The view worth coming to Da Nang for

If you are now scrolling through reviews and calculating a budget, wondering whether it is worth going to Da Nang, let's relieve the tension right away. The short answer is yes, it is, but not for everyone and not always. This is not a universal resort for all occasions, but a very specific offer that is ideal for some and not suitable for others.

We have been to Da Nang several times in recent years, watched it transform from a city with construction sites along the beach into a modern resort, and are ready to honestly and without embellishment break down what is good here and what is not. This article will help you make a decision based not on advertising slogans from armchair copywriters and AI-generated articles, but on facts and real personal experience.

Quick answer for the impatient: Da Nang is an excellent choice for those looking for clean, long beaches (some of the best in the country), a comfortable and modern city for walking, a calm atmosphere and a convenient base for trips to Hoi An, Hue and the My Son ruins. It is worth coming here with family, as a couple or alone for relaxation and a measured vacation. But if you need a vibrant nightlife, crowds of Russian-speaking tourists or super-low all-inclusive prices like ten years ago - perhaps this is not your option.

✔ Why go to Da Nang: main advantages

First, the good. It is for these things that Da Nang is loved by those who return here again. In our opinion, here are the key reasons to choose this resort.

1. Stunning, well-maintained and long beaches

This is Da Nang's main trump card. The My Khe beach stretches for kilometers of white sand and is not for nothing included in the lists of the best beaches in the world according to Forbes and Tripadvisor. Over the past years, it has not just been cleaned up - an excellent promenade, palm trees, areas with sun loungers and lifeguards have appeared here. The sea is clean, the entrance is gentle, which is ideal for families with children. And if you want solitude, you can go to Non Nuoc beach or Bac Mi An (China Beach).

And by the way, there is surfing here

2. Perfect base for excursions in Central Vietnam

Da Nang is strategically located. Everything interesting is within half an hour to an hour's drive. You can easily and even independently go for a day to:

  • Hoi An - a fairy-tale old town UNESCO (30-40 minutes by taxi or 1 hour by bus).
  • Hue - the former imperial capital (about 2 hours).
  • My Son ruins - ancient temples of the Champa Empire (about 1.5 hours).
  • Ba Na Mountain to the famous Golden Bridge and amusement park.

Living in modern, comfortable Da Nang and going on excursions is often more convenient and cheaper than staying in Hoi An itself.

You simply cannot visit Da Nang and not see the My Son ruins

3. Comfort and modernity of the city

After chaotic Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang seems like an oasis of calm and order. Here there are wide streets, sidewalks, embankments for walking, modern bridges (like the Dragon Bridge, which "breathes" fire on weekends) and skyscrapers. The city is clean, well-kept and very green. Walking here is a pleasure.

Today Da Nang is not at all as dull as it was 10 years ago
There are wide sidewalks free for walking here

4. Calm, relaxed atmosphere

Da Nang does not suffer from the disease of mass tourism to the extent that, for example, Nha Trang or Thailand does. There are no intrusive vendors, wild crowds or an atmosphere of "everything for Russians". The main tourists are Vietnamese, Koreans, Chinese. This creates a more authentic and calm environment. There is nightlife, but it is not wild, but rather relaxed - beach bars, walks along the embankment.

Da Nang has many pleasant walking areas
But there is also where to have fun, for example in the DownTown Danang park

5. Excellent value for money

Da Nang offers a "upgrade" in comfort for reasonable money. For the same funds as for a modest guesthouse in an overcrowded resort, you can rent a good room in a modern hotel with a pool steps from the sea. Food, transport, entertainment are also very affordable.

Modern, clean and very comfortable city for living

✘ Possible disadvantages of Da Nang (to know in advance)

For the sake of objectivity - not everything is so rosy. Here are some disadvantages you may encounter. For some they will be critical, for others - a trifle.

1. Limited "party" and nightlife

As we have already noted, Da Nang is not about endless parties. Bars close relatively early, there are few discos and they are specific, more oriented towards local tourists. If you are going for club culture, like in Phuket or Pattaya, you will be bored. This is a city for quiet gatherings by the sea with a cocktail, walks along the embankment and night markets.

The main evening pastime in Da Nang is restaurants on the embankment

2. Language barrier and little Russian-speaking infrastructure

Unlike, for example, Nha Trang, in Da Nang there is very little Russian-speaking staff, menus in English are rare, signs are often only in Vietnamese. This adds exoticism, but can be a problem if you don't like explaining with gestures or using a translator. Russian travel agencies, shops "for our own" and familiar entertainment are almost non-existent here.

Signs are rarely duplicated in English, let alone Russian

3. Weather can let you down (especially in the low season)

The best season for beach holidays is from March to August. But from September to December the rainy season begins with strong waves, cloudy weather and the risk of typhoons. The sea can be dangerous for swimming. If you come out of season, there is a risk of spending your vacation not on a sunbed, but in a room or in the rain. For example, in November 2025, a real natural disaster occurred here due to a typhoon.

In low season in Da Nang it can be like this, and this is the middle of the day

4. Not the cheapest option in Vietnam

Yes, Da Nang is more affordable than European resorts, but by Vietnamese standards it is not the most budget option. Prices for hotels on the first line, good restaurants and entertainment are higher here than in less promoted provincial towns. Of course, you can save money, but then you lose some of its advantages - comfort and convenience.

Who should DEFINITELY go to Da Nang: summary table

To make the decision even easier, combine all the pros and cons:

Da Nang: for whom it is ideal, and who should consider other options
You definitely SHOULD go to Da Nang if you... You should THINK ABOUT ANOTHER option if you...
Family with children, looking for a safe beach with a gentle entrance, cleanliness and tranquility. Young people, going for a vibrant nightlife, parties and all-night parties.
A couple or an independent traveler who values comfort, walks, good cafes and aesthetics. Looking for an ultra-budget vacation "everything for pennies" like 10 years ago.
Want to have a convenient base for radial trips to Hoi An, Hue, My Son. Have difficulty with the language barrier and want to hear Russian everywhere.
Appreciate a modern urban environment (sidewalks, embankments, parks) combined with a beach. Going only for diving or snorkeling - there are better islands for that.
Tired of crowds of tourists and looking for a more authentic and calm place in Vietnam than Nha Trang. Planning a trip during the rainy season (September-December) and counting only on the beach.

Personal conclusion: We return to Da Nang with pleasure when we want to combine a quality beach holiday with the comfort of a modern city and the opportunity to easily see the cultural attractions of central Vietnam. This is not a place for extreme sports and cheap revelry, but for a very pleasant, civilized and rich vacation.

What to consider when planning a trip

If after reading you are inclined to go, here are some practical tips from our experience that will make your vacation better:

Choose the right time

Book your trip for the dry season from March to August, ideally April-June. At this time, the sea is calm, there is minimal rain. If you go in winter (December-February), keep in mind that the water may be cool, and in the evenings you will need a sweater.

Choose the right area

Stay in the My Khe beach area - this is the epicenter of tourist infrastructure with cafes, massages and bike rentals. For complete peace, you can choose Bac Mi An beach or a hotel on the Son Tra peninsula. Living in the city center, away from the sea, is less convenient.

Be prepared for transport adventures

Public transport is poorly developed. Your best friends are the Grab app (taxi and bike taxi) and motorbike rental (from 100-150 thousand dong/day). The city is also very walkable, especially along the embankments.

Don't limit yourself to just the beach

Be sure to set aside days for:

  • Marble Mountains - caves, temples and view from above (entrance ~40,000 dong).
  • Son Tra Peninsula - wild monkeys, scenic road and Lady Buddha statue.
  • Evening at the Dragon Bridge on Friday or Saturday at 21:00, when it "breathes" fire and water.

And also go for 1-2 days to Hoi An - this is a must-visit location in the region.

Marble Mountains are one of the reasons to get off the beach

Summary: our opinion about Da Nang

Is it worth going to Da Nang in 2025-2026? Definitely yes, if you are looking for exactly what it offers: one of the best beaches in Vietnam framed by a modern, convenient city, with excellent opportunities for cultural trips and in an atmosphere of calm, authentic vacation.

This is not "Vietnam light" for beginners who need a familiar environment, and not a party mecca. This is a conscious choice of a thoughtful traveler who values comfort, beauty and diversity. We are confident that with the right expectations, Da Nang will not disappoint you.

Personally for us, this is one of the most beloved and convenient cities for vacation in Vietnam. In fact, to be completely honest, we like it here more than in Nha Trang and Mui Ne. The main thing is to choose the right season for the trip so as not to spoil your vacation with the weather.
