What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting

Ancient settlement or archaeological park "Kalos Limen" is the main and most famous historical and archaeological site in the Chernomorskoe region, and indeed in the northwestern part of the peninsula. These are the ruins of an ancient Greek city, founded approximately from IV BC.E. during its heyday, the city was a fortress with an area of about 4 hectares with a very favorable geographical and economic position, and therefore was constantly raided. It existed until the First Century AD, when it was invaded by the nomadic tribes of the Sarmatians, the inhabitants of the northern steppes and completely destroyed.

On some tourist maps, you can see several excavation sites at the location of the Archaeological Park "Kalos Limen", which, of course, confuses tourists a little. In fact, the settlement is one complex with a territory on which there are several excavation sites, and they are all visited by one ticket. The entrance to the complex is located next to the shore from the main beach, and the entire territory is surrounded by a fence. You can pay for the entrance, and then walk around the territory along the paths and inspect the ruins yourself. But it is much more interesting and informative to first visit the local museum of local lore, and then go here and get acquainted with the Archaeological Park with excursion service, which is offered when buying tickets for an additional fee. During the tour, they will tell in detail about the most interesting ruins, the structure and life of the city, show the places of existing archaeological excavations.

Well, if you really want to visit "Kalos Limen", but you do not have money, then you can visit it for free. Of course, we do not recommend doing this, since the entrance fee is not so high, but there is such an opportunity. In addition, in the low season, the settlement is closed, and then it can be visited only in this way: if you go around the settlement along the fence, then from the north side along the shore you can go through a partially broken fence or go around it on stones in the water.
