hear the opinion that there is nothing to do further than Yevpatoria in the Crimea. Well, as a maximum, you can go further to the beaches in Olenevka and see the beautiful places on Cape Tarkhankut. However, Mezhvodnoye is just such a place that can be cited as a counterargument to such opinions. This is a full-fledged and surprisingly well-developed beach resort, which, by and large, has everything you need for a pleasant beach holiday. Moreover, Mezhvodnoye is one of the most popular places in the Crimea for kitesurfing, and therefore the whole high season is full of life, including youth. It is also one of the few places left on the peninsula where you can relax as a savage in a tent or motorhome on the shore. Of course, with a tent they stop not in Mezhvodnoye itself, but on the banks next to it. Well, these places are known for salt lakes estuaries, from the bottom of which you can get therapeutic mud for self-treatment. Perhaps the only weak point in Mezhvodnoye is the almost complete absence of attractions and tourist attractions, but we will tell you everything in order:
✔ Advantages of the resort
- Long sandy beach with yellow sand.
- Surprisingly well developed tourist and urban infrastructure.
- Quiet and peaceful, almost rustic.
- Low prices for accommodation.
❌ Disadvantages of the resort
- Very difficult to reach by public transport.
- There are few attractions and entertainment in the village itself.
- The beach can be polluted with smelly algae (some consider this a plus).
- Frequent and strong winds, because the place is popular with kitesurfers.
Beaches in Mezhvodnoye
Beaches in Mezhvodnoye are sandy and seashell, i.e. with coarse yellow sand and small crushed seashell. There are areas with fine white sand, but at the water's edge there is still a strip of small stones and shells. The entrance to the water is gentle, the depth is small, and therefore the local beaches are very well suited for recreation even with the youngest children.
In some places there are stones on the shore, but this is more a rarity than a rule, and stones are cleaned from the shore. One of the unpleasant surprises for vacationers can be algae, which after storms, bad weather or with a certain direction of the wind in large numbers washes ashore and throws on the sand. But there is no big problem in this, because on the central beach of the resort they are removed, and on wild beaches they disappear after a few days. In addition, some vacationers believe in the usefulness of these algae and believe that thanks to them the water is saturated with healing iodine. But if you come to rest in Mezhvodnoye at the beginning or at the end of the season (May, June, September, October), there is a chance to find the coast completely covered with rotting algae, since they are not very actively removed outside the high season.
The main beach in Mezhvodnoye is located in the center of the village and stretches for more than a kilometer. In high season, sun beds and umbrellas are offered for rent (from 150 rubles/day), there are free changing rooms, footwash. Entertainment on the shore is not very much. In the peak season, there are traditional water activities such as banana riding and renting gyroscuters, but their availability throughout the season is not guaranteed. Only catamaran and SUP surfboard rentals are always offered.
Along the main beach there are several cafes, fast food is sold and there is something like a tourist market. There is parking for private transport for 50 rubles / day.
Outside the village there are many wild beaches. From the border of Mezhvodnoye towards another Chernomorskoe resort, a wild sandy beach stretches for another two kilometers along the shore of the Yarylchag Bay. These places are chosen by lovers of recreation in tents and auto-houses, and even further there are several camps for kite surfing.
If you move in the other direction (to the Northeast) from Mezhvodnoye in the direction of Resort Steregushche, then there is a Coast with cliffs and rocky, but you can find secluded sandy coves.
Hotels and accommodation in Mezhvodnoye, where to stay
You can stay in Mezhvodny for rest in one of the hotels or guest houses, as well as local residents rent private housing – rooms and whole houses. What to choose depends on your preferences: in a hotel or guest houses it will be more comfortable and there are services and cleaning; in private housing it is cheaper, but you will have to clean and cook yourself. Usually for a long vacation or if you are with children, it is more convenient to rent private housing.
The price of accommodation in the northern resorts of the Crimea is low, and Mezhvodnoye is no exception. If we compare prices here with the southern coast of the Crimea (YBK), it is safe to say that the difference in price for approximately the same comfort options can reach two times, of course, in favor of Mezhvodny.
You can find accommodation or private mini-hotels and guest houses on the spot upon arrival. But if you prefer that everything was planned in advance, you can pick up and book options for hotels and private accommodation on these reliable sites:
- 🛌 Search for recreation centers in Mezhvodnoye on mirturbaz.ru
- 🛌 search hotels in Mezhvodnoye on Yandex.travel
- 🛌 Search hotels on Ostrovok.ru
- 🛌 Search for affordable housing in Mezhvodnoye on Sutochno.ru
When searching for hotels in Crimea on Booking.com you will most likely get a message - "no options found". This is a limitation booking.com because of the sanctions against the inhabitants of the peninsula. But to get around it and book accommodation in the Crimea is very simple: you just need to turn on the "traveling for work" tick. Read More Here - How to book a hotel in Crimea on Booking.com despite the sanctions.
Weather and seasons in Mezhvodnoye, when is it better to go
Since Mezhvodnoye is a beach resort, it is worth going on vacation here only in summer, late spring or early autumn, but in winter there will be absolutely nothing to do here.
The beginning of the tourist season starts at the end of May, but in fact it is better to come to rest in the high season after mid-June and through August inclusive. The fact is that until mid-June, the weather can present very unpleasant surprises, and besides, the infrastructure of the resort is not yet ready, everything is closed and the beaches are not ready. For example, in early June 2021, there were continuous rains, and the temperature did not rise above 15 degrees Celsius. In some years, there is good weather, but it's like luck.
If it was not possible to get into the high tourist season, then you can come to rest in the velvet season in September and even in the first days of October. At this time, the weather can also present unpleasant surprises in the form of rain or temporary cooling, but in general it happens less often than at the beginning of the season.

By car
After entering the peninsula on the Kerch Bridge by car you can get to Mezhvodnoye in two ways:
Through Simferopol and Yevpatoria. On this route there is an excellent road to Mezhvodny itself.
- Through Jankoy. An alternative route that will be interesting if you really want to visit Dzhankoy, or you are just interested in little-known routes. But the road after Jankoy is of very poor quality.
In Mezhvodny there is no gas station, and therefore it is better to refuel to a full tank in Yevpatoria or the Black Sea. There are no difficulties with parking in the resort itself, there is plenty of space. In the center there is a pedestrian zone prohibited for traffic, and near the central beach there is a paid parking for 50 rubles/day.
Attractions in Mezhvodnoye, what to see and do
Directly in Mezhvodny and its immediate vicinity there are almost no attractions, but this does not mean that during the rest you will have to die of boredom. In fact, in this part of the Crimea there is something to see, just for this you have to ride a little during the day. So, you can go to Olenevka to Cape Tarkhankut and to the Tarkhankut Lighthouse (45 kilometers), visit Yevpatoria and its sights (70 kilometers). Well, the nearest place where you can find historical and cultural attractions is located just 15 kilometers away, and this is the village of Chernomorskoye, where the historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve "Kalos Limen" is located. Directly next to Mezhvodny there are remains of the ancient settlement "Panskoye" and several salt lakes with therapeutic mud.
It is best to get acquainted with the mentioned sights on personal or rented transport. It is also possible to buy excursions, but their variety and prices will not greatly please seasoned tourists. You can also go to Evpatoria or the Black Sea by bus yourself, and return the same day. But to visit Cape Tarkhankut by bus will not work.
The main entertainment for which this resort is so famous is kitesurfing. Anyone can jump on the waves with a kite, however, for this you will have to take a training course and rent equipment. To the right of the main beach there are several children's attractions, and, imagine, even a ferris wheel. On the shore for children there are inflatable slides and trampolines, you can ride a banana or rent a jet ski, catamaran, SUP-surfboard.
And now a little more about the sights and entertainment in Mezhvodny and the surrounding area:

Settlement "Panskoye"
Here are the ruins you can see in the settlement "Panskoe" in Mezhvodnoye The northwestern coast of Crimea is rich in the ruins of ancient settlements and mounds dating back several centuries BC. Most of them were investigated by Soviet archaeologists and subsequently preserved, and "Panskoye" is just one of these preserved and covered with Earth. Objectively speaking, you will not see anything particularly exciting here, but if you have a lot of free time and have become completely bored, you can drive here or even walk from the center of Mezhvodny on foot. Learn more the nickname "Panskoe" here.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock.
💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: free.
🚶 How to get there: the settlement "Panskoye" is located 7 kilometers from the center of Mezhvodnoye (settlement "Panskoye" on the map). Getting here is best by car, but you can walk, which will take about two hours in one direction. To get there by car, it is better to use the navigator to the point indicated on the map, since there are no signs. The last two kilometers will have to go on a clay dirt road, so in wet weather we do not recommend going, otherwise you will get stuck in the mud.
When you reach the specified point, you will have to go out and continue walking right across the field in search of ruins on foot. There are quite a lot of ruins and mounds here. They are located on an area of several hectares and at a considerable distance from each other. For a walk, it is better to wear comfortable sports shoes and sweatpants, because you will have to walk on high grass. And be prepared for a myriad of mosquitoes that literally stick from head to toe.

Lakes with therapeutic mud
Therapeutic mud Near Mezhvodny there are several lakes, at the bottom of which there is a therapeutic cosmetic mud. The most popular and easily visited is the Salt Lake Dzharylgach, which can be reached even on foot. There is no infrastructure for taking mud baths here, you will have to do everything yourself: get the dirt from the bottom, smear it, and wash it off in a few minutes. Usually they wait for the dirt to dry and turn into a crust, after which it is washed off. A layer of black therapeutic mud lies under a layer of silt, and to get to it, you have to dig a little, for which smart tourists use just a cut plastic bottle. Just do not leave plastic behind on the shore, but take it to the village and throw it in the trash.
In general, self-treatment with mud is not recommended by specialists, and therefore it is necessary to adhere to the following rules during the first procedures: do not apply dirt on the whole body, no more than 10% of the surface is recommended; the session should last no more than 10 minutes and no more than three times a day; watch your health and Learn more about medicinal mud in Crimea and how to use it here.
🕐 Working hours: around the clock.
