- For beach lovers with flexible plans. Also possible, but with caveats. The south (Phu Quoc, Mui Ne, Vung Tau) is still warm in October, the sea is +28…+29 °C. There is rain, but it is usually short: an hour or an hour and a half in the afternoon. If you do not mind swimming in the morning and walking in the evening, it will all work out.
- For those going for the classic "lie on the sand and not think about anything". October is not the most reliable option. Central Vietnam is stormy, and in the south the weather can turn bad for 2–3 days in a row. If your vacation is short and you want guarantees, it is better to choose another time.
- For families with small children. Be more careful. Humidity is high, mosquitoes are active, and in the center there is a risk of typhoons. But if you choose Phu Quoc and a hotel with a pool and kids' facilities, the trip will be comfortable.
If you dream of a beach holiday where you do not have to think about the weather forecast at all, October is not for you. It is better to move the trip to November or later.
Weather in Vietnam in October
Vietnam stretches from north to south for more than 1,500 kilometers. That is why in October the weather in different parts of the country differs radically. In the north it is already cool in the mornings, in the center it is stormy, and in the south it is still tropical summer.
Here is what happens in October in different regions:
- North (Hanoi, Sapa, Halong, Cat Ba): +20…+28 °C during the day, humidity drops, rain is rare. In the mountains of Sapa it can be +10…+15 °C at night, so bring a warm sweater.
- Center (Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh): +27…+30 °C, high humidity, frequent rain. In Da Nang and Hoi An it is the peak of typhoon season. In Nha Trang it is a bit easier, but still damp. Cam Ranh is in the same climate zone as Nha Trang, so the weather there is similar.

- On Phu Quoc. Visit a pearl farm, the fish sauce museum, a pepper tasting. You can go to the market or a water park.
- In Mui Ne. Cafes, massage, a kite school (swimming is uncomfortable in the wind anyway), windsurfing centers.
- In the north. Rain in October is rare here, but if you get caught, check out the Hanoi Opera House, museums; in Sapa – sit in a cafe with a view of the mountains.

The main plus of Nha Trang in October is low prices. Hotels get 30–50% cheaper compared to high season. You can find a decent hotel with a pool for 1,500,000 dong (57.64 USD) per night, or even cheaper.
If you go to Nha Trang in October, choose a hotel with a pool and not far from the center. Then even on a rainy day you will have something to do. Cam Ranh is in the same climate zone, so the weather there is similar – the same rain and the same water temperature.
In the second half of October, the risk of typhoons in Nha Trang increases. If the weather forecast is worrying, it is better to move the trip to the south or north of the country.
Da Nang and Hoi An in October
Da Nang and Hoi An in October are perhaps the worst choice for a beach holiday in all of Vietnam. Central Vietnam at this time is at the mercy of typhoons and prolonged rain. There are exceptions, and sometimes sunny days happen. But you should not count on stable weather. In October 2025, Typhoon Fengshen hit the coast of Da Nang, causing the evacuation of more than 60,000 people and flight cancellations. Precipitation in some places reached 500–700 mm. The sea is often rough, and swimming can be dangerous. Tours to Hoi An, Hue, and the Marble Mountains are often canceled due to bad weather.
If you do end up in Da Nang in October, here is what you can do:
- Visit museums and cafes in the city.
- Take a trip to Hoi An – the old town is beautiful even in the rain, and the tailor shops work all year round.
- Try the local cuisine – central Vietnam has some of the best food in the country.
- Go to hot springs or a spa center.
Hotel prices in October in Da Nang and Hoi An are very low. But the savings are not worth it if you are going for sea and sun.
If your flight to Vietnam arrives in Da Nang in October, it is better to plan a move to the south or north right away. Do not stay in the center hoping for better weather.
Phu Quoc in October
Phu Quoc in October is a compromise option. The rainy season here is not over yet, but the rain is no longer as heavy as in August or September. It usually rains in the afternoon, while mornings and evenings are dry. The first half of the month can still be damp, but in the second half of October the weather usually becomes more stable.
Air temperature +29…+31 °C, water +28…+29 °C. The sea is warm, swimming is comfortable. Sometimes there are waves, but nothing critical.
The main advantage of Phu Quoc in October is low prices. Hotels that cost 3,000,000 dong (115 USD) in high season can cost half as much in October. Airfare also gets cheaper.
On the downside: humidity is high, mosquitoes are active. Bring repellents. And be prepared for the fact that one or two days out of the week may be completely rainy.
Phu Quoc is one of the best options for a beach holiday in October. Not perfect, but good.
Phan Thiet and Mui Ne in October
Mui Ne and Phan Thiet in October are where the kitesurfing season begins. There is a lot of wind at this time of year: average speed is about 19 km/h. It creates waves. If you love active water sports, this is the place for you.
Weather in October: +29…+31 °C, water +28 °C. There is rain, but it is short. The wind is strong, which creates waves. For lying on the beach with a book this is not ideal, but for kitesurfing and windsurfing it is great.
Prices in Mui Ne in October are low. There are many hotels and restaurants with Russian menus. If you are going for a budget holiday and are not afraid of wind, this is a good option.
As for attractions: the Red Dunes, the White Dunes, the Fairy Stream. In October they are less crowded than in high season.
Northern Vietnam: Hanoi, Sapa, Halong
