Old Gagra Embankment is a favorite vacation spot for residents and guests of the city, especially those who rest in this area of the resort. Its length is 2 kilometers, it stretches along the coast and the Seaside Park, paved with new paving slabs. It has been updated not so long ago and looks very well-groomed, which, to be honest, is a rarity for Abkhazia. It will be pleasant to walk along it both in the afternoon and in the evening, when it is beautifully illuminated by lanterns.
The central part of the promenade along its entire length is decorated with a flowerbed with palm trees and ornamental shrubs. On one side of the embankment there is a large Seaside park with attractions, places for recreation, cafes, fountains and sculptures. There is a sale of fast food and drinks, excursions are sold. On the other side there is access to the sea to the beach. There are benches for recreation.
Interesting places and sights on the Old Gagra embankment
The embankment in Old Gagra is very well located relative to the main attractions of the resort of Gagra. Nearby is the fortress of Abaata with the church of St. Hypatius and historical museum, it is easy to walk from it to Prince of Oldenburg Castle, take a look and stroll through To the Seaside Park, have a snack at Gagripsh restaurant, as well as walk along the pier and even go fishing from it. The promenade offers a beautiful view of the sea. The road passes through a snow–white colonnade - the most recognizable by tourists and a landmark place in Gagra.
What are the beaches near the Old Gagra embankment
A pebble-sandy beach stretches along the Old Gagra embankment. If we compare it with the beach in Novaya Gagra, then it is much less crowded. But at the same time it is equipped only in some places, there is little beach infrastructure, mostly it is almost wild. Sun beds, umbrellas, canopies and changing rooms are organized near cafes that offer fast food and drinks to vacationers. The coastal line of the beach is wide, spacious and not disfigured by concrete breakwaters and pieces of concrete structures, as in Novaya Gagra. The bottom is relatively flat, the water is clean, transparent. During the season, you can find a standard set of entertainment: catamarans, children's trampolines, sap surf boards. We did not see a lifeguard tower on the beach, so be careful and keep a close eye on the children while swimming.
An important moment! In Abkhazia, a walk in a swimsuit outside the beaches is an offense, for which a fine of up to 6 thousand rubles is provided. This applies, among other things, to walking along the embankment, and warning signs are installed here for a reason.

🚶 How to get there
The embankment is located in the center of Staraya Gagra next to the Seaside Park, and stretches for two kilometers along the coast (embankment on the map). To get here from the center of the resort (New Gagra), and indeed from any other resort in Abkhazia, you can take buses and routes that run along the main road of the country Sukhumi highway, you can get off at the colonnade or the fortress of Abaata. Travel from the center of Gagra will cost from 25 rubles (but they try to charge 50 rubles from tourists), from other districts and resorts from 200 rubles.
