Description and is it worth a visit
Stupa or Monument to King Naresuan the Great (King Naresuan Stupa) is located in Mueang Ngai (Mueang Ngai) township Chiang Dao. It is believed that the king visited this place in 1604 before sending troops to Burma, with which countless wars were waged at that time.
King Naresuan was one of the greatest rulers of Thailand, he is especially revered and loved by the Thai people. During his reign, the size and importance of the kingdom reached its peak, for which I attribute to him the title of the savior of the nation. There are many legends about him, many books and films are dedicated to him. And this stupa is one of the symbols of respect and love for the king.
This large snow-white stupa with a height of more than 25 meters is located on the territory of the whole park. Around the stupa you can see a huge number of roosters, which are a symbol of success and wealth in Thailand. But the original reason why roosters are so revered and can be seen in many holy places and temples in Thailand is connected with an entertaining story or legend. At a time when the capital of Ayutthaya was under the rule of Burma, Prince Naresuan was captured by the Burmese. While imprisoned by the enemy, the cock of Naresuan participated in cockfights with the rooster of the Burmese prince, and won. The insulted Burmese prince called Naresuan's rooster a "war slave animal," and this gave Naresuan the determination to fight for the freedom of the Ayutthaya kingdom.
But back to the monument itself and the park. Its territory is quite large, there is a lake and paths for walking, shops and places of rest. There is also a replica of the fortress with a museum inside, everything is visited for free.
We will not say that it is necessary to visit this monument to all tourists while traveling through the province, since it will be more interesting to local travelers as a place of worship. And it is located quite far from other tourist attractions and routes. But if you are passing by, for example, during a motorcycle or road trip from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai on the northern border route through Thaton, then it is quite possible to stop here.
