Ho Chi Minh City is the main air and land gateway to the resort island of Phu Quoc, not counting the airport on Phu Quoc itself. If for some reason you do not want or cannot fly directly to Phu Quoc, then getting through Ho Chi Minh City is the best option.
The choice of travel method will determine whether you will spend only an hour or a whole day on the road. In this guide, we will analyze in detail all the options, from the fastest to the most budget, so that you can choose the best route for your trip.
Quick response: For 99% of tourists, the best way to get from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc is flight by plane. It is fast, inexpensive (with early booking and without luggage) and comfortable. The bus+ ferry route is worth considering only if you have a lot of time left and you want to see the life of the Mekong Delta.
✈ Aircraft – fast, comfortable, optimal
This is the most popular and recommended way. A dozen flights of local airlines are operated daily between Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and Phu Quoc (PQC).
- ⏲ Travel time: ~1 hour.
- 💵 The cost of the flight: from 700 000 – 1 200 000 One-way VND / from 26.61 USD
- Where to buy tickets: it is impossible to buy tickets with Russian cards on local a/c websites, so use aggregators Aviasales or Trip.com.
We have detailed guides for both airports:
Flights to Phu Quoc are operated from Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN). Please note that a new T3 terminal has been opened at Ho Chi Minh City Airport in 2025, and now domestic flights can depart from both the old T1 terminal and the new T3. Be sure to check the departure terminal listed on your ticket. The cost of tickets strongly depends on the season and time of booking: the earlier you buy a ticket, the cheaper it will cost you.
If you are flying to Phu Quoc from Russia or other countries, it is often more profitable to buy a separate ticket to Ho Chi Minh City and a separate domestic ticket to Phu Quoc. For reliability and comfort with such a flight scheme, it is recommended to include an overnight stay in Ho Chi Minh City in the itinerary in order to catch your flight to the island without stress.

How to get from Phu Quoc Airport to the hotel
There are several convenient ways to get to your hotel from Phu Quoc Airport.
- 🚖 Taxi (Grab): The most convenient way. Ordering through the Grab app fixes the cost. A trip to Long Beach will cost from 100 000 – 150 000 VND.
- 🚌 Free bus VinBus: A great option, but not suitable for everyone, as it will not take you to the door of the hotel and does not go to all resorts. Routes No. 17 and No. 19 follow from the airport along the main beach of Long Beach and the main resort areas. Timetables and route maps for official website.
- 🛵 Rent a motorcycle: If you are a confident driver, you can rent a bike right at the airport (from 120,000 VND / day) and leave on it.

🚌⛵ Bus + Ferry – budget and educational
This route is suitable if you have a lot of time and want to see the life of the mainland of Vietnam. And as a way to just get from one point to another, it's washed away compared to an airplane. The journey is divided into two stages: first a bus to the port, then a ferry to the island.
Phu Quoc ferries arrive/depart at two main locations:
-
Bai Vong Port (Bai Vong on the map). This is the main port, most passenger ferries come here. From here to the place of rest can be reached by bus number 20. It takes you from the ferry pier to the center of Duong Dong and further to the GrandWorld complex. It does not go through the tourist area and Long Beach, but in Duong Dong you can take a taxi or No. 17 or No. 19. Here is the route on the map, there is also a schedule
A taxi ride from here will cost from 150,000 VND (rate temporary unavailable USD). It's better to call through the Grab app, it's cheaper that way. If there is no mobile Internet, then you can find taxi drivers here in the parking lot, but they ask for a little more expensive than through Grab or by the meter, so ask them for a ride on the meter.
And finally, right there there is a motorcycle rental for 150,000 VND, you can rent and drive to the hotel. True, the price is a little too high, you need to bargain at least up to 120 00 VND.
-
Thanh Thoi Port. Located next to Bai Vong, just on the other side within walking distance.
-
Ben Pha Port (Ben Pha on the map). A part of passenger flights and a cargo ferry from Ha Tien come here, on which you can ferry a car or motorcycle.
There are two main routes from Ho Chi Minh City:
-
Through the Rach Gia port

The journey takes 2.5 hours, the cost starts from 315,000 VND(rate temporary unavailable USD). Check the schedule on the carrier's website - https://phuquocexpressboat.com/en/ and 12go.asia.
In turn, there are buses from Ho Chi Minh City to Ryatzye, and from other cities you will also have to transfer via Ho Chi Minh City. There are quite a lot of buses along the route, the cost starts from 230,000 VND (0.87 USD), 6-7 hours on the way. There are also buses of the major carrier Futa Bus Lines, we recommend using them. Tickets and schedule can be viewed on their website https://futabus.vn/.
-
Via the Ha Tien port
There is no point in getting directly from Ho Chi Minh City through the port of Ha Tien. It is suitable only if you want to visit the border town of Tyaudok (Chau Doc) or are traveling from Cambodia.
